As much as I hope they get off to a slow start on Saturday, I really do hope Winter has some success with these young kids this season. This could be a real turning point in Canadian soccer. If he succeeds over the next three years, the Canadian quota has to go up significantly. If he fails, this type of aggressive (or normal, if you're Dutch) academy development could be scrapped for a long time.

Agreed.

From page 1, my best guess where players fit for budget and off-budget roster purposes. Things to consider, if more then two roster spots on the budget roster are left vacant the team is penalised against the cap.

Up to two vacant spots on the off-budget roster are worth an additional $35,000.00 each towards the salary cap.

This will only be clear when the union releases the salary figures.

Salary Budget Roster

1. Julian DeGuzman M (Canada)

2. Wayne DeRosario M (Canada)

3. Adrian Cann D (Canada)

4. Nana Attakora D (Canada)

5. Alan Gordon F (USA)

6. Dan Gargan D (USA)

7. Ty Harden D (USA)

8. Jacob Peterson M (USA)

9. Nathan Sturgis D (USA)

10.

11.

12.

13. Millos Kocic G (Serbia)

14. Stefan Frei G (Switzerland)

15. Maicon Santos F (Brazil)

16.

17. Mikael Yourassowsky D (Belgium)

18. Javier Martina F (Netherlands)

19. Nick Soolsma F (Netherlands)

20. Elbekay Bouchiba M (Netherlands)

Off-Budget Roster

21. Gianluca Zavarise M (Canada)

22. Demitrius Omphroy D (USA)

23. Matt Gold M (USA)

24.

25. Doneil Henry D (Canada)

26. Matt Stinson M (Canada)

27. Ashtone Morgan D (Canada)

28. Oscar Cordon M (Canada)

29. Keith Makubuya F (Canada)

30. Joao Plato F (Ecuador)

Injury Reserve

Nicholas Lindsay M (Canada)

Josh Janniere signed by Colorado, since he was part of the TFC Academy, I assume TFC had to waive the "Homegrown" rights that the club would have had.

TFC must be the first team to have former Academy players signed by other teams.

You know we are doing something right when teams are plucking youngsters from our academies... I've never heard of Josh Janniere until this but its good news for Canada

Where did you hear this by the way?

Hopefully TFC can keep Winter for a while and develop a system of play and continue the good work the Academy is doing. Hopefully by developing a good system players will be taught in the academy how to play within the system and graduate into senior team roles. This is great for Canadian soccer and going forward it would be nice to have the best talent from Ontario in a residency program from 13-15 until they graduate to full professionals. Hopefully as well Montreal and Vancouver can do the same and and the best young kids can be given the chances to develop.

He's a 92's, played on the Ontario Provincial team before joining TFC. He's a right mid/wing, very fast player, in the highlights of the Milan game in last years Dallas Cup he made the Milan players look like they were running in quicksand. He and Nicholas Lindsay are similar players, but Lindsay was deemed to be the better prospect.

^ He is shorter and stockier than Lindsay, but quite lively the few times I have seen him when TFC comes to Niagara to play Roma Wolves. Always seems to be passed over by both TFC and Canadian NTs. Good luck to him.

Can anyone confirm that he's actually been signed by Colorado? I've been scouring the 'net and the BigSoccer signings thread is the only place i've seen him listed as being signed.

The Rapids homepage has nothing, the Rapids' beat writers' twitter page says Janniere was brought back to training 4 days ago. He scrimmaged against Air Force in the middle of last week...View from the Couch (Rapids blog) has him listed as a trialist still

Josh Janniere's facebook profile picture is a picture of his locker stall with him wearing #7 and also some Rapids fan(s) on bigsoccer were saying he was signed

Who's the new defender?

Taken from TSN.ca

Despite the clean sheet, Winter is still looking to strengthen at the back and said in his press conference after the match that he is close to signing a new defender, possibly even before the visit of Chivas USA (0-2-0) to BMO Field on Saturday.
