Australia Vs Honduras WCQ Play In

The Aussies though dominated the match and would have won 2-0 if they finished their most easiest chances. Plus, the pitch was really bad or as the Aussies called it on twitter - a cow paddock - but they managed to still play decent football. And they travelled more than a few hours and experienced some time zone issues that Concacaf teams don't. But since the Aussies experience a wide breadth of conditions playing in Asia, it looked like a walk in the park for them.

Peru looked really dominating against the Kiwis but they faced a parked bus and didn't know how to unlock it. Lots of nil-nil qualifying matches this weekend except in Africa aside from Tunisia.

The Honduran coach is coming out with all these wacky conspiracy theories about espionage, spies, and a mole in the Honduran press.  A drone was flying over their training session at the ANZ Stadium and he was convinced it was a spying mechanism.  The Australian FA went so far as to drive him around the stadium in a buggy to find the culprits were a few kids.  Next press conference he says that was all lies and it was an Australian FA drone........    LOL.

Based off his comments you would think that they're playing Honduras...in Honduras.

Aus 3-1 Hon

Well, i was half-heartedly hoping Honduras would go through to benefit CONCACAF, but there's a lot of silver lining their loss.

For one, they won't be getting another $10M payday from qualifying. That's big. With the corruption in their FA they may burn through the cash from their two previous qualifications sooner than later.

Secondly, this was probably the last time we see Maynor Figueroa and Donis Escober playing for Honduras. Escober was an under-rated GK and his retirement will leave them with little depth and a lot more pressure on Lopez to step up. Figueroa was the best CB, perhaps even player, of this Honduran generation. The drop off at CB now is steep. From Figueroa-Bernardez in 2014 to Palacios/Henry Figueroa/Leveron going forward. Ouch.

In spite of being outplayed they were only undone by their own mistakes.  Conceded a dumb free kick with a resulting own-goal.  Then a dumb handball in the box, and then another penalty at the end.

They really needed a #10 like the old Amado Guevara.  They had no quality in central midfield to distribute to their attackers.

Good point. They could really use Andy Najar, but he's been really unreliable these past 24-30 months with injuries and his flake outs.

Lessons to be learned for sure.  We did what the USA and Australia didn't.. we had a lead in SPS. However it's about managing the game and not beating yourselves. The USA killed themselves off the bat they played much the same way as they did in Trinidad.. stretched, much like our 8-1.

we really do need a sport psychologist to erase the myth of big bad Honduras away. We also could use some help in not having the games played at 2 pm which is a joke.. let's play at 3 am and see rules change.  We have to stop beatings ourselves just look what happens when we believe.. I think we did well last round just had the wheels come off away.

Overall this is a good day for football.  For Honduras to qualify for 3 straight world cups would be an absolute disgrace.  I just wonder what other countries outside of concacaf think - like really this team of dirty hacks from the Honduran league can qualify consistently? There isn't one notable player to the casual football fan.. heck I'd bet more casual fans could name Canadians than Hondurans.  They're good on their turf but when it comes down to playing the game right on an even playing field with a proper pitch and regulations they are trash that no football fan wants to watch.  I'd rather watch Canada and Greece play to a snooze fest than the disgrace Honduras brings to football.  Look no further than their gold cup showing..
