The difference was difference makers. Haiti's is an attacker while Chile's is a goalkeeper.

At this thirdish level of women's national team football, Haiti has first to second tier level attackers. Chile has an older squad with negligible pace & power and not enough skill & tactics to compensate for it.

Portugal looks like they're well connected group of players. They move the ball more smoothly than Canada & have some pace on the wings but lack substance in most other aspects. They slot in Group E with USA, Netherlands & Vietnam.

About 9 of Lacasse's teammates will be joining her at the World Cup. It also bodes well for the other 10 Canadians playing in Liga BPI.

Matildas blank Jamaica 3-0 for third win in this window and potting at least 3 goals/match.

Nigeria blank Costa Rica 1-0 to finish the window at 1-2.

ireland played their lone match in this window with a scoreless draw v China in Spain.

So, most worrisome for Canada is that Australia's form is trending up precipitously.

Nigeria's form has dipped slightly with only one goal in 3 matches and 2 losses against non-tier 1 opposition.

Ireland is marginally up as they have now kept a clean sheet for 7 consecutive matches but aside from China, the results were against second tier nations. They also only played 1 friendly in this window. The only tier 1 nation they will have played since qualified and before the World Cup will be France in July. Edit: Ireland will 2 play matches vs USA in April window.

I think that Chile's Coach Jose Letalier will get his walking papers as soon as he returns home.  He keeps piling up defeats and the National team is going nowhere and getting old.  I doubt their world class goalkeeper Christiane Endler will come back.  All these defeats just go to hurt her status.

ESPN's write up of Canada and group foes performance for this recent international window:

Canada
Blighted by off-the-pitch issues with the team embroiled in a public dispute with Canada Soccer, the impact on the players and their performances at the SheBelieves Cup have been clear for all to see with those in the squad opening up about the toll the situation has taken on them. Where the team will be at come July and what type of headspace the players are in remains a larger concern for all involved.

Ireland
Before announcing their double-header against the USA in April, the Republic of Ireland took to Marbella for friendlies. Like a number of other managers, Vera Pauw has been clear that she wants her squad to keep facing high ranked opposition to ready them for the demands of the incoming summer. Although their results in Spain might not have been what fans want to see, it's clear that the squad is still refining their performances.

Nigeria
A World Cup mainstay, you never know quite what you're going to get with Nigeria, but a win and a pair of losses (each by 1-0) at the Revelations Cup suggests they are once again beginning to find their feet ahead of the summer tournament.

Australia
One of the more impressive teams across the world this month, Australia made it three wins from three at the four-nation tournament that they hosted, the Cup of Nations. Not just building up a head of a stream, the Matildas seems to have the pieces finally clicking into place under manager Tony Gustavsson and they are finally starting to dig out the 90-minute performances the coach has been asking them for.

Troubles at other federations are brewing before the World Cup.

Wendy Renard has decided not to play at the World Cup because "she “can no longer support the current system, which is far from the requirements of the highest level. It is a sad day but necessary to preserve my mental health."

Current French manager Corinne Diacre stripped Renard of the captaincy in 2017 after losing to England in the Euro quarters. But Renard got it back in 2021. According to a report in French multimedia outlet RMC Sport, Renard will not play as long as coach Corinne Diacre is in charge.

Then two other stars, Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Kadidiatou Diani, also pulled out. Diani: "Following the press release of our captain Wendie Renard and in view of the recent results and management of the French national team, I announce that I am suspending my international obligations in order to concentrate on my career at club level. I am the first fan of the French team and if the necessary changes are finally made, I will return..."

FFF statement: "The FFF has taken note of the declarations of Renard, Diani and Katoto. Its Executive Committee, which will meet on February 28, will address the issue on that occasion. The FFF would like to remind that no individual is above the Equipe de France institution."

Not exactly surprising but Nigerian camp is swirling in turmoil.

Nigerian fed wants their coach to take a sabbatical from Pitt to focus only on the World Cup. Waldrum also has had disputes with his locally-based assistants.

Division has occurred between players who support the captain Ebi and Oshoala who lost the captaincy battle and withdrew days before the last international window.

Waldrum is also under attack for losing 7 straight till the recent Costa Rican win. But he is saying Nigeria is behind other CAF countries in terms of investment. Waldrum's tactics, his player selection, and playing players out of position have been picked apart time and again.

FIFA says World Cup prize money will total US$110 million, up from US$30 million for the 24 nation 2019 tournament. And 10x higher than 2015.

US$31 million will be allocated for prep or US$969k per team. US$11 million will be used to comp clubs for player usage. The total of US$42 million is up from the US$20 million allocated in 2019.

I haven't yet seen a further breakdown in terms of qualifying, R16, quarterts etc.. prize monies. But it has been speculated US$10 million will go to the winner, up from US$4 million in 2019.

Infantino raised some good points:

- ( women's)football would remain on this pathway until broadcasters offered what he deemed more reasonable amounts for the tournament’s media rights

- challenged public broadcasters “funded by taxpayers’ money” to increase their bids for the Women’s World Cup as he said some had offered less than 1% of the amount they committed to the men’s competition

- OK, their viewing figures are 20% less, so offer us 20% less, or even 50% less,” he said. But these same broadcasters then criticise us for not guaranteeing equal prize money — how can we do it when they offer so little?

And the Visit Saudi sponsorship has been dropped for the women's World Cup. Infantino said it was a case of “double standards” to criticise FIFA, a global organisation of 211 equal countries — for considering a sponsorship deal with Saudi Arabia when Australia’s US$1.5 billion trade with the Gulf state “doesn’t appear to be a problem”.

https://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/worldcup/fifa-women-world-cup-prize-money-1.6780549

FIFA has a 3 step plan for women's football. Step 1 is equal conditions & services at the World Cup which will be achieved as of 2023 World Cup.

Step 2 is the significant increase in prize money. Infantino also specified that it should be allocated in part to federations for investment in youth soccer, and in part directly to players.

Step 3 is to sell Women's World Cup sponsorship and broadcast rights separately. Its goal, Infantino said, is "to be able to have equality in payments for the 2026 men's and 27 women's World Cups." It will be most difficult to achieve as broadcasters haven't ponied up & the women have vetoed one of the first sponsors to step up.

Canada remains #6 in the rankings. Matildas move up 2 to #10 as Korea DPR finally drops out completely after not playing for 4 years. Ireland is at #22 and Nigeria is #42.

Panama was biggest mover, up 5 to #52. Cabo Verde (#133) & Saudi Arabia (#171) are new entrants which brings the rankings list to 188 countries.

The worst team in the world is Mauritius. Worst Concacaf team is #186 Turks & Caicos.

As with the men, Nike wins the 2023 Kit World Cup. But it is one less than they had in 2019 even with expanded field. Low Puma presence is filled by smaller shops.

Nike: 13; adidas: 10; Puma: 2; Castore/Hummel/Saeta/Grand Sport/Reebok/KoPa/Le Coq Sportif: 1

In 2019, Nike's USA women's kit was the best selling jersey ever over a year on nike.com for both men and women. The 1995 World Cup was the first time a women's team (USA) didn't wear the same kit as the men.

Canada group stage opponent Ireland lost 2-0 to the USA in Austin. Ireland held its own in the first half but then faded. Ireland opted for a low block, physical style of play.

Swanson seems to have suffered a serious knee injury - likely out for the World Cup.

Only Canada group stage opponent to win their first friendly of this window was Nigeria 2-1 over Haiti in Side, Turkiye.

Okoronkwo & Oshoala staked Nigeria to a 2-0 lead. Dumonay potted one at the 77th minute. Haiti didn't appear to be in it for most of the match but had 3 good chances to tie it after they scored.
