VENEZUELA WILL PLAY AGAINST CANADA OR HONDURAS IN A FRIENDLY MATCH IN THE CITY OF SAN CRISTOBAL IN THE OPENING OF THE RENEWED STADIUM "PUEBLO NUEVO" BEFORE THE COPA AMERICA 2007. ACCORDING TO THE VENEZUELAN FOOTBALL FEDERATION IT IS STILL NOT CLEAR IF THE VENEZUELAN TEAM WILL FACE CANADA OR HONDURAS.

ACCORDING TO THIS ARTICLE THERE ARE THE NEXT FRIENDLY MATCHES OF VENEZUELA:

MAY 23 : VENEZUELA - SCOTLAND OR BELGIUM

JUN 02 : VENEZUELA - CANADA OR HONDURAS

JUN 17 : VENEZUELA - HUNGARY (CONFIRMED)

JUN 20 : VENEZUELA - PAIS VASCO ( CONFIRMED)

VENEZUELAN SENIOR TEAM HAS NEVER PLAYED AGAINST CANADA . IT WOULD BE AN INTERESTING MATCH BECAUSE THE TWO TEAMS ARE IN SIMILAR LEVEL IN THE INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL.

The CSA site has been poor on timley news releases in the last 2 months. Hopfully they will make an official announcment on this soon. Im curious to know what happened to the Honduras game.

Also, I wish the CSA would arrange another pre GC home friendly for us like they did last time.

It seems that Honduras will be playing Venezuela may 23 so maybe we'll have a game against Honduras prior to the Venezuela game.

a week before the Venezuela game would be good enough

all of our players are either involved in promotion or relegation battles with the MLS and USL1 season just under way player availibility becomes impossible

he will probably working with the core players assembled by Stephen Hart and tune the team for the Gold cup and then after the Gold cup look at the rest of the players in the player pool.

no need to pay the guy a month salary at possibly the tune of over $ 40k to sit around and watch video tape of previous nats game.

the week he is officially the men's coach he should be on the training ground preparing the team for the Gold cup.

"CARACAS, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Venezuela's Football Federation (FVF) president Rafael Esquivel announced Friday Venezuela-Canada friendly June-1 game will be played in Maracaibo instead of San Cristobal as first planned.

The change of city was requested by Canada's football federation to be able to take a flight back home after the game.

Jose Encarnacion Romero stadium in Maracaibo, 706 km west of Caracas, will be the site for Venezuela's penultimate friendly game prior to the Copa America it will host from June 26 to July 15."

I guess they meant going back to Florida for the GC. Hope will have an official announcement from the CSA soon to confirm this but it seems official.

Well that's good to hear. As we are not all that far off the Gold Cup (a month to go) it can't be long before the squad selection is released.

I guess it would be too much to hope for tv coverage of this match, considering that we still don't even know if the Gold Cup will be shown here......

It was mentioned this morning on Soccer Central that all of Canadas</u> Gold Cup matches will be on Sportsnet Digital Channels.

Really? Oooohhh....

Going to make an assumption (I do that), but should we be surprised that SportsNet is making an effort, and maybe an improved one at that, at Canadian football after the CBC has jumped into the market? And jumped into the market with very positive production reviews?

Funny how that girl you were going to dump suddenly looks a whole lot better once you learn you're getting some competition for her attention isn't it?

Either way. Excellent news.

So any Venezuelan supporters who want to throw bags of piss at any of the Canadian players before the match, that's AA flight 723. If for some reason you miss them at the airport, we'll be posting the name and location of their hotel shortly. Make sure you catch them at this point, cause we're not sure we'll be able to give you their home addresses, phone numbers, kids schools, etc. Although we would disclose that too. It is a friendly after all. Let's all get to know one another!

The good news is that we'll be arriving in the middle of the night, so we might be able to save a few bucks by having the boys sleeping at the airport.....

Canada announces international friendly with Venezuela

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – Canada’s National Men’s team will play Venezuela in an international friendly match on 1 June, less than one week before the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The match, to be played at the Estadio José Pachencho Romero in Maracaibo, Venezuela, will be the first international friendly between the two countries.

Canada will use the match as a tune-up for the CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States. Canada plays Costa Rica on 6 June, Guadeloupe on 9 June, and Haiti on 11 June. All three games will be played at the Orange Bowl in Miami, FL. From the tournament's 16-year history (eight finals), Canada were Gold Cup champions in 2000.

Venezuela is the host of this year’s Copa América 2007, which runs 26 June to 15 July. Maracaibo is one of the nine host cities for the tournament. In the May FIFA World Rankings, Venezuela was the eighth-ranked country in CONMEBOL (70th overall). Canada, meanwhile, was the 11th-ranked country in CONCACAF (94th overall).
