Not good news for the NASL as it probably means they will be needing another expansion team just to stand still.

An MLS Miami franchise if it ever happens (which is still doubtful) is years away.

NASL's Miami FC have the market to themselves for a few years yet at least, by that time the league may be at 16 clubs or more so wouldn't be as harmful to the NASL as if it happened in 2018 or 2019 which it won't.

Riccardo Silva decided to put an expansion team in Miami when the Beckham franchise was already announced. So its not like its a surprise to him.

Michael Collins Named President and General Manager of Orange County's NASL Club

The new professional soccer club in Orange County, which was introduced on May 10 as a member of the NASL, has made its first key hire. Michael Collins, a former professional player, will serve as the club’s president and general manager.

Collins will be working closely with ownership to oversee the club’s overall operation. He has already started working on the club’s official summer launch, including engaging candidates to fill open positions in the front office and technical staff. The club has signed a letter of intent to play its home games at California State University, Fullerton’s Titan Stadium.

“I look at the NASL as the starting point for the professional game in our country, and I think the league, in its modern form, is the future of our game as well. The NASL is the best environment for players to develop their careers, and helping them achieve this will be central to our club’s activities. It’s rewarding to help players grow and watch their careers flourish.”

San Diego has been the biggest rumor. Might be the team that will be announced in the next 1-2 weeks

Plus with the San Diego MLS bid having stadium problems, the city is looking a much safer bet for NASL.

NASL aiming for teams in Chicago and Atlanta should serve as an example to the CPL who are currently avoiding the "Big 3".

Or should CPL not aiming for teams in the Big 3 serve as an example to the NASL aiming for teams in Chicago and Atlanta?

Right!!! I dont think the CPL should be following the NASL as a role model on practically anything. They have run their league into the ground and is struggling to simply stave off extinction.

I don't think Atlanta NASL will happen. Atlanta was apparently turned down by the NASL recently and I see the NASL staying out of MLS markets going forward (except for the ones they're in, LA and NY and possibly Chicago) as part of they're new thinking in rebuilding the league, and rightly so.

Rocco Commisso said on the inverted triangle podcast that a couple of teams could be announced in the next couple of weeks and they are in talks with another. Have to solve the Jacksonville ownership situation too

I heard him say one team in the next couple of weeks and another further out at a later date. First one will be San Diego.

Another interesting thing he alluded to was something in the mix happening in a different way to add clubs which he said he couldn't talk about - Clubs moving up perhaps from a lower league like NPSL's Detroit City FC maybe?

Detroit City has been thinking of moving to a professional league but they said in order to do they they would need a big investments and new investors. Im thinking if they were to jump it may to be one of the new division 3 leagues. NASL would be a massive leap.

...who are probably using it as a way to get a green card? Beyond that slightly bizarre angle that may not mean much if most of the money is coming from the local investors (as seems likely if the D2 sanctioning standard on an owner having a net worth of $20 million is going to be satisfied), this is obviously excellent news for the NASL and means they have a very good chance now of having a 2018 season.

I'm glad they're likely to stick around. Even if CPL is active, the NASL will provide a decent alternative for Canadians even if just for the Spring Season.

Curious how involved Hazard is, he's rich enough to satisfy the $20m needed to be a lead but I can't see him being all in on this.

A Hamilton team is basically in TFC's wider metro area, just as a Fraser valley one would be in Vancouver's, so I am not sure that's really accurate, I think in both cases cited with the NASL they plan to cater to a different part of the metro area from the MLS team, in a similar way to the new Orange County team in an LA context.

With NASL having announced 2 expansion clubs for 2018(California United FC & San Diego NASL) & a new owner for Jax last week rumours are that one and possibly 2 more may be added still for 2018. Midfield Press looks at the contenders :

NASL, NISA & USL Expansion News & Rumors Tracker – July 2017 Edition

The Jacksonville Armada are no longer a league owned team. With Robert Palmer of RP Industries announced as the new owner of the Jacksonville Armada, the North Florida franchise has a future and the North American Soccer League front office checked off one of its major goals for the season.

At the press conference unveiling Palmer, NASL interim commissioner Rishi Sehgal responded to Jacksonville reporter Stuart Webber’s question about adding more teams for 2018 by saying, “Potentially. Some things have to come together, and then we’ll see.  There could be some exciting interest for 2018 that is still there that is and that’s still an opportunity.  There’s plenty of time to still launch the club in the right way.  In some cases I’ll leave the word launch with a little bit of vagueness.  There’s also lots of things moving for 2019 and even 2020.”
