Countdown: TFC @ Deportivo Arabe Unido

Recommended Posts

Toronto FC only had two days to forget and move on from their thrashing at the hands of the New York Red Bulls as they travel to Panama to face Arabe Unido in their second group stage match in the CONCACAF Champion’s League. TFC have shown a propensity to bounce back after bad losses and last weekend’s game in New York is a prime example of how quickly the Reds can turn around from a poor performance and do what it takes to win the next game. Traveling to Panama will hopefully be smoother than Honduras, as they will be in tough against a side who are still reeling from their game against Real Salt Lake. Toronto will have to be well prepared for what could be in store for them if they are to come away with points in what is traditionally an unforgiving region for MLS sides.

“It’s an important game against a club that has two players out,” said De Rosario in reference to defenders Nahil Carroll and Andres Santamaria, who were sent off in the loss to Salt Lake and are suspended for Tuesday.

Any trip to Central America promises to be tough. But Tuesday’s on the artificial turf of Estadio Agustin Sanchez promises to be even more so with the home side desperate to avoid dropping a second straight match in the competition and perhaps being more willing to employ questionable tactics.

Salt Lake coach Jason Kreis called Arabe Unido’s tactics of feigning injuries to waste time “a microcosm (of) everything that’s wrong with our game.”

I'm hoping and praying for a good ref for this game because it could get ugly. Arabe Unido have already shown in that first game their character and I'm seriously worried what this match to regress into.

With all this talk of shifty central american soccer would it surprise anyone if Benito Archundia showed up to "ref" tonights game? :D

If he finds out Canadians are playing down there someplace he might show up with a voodoo doll and some pins.

Whats frustrating about this game is how poor this Panamanian side is. Devos kept mentioning how TFC need to sustain some possession but i dont know how you can do that with players like Usanov, Saric and Hscanovic on the pitch. Their first touches are so poor. White's touch isn't great either but he needs to get forward and utilize his pace.

^Gala has absolutely no right foot. It showed on his miss from the right side of goal, and as he tried to clear the ball off the goal line, having to back into the net to use his left.

This is the kind of game where he needs to really show something. He has the chance but his chances are will soon run out.
