Ireland's manager Vera Pauw gets deeper scrutiny of her 2018 days at the Houston Dash given what was said about Pauw in NWSL's report about abuse.

The Athletic quotes from her former players and staff:

“Day to day, Vera was the worst, most terrible coach I’ve ever had.

“Everybody has their own coaching style, I get it, but it was, in my opinion, abusive and inappropriate.

She definitely berated assistants. She definitely was not tactful in talking about players,” said Staffer A. “We were basically supposed to run all of our ideas or feedback or information through her.”

“She put up England and then she put characteristics: extremely confrontational, extremely arrogant,” said Player B. “She said Americans were extremely selfish and individualistic. She put up South Africa and said ‘very agreeable, a big melting pot so you can’t really describe them’.”

Multiple players said Pauw would frequently check their pulse during training, sometimes without wearing a watch. If Pauw determined a player’s heart rate was too high, she sometimes told the player to get off the field.

Pauw's response:

“I’m Dutch so I am clear in what I want. I think the fact I am maybe different – that is what they have felt. They are not used to women being direct.”

“I’m just dealing with players to get them fitter. Because I’m a female coach, I’m undermined. A male coach who treated their players so well and put himself on the barricades would be praised. I did my job protecting players.”

Pauw admits she would check players’ pulses, sometimes without a watch. “That is what makes me so good,” she added. “I’m so experienced that I know exactly after a few seconds where the heart rate is.

Pauw became Irish manager in September 2019. NWSL report came out December 2022. A day after the report, the FAI released a statement backing Pauw. One day later, Ireland's puublic broadcaster named Pauw Irish manager of the year.

More money problems. Though, it has always been but players pushing back more and media is covering it.

English players not happy their FA won't pay performance bonuses beyond what FIFA has mandated. Since the FIFA mandated payouts are coming from same pool that the FA uses for bonuses, FA says no double dipping. Last year, the players got about C$93k each for winning the Euros.

Article implies England has no CBA. So, countries like the US, players will get paid above and beyond the FIFA payouts. Each English player does get about C$17k to bring family & friends.

English players can't also make physical appearances for their sponsors from 17 June and no social media promos from 5 July.

Canada 2015 was a watershed moment for Colombian women's football as they made the R16. Atletico Hulla became the first Colombian women side to win Copa Libertadores in 2018. In 2022, Colombia made the Copa America final in a 1-0 loss to Brazil.

However, since 2015, active and former players, trainers, and their families have reported cases of sexual harassment, assault, and not being paid. Several players have not been called up to play – retribution for speaking out about the conditions in the national team.

11 of the squad play in Colombia's Liga Femenina, 6 play in Brasileiro Women, 5 in Liga F and 1 in Spain's third tier.

Colombia defeated Panama 2-0 and then tied Panama 1-1 in June. They're set to play China and also Ireland in a friendly on 14 July.

Ireland lost 3-0 to France in a friendly in Dublin. Over 7k in attendance which is the largest home crowd ever to see Ireland women play.

Ireland carried play in first half till the last minute. Then, they give up two goals. Very poor second half, looked lost and offered no threat as France raised a level.

Ireland play Colombia on 14 July in their last tune up.

Likely the deepest dive you'll hear about Group B will be the 1 hour of content from Total Soccer Show.

They couldn't think of Canada's nickname. So, they came up with the Compartmentalizers.

They're not convinced Canada is the 7th best in the world. Underwhelmed by them tactically. Concerned about midfield. Hyped about Grosso.

Aussies could make semis. Nigeria will be bottom of the group but may have smash and grab moments (like Canada men at Qatar). Ireland will score from a header as 35% of their goals in qualifying came from set pieces. One picked Ireland to finish second.

Nigeria's American manager Randy Waldrum has come out swinging recently against the Nigerian Fed (NFF). This time, via On the Whistle podcast, he said a few players have been dismissed for speaking out the against NFF. They only got reinstated if they wrote an apology letter.

He had 14 months of salary unpaid. 3 weeks ago, NFF paid 7 months of salary. Likewise, players per diem and bonus from playing friendlies 2 years ago haven't been paid.

For allowing him to pick the 23 for the World Cup with no input from NFF management, NFF told him he can’t bring his American assistant.

FIFA allows 22 staff to come to the World Cup (flight/accomodation paid) but he has only 11. US has scouts in Europe to watch friendlies. He can only look at video since he has no scouts. Last October, his FIFA contact said US$960k was paid to Federations for World Cup prep and will front the money for business class tickets if a Federation is cash strapped.

Canada paying for Nigeria's expenses for the Celebration Tour is only reason they came to Canada since he wanted to a play a team more in line with Nigeria’s quality to boost their confidence (and likely one of the reasons Canada Soccer's expenses ballooned).

Rumours are now that Waldrum may be fired before they play Canada. And players may boycott Canada match because NFF has cancelled their bonus money payouts.

Billionaire Patrice Motsepe stepped in via his foundation to give US$320k for the 23 players or about 14k/player. This is in addition to FIFA's min payout of $30k/player.

This ended the standoff and players are in Australia.

The South African players' union said that the players had no proper contracts or written agreements stating exactly what they would be paid to play for their country at the World Cup.

Last year, 2005 FIFA World Player of the Year nominee, Portia Modise, said she was paid at times $20/match and lived in a shack.
