Roster hasn't been announced but a rare occurrence for a Usports player to even get an invite. She was also part of Racing Louisville pre-season squad.

TSN should have the rights as part of their FIFA package. But they did let go of Club World Cup to fubotv but should keep this since Canada is in it. Question will be if they'll stream all other matches.

Promised communication transparency hasn't yet reached the women's u20 level yet.

Only news from the CSA from this week's camp was a tweet that it has wrapped up in Markham and a list of players in the camp with some having no pics.

Looks like new invitees were Zara Chavoshi (appears to be from USA - Wake Forest), Megan Chiasson (NS), Chloe Minas (QC) & Sider-Echenberg (Ottawa GGs).

Mexico has let go basically their entire u20 coaching staff. A player filed a complaint that led to an investigation.

Although the FMF found "no proof or evidence of sexual harassment or abuse by any person from the technical staff of the U20 women's national team towards its players," Mexico's federation noted that "sufficient evidence was found of a lack of leadership and inappropriate behaviours that are against the values of teamwork, by members of the technical staff."

Ana Galindo of Mexico u17s will now take over and she can hire back any u20 coaches who didn't have any evidence against them.

Tourney begins tomorrow. Canada arrived last week. If they played closed door friendlies, nothing has been disclosed.

All 3 Canada group stage matches on Thursday, Sunday & Wednesday are at 2200 EDT on TSN.

Four nations will continue being ever-presents by playing in their 10th FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: Brasil, Germany, Nigeria and USA.

Tourney matches are on at 1300, 1600, 1900 & 2200. Weekday matches are largely on TSN's linear channels. Weekend matches are more split between TSN linear and streaming. RDS seems less committed with only 1-2 match showings per day.

Non-Canada group stage matches to watch are:

Spain v Brasil Wednesday @1900

Japan v Netherlands Thursday @1600

USA v Netherlands Sunday @1900

USA v Japan Wednesday Aug 17 @1900

Davidson of Canadian Press reported Canada lost to Japan 2-1 in a pre-tourney friendly. Olivia Smith scored.

There has been one change to the roster from the CONCACAF tournament, with Wake Forest defender Zara Chavoshi replacing Maya Ladhani, who likely prioritised club commitments - she moved to Norway's Avaldanes coached by John Arne Rise this summer. She just signed her first pro contract this spring in Denmark.

We were badly outplayed by Korea.  I was expecting a better organized Canada with some true strikers.

Ex 1 player, this is the same team that played in the qualifiers. They looked disjointed then and looked even more vs Korea. They didn't have a true striker in the qualifiers. Though, one of the missing components across the women's game today is having natural born strikers. Smith has filled the void somewhat but she was non-existent last night.

Tye's set up was too conservative. So, they couldn't control the midfield and not enough players in support when somebody managed to breakthrough in the final third. Korea also won the tactical adjustment game in the second half. Not playing likely your best midfielder in Small was surprising.

Passing is a team weakness but there was easy ones missed in the first half. Goalkeeping is a strength but she fluffed her lines last night.

It was less than 25% probability they would get out of the group. But losing in a match most likely to win, given how good Nigeria looked and the pedigree of France, they're staring into the abyss.

I think most of our players still think the game too slowly at this level.  Any pause with the ball to consider options had them immediately swarmed by multiple Korean players.  That's the biggest difference between international level play and everything below it.  It doesn't matter how good your skills are or how good the team tactics are if you can't act quickly enough when you have the ball.  They are unlikely to advance out of the group stage, but this is exactly the kind of experience they need to see where they must improve individually.

You can probably count the number of French back passes in their own end on one hand.  I don't think I have enough fingers and toes to count the number of times our side did it.  No one is making themselves open up field.  No one is dribbling the ball up.  We just pass to the back and then hoof it over everyone to the French center backs.  So tough to watch.

The ladies resume Mission: Score a Goal.

More realistically, get a single shot on goal.

This team is absolutely dreadful.

  • Every pass is backwards until someone lumps it 40 yards to a French defender.
  • Wingers are completely unable or unwilling to beat their mark one-on-one.
  • Clavijo is completely physically outmatched at this level.
  • 5 defenders back against a single attacker and we’re still giving up shots.
  • Zero fight. So many 50/50 balls where a Canadian pulls out early
  • Poorly conditioned

There is no way a team made primarily of NCAA players should look this bad.
