I know this is being discussed in the old Janine Beckie thread but I think this deserves its own topic.  That's pretty bloody awesome for her, moving from the dumpster fire that is Sky Blue to one of the best football organisations in the world!  Now I have to buy a Man City Jersey, and that kinda hurts...

The NWSL website has a short article with a letter from Beckie explaining her decision.  She says it was about the opportunity to play in Europe, and that she has no beef with Sky Blue.  I think it was a letter that had to be written, since her move was adding gasoline to the fire around her old team.

I've noticed that Beckie shies away from the physical side of the game, avoiding heavy contact and collisions in play.  That can be a problem within the US style of play, and maybe she was falling out of favour with coaches over that.  Perhaps she will be much better suited to the European style, which doesn't emphasize physical play as much.

When you look at the highlight video  of the match, it does look  like Janine Beckie scored the second goal for Manchester  City women  ( 3.28 minute ) and it was announced  to the Academy Stadium as a Janine Beckie goal .  But officially, the second goal is listed as an  own goal for a Leicester City woman player.

It's a shame the FA import rules don't allow more Canadian women to follow the same path.

Thanks to our simplistic approach to the management of the women's game, the UK are literally leaving us in the dust. They have at least six divisions in England alone better than anything we have.

And speaking of MCFC, quite impressive to see Steph Houghton in the spot with Bale, Lingard and Alli.

That's a great commercial. Thanks for sharing!

Correction. This past Wednesday. There was another thread that mentioned her 4 goal game earlier in the week, so I was surprised to read your post thinking it happened twice in one week!

You are right, apologies. Didn't see the other thread. Hopefully she carries this confidence into France next summer.

It was a cup game against a Tier2 opponent while the team rested their better attackers. Beckie got her first start of the year and hugely made the best of it and was player of the game.

With the attackers MC has the difficult part is getting playing time and just dressing on game day.  Tough for anyone to find minutes attacking with Nadia Nadim, Tessa Wullaert, Jill Scott, Nikita Parris, Caroline Weir, and now Pauline Bremer returning after a broken leg a year ago. And then you have to fight other young players like Georgia Stamway who at 19 just got a couple England senior caps (and lost the golden boot on assists in the U20 this summer).

She has thin minutes with Man City but it's a much better place to be for a young player with ambition. Gutsy move to put yourself in that position.

...
First, England's Parris flicked a header on to the bar from a set-piece, before Caroline Weir angled a low shot narrowly wide and then Canadian Beckie - on as a substitues - fired a fierce effort on to the angle of post and crossbar.

...
Nikita Parris and Beckie hit the bar in the second period of normal time

...
Janine Beckie stepped up to despatch the winning strike, having earlier struck the crossbar twice in normal time, in yet another closely-fought contest against the Gunners.

...
Miedema sent Bardsley scrambling in injury time with a sweetly-struck half-volley, before Beckie unleashed a rocket which once again struck the woodwork and ricocheted clear in a thrilling end to the 90 minutes.

...
Lauren Hemp then went close twice from two excellent Bonner and Stanway crosses, and Beckie tried her luck again with a long-range strike, which skimmed the roof of the net.

...
Via Manchester City’s Janine Beckie, there was at least a first in this final to stunt the general sense of deja vu.

...
83 min: What a save from Van Veenendaal! Beckie played a square pass from the left to Weir, who took it beautifully on the run and surged into the area. Then she drilled a fierce left-footed shot that hit the chest of the outrushing keeper and flashed just wide of the far post. A goalkick was given, but that was definitely a save from Van Veenendaal.

...
90+3 min: Beckie hits the bar for City! That was a brilliant effort, a rising drive from a very tight angle on the left side of the box. It beat Van Veenendaal at the near post and clattered off the bar. On reflection, I think Van Veendendaal waved that past, thinking it was going into the side netting.

...
Skipper Houghton then converted – as did Dominique Bloodwoorth, leaving Beckie with the chance to clinch the tie – and she did so with aplomb.

She just scored for Man City vs. Barcelona in the WCL quarter finals, m. 20. They are trying to come back from a 3-0 first leg.

I will have to watch the repeat later, working still.

She scored on a goalmouth scramble first half. Second half she was playing left wing, and quite well. Then with 15 left they subbed out Bronze (who was error-prone both legs), and Janine played left back in her spot. And did very well, both defensively and going forward, had a decent shot at goal even.

2-1 Man City, Barça goes through to semis on the 3-0 home result.

Caught parts of the game, goalmouth scramble is a good description, commentators said she played very well today. She picked a great day for a good performance, that should help her moving forward.

Barcelona add an away goal and coast through easily on aggregate. They had so many chances to add to it too, Oshoala must have had a handful on her own. Their goal was Hansen's signature drive to the edge of the six and cut it back, how many times have I seen that now.

Man City with a good account of themselves today but too many mistakes over the two legs to succeed at this level. Could have been a great contest if they cleaned those up.

Barcelona well-deserved to progress to the semi's for the third year in a row and I thought they looked kinda bored and uninspired at times today. For all their chances they didn't seem pedal to the metal. Looked more like they were just taking what Man City offered them and waiting for the whistle.

And she's back at it, involved in two of City's goals in their 3-0 win today:

"Five minutes before the end of the half City doubled their lead. A wonderfully-weighted through ball from Mewis found Janine Beckie and the Canadian, who may have been marginally offside, slotted past Spencer. A brief spell of Spurs pressure in the second half, orchestrated by the Australian Alanna Kennedy, would be crushed by City’s third as Kelly, at the back post, poked Beckie’s floated cross towards an onrushing Weir to prod in."
