Ottawa Fury FC announced on Friday the addition of two Canadian trialists to its roster: midfielder Chris Mannella and defender Monti Mohsen. Both players will make the trip to Charlotte ahead of Fury FC’s season opener against the Independence on Saturday night.

“We are thrilled to add more talented Canadian players to the fold as we get ready for the new season,” said General Manager Julian de Guzman. “Mannella comes with valuable experience and qualities that make him a great asset for the squad, and Monti is a young local player that has shown great promise throughout his trial. We expect great things from both of them this season.”

Monti Mohsen was born and raised in Ottawa and developed his talents with Ottawa St. Anthony SC. Having been training with Fury FC since April 2017, Monti made a name for himself at the last Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg as part of Team Ontario. That’s when the defender scored the lone goal in the men’s gold-medal final, the one that would propel his team to the top of the podium.

He's a '00 (the first ever to sign for Ottawa) and of Iraqi descent according to a promo video he posted on YouTube. He looked surprisingly solid for Ottawa in pre-season, so hopefully he can earn a few minutes this year.

He might have eventually played for St. Anthony's, but in this promo vid he is clearly playing for Gloucester.  I recognize the fields well, having played there in green and gold for years including against St. Anthony's (a long time ago).  Nice to see Ottawa drawing from local talent.  (Any other V's out there ex-Hornets as well?)

Toronto has one too: Afram Gorgees. Born Januari 1st 2000 from Iraq. Probable an academy-loanee.
