dyslexic nam
^^^ that is excellent news (I assumed it was GD as the first tiebreak). That means CA could go to RSL and still need a result.

CanadianSoccerFan
Looks like CONCACAF is now rigging the Champions League quarterfinal draw the way they rig the Gold Cup lol Toluca v Monterrey Cruz Azul v Santos Laguna Real Salt Lake v Columbus Crew Olimpia v Saprissa

Blue and White Army
Interesting that three of the matches will be Yank-only and Mexican-only. Doesn't look very good when there are only Mexican clubs left by the semi-finals.
Tuscan
All I care is that a non-Mexican side wins it this time around. While it's a long-shot, I'll put my faith behind which ever two sides emerge to the semis that aren't Mexican.
Jeremy
Man, bookmakers have no clue about the MLS. On sportsinteraction.com you have RSL winner for 2.87 and the Crew for 2.25 Anyone who followed the offseason knows Columbus lost like 60% of their starting lineup, plus Hesmer and Gruenebaum are injured. Meanwhile, RSL lost only 3 players, 2 of which are insignificant, and the third is Findley. And they brought in Arturo Alvarez, so the loss of Findley means nothing. The home advantage will be near 0 because the weather is sh*t, so very very few people wil be attending (hope I'm wrong on this one though!). Very tempting
Jeremy
Guess RSL needs more help than that to win! It's still a good away result in pretty bad weather.
Jeremy
Quaterfinal return game between Salt Lake and Columbus, stunning strike from Will early in the game, but went off the post! Would have been a wonderful goal.
Jeremy
Time wasting at its finest. Hate that part of CONCACAF. On another note, can somebody tell me why RSL plays the first leg at home and the second away?
Blackdude
Time wasting at its finest. Hate that part of CONCACAF. On another note, can somebody tell me why RSL plays the first leg at home and the second away? Because the random draw put them playing the first at home and the second away. Oranje
Will Johnson went 90 as RSL took the home leg 2-0 against Deportivo Saprissa. Second leg is April 5th in San Jose.
Tuscan
They're going to need an away goal to seal the deal - Saprissa are a completely different side at home than what they were last night. Here's to hoping Willy J finds his finishing form (say that 10 times fast) and bags an away goal for RSL.

Jeremy
http://www.concacaf.com/page/CL/NewsDetail/0,,12813~2325156,00.html Probably contender for the best club name in the region - Walking Boyz
Guest Ed
Another good performance from Real Salt Lake and Will Johnson in particular as they faced adversity in Costa Rica, going down 1-0 in front of an insane home crowd. They largely took the crowd out of it though as they came back to draw 1-1 mid 2nd half. They were ecstatic to hold on despite giving up a late goal. A 2-1 loss on the night but 3-2 aggregate puts them into the next round.
munseahawk
The final will be RSL and Mexico's FC Monterrey. Los Rayados advanced 3-2 over Cruz Azul. 2 of the final 4 teams were the 2 that advanced out of TFC's group.

Jeremy
Great result, all RSL needs is a 0-0 or 1-1 tie, or a win! It's good that the return game is played at home.
Guest Ed
That was an unbelievable game last night. The RSL team just seems to be able to withstand anything thrown at them. Johnson was very good last night and is getting incredible experience that he can use in CONCACAF qualifying.
BearcatSA
^I only watched a little of this match but I have become more and more impressed with what Johnson brings to any team he plays for. I certainly can see why he's a "go to" guy for Hart. Potential MNT skipper, sooner than later?
Keegan
Great ball in by Johnson for the first RSL goal, he is all over the pitch in any highlight package you watch

Johnson was very good last night and is getting incredible experience that he can use in CONCACAF qualifying. He'll likely slide into Beckerman's role for the return leg, with the hippie out on yellow cards. Should be even more experience in the bank for Johnson. Guest Ed
I'm surprised that noone has commented on the Monterrey stadium. Big track and pointy-ball lines showing on the field - in Mexico?
