jpg75
On Tuesday, June 29, a top professional team from Chile called Colo Colo will play a reserve team from the Toronto F.C. at University Stadium at Wilfrid Laurier.
Razcle
^ I live right around the corner from University Stadium so I have no issues with it being a reserve team. I wonder who the Reserve team will be because most of the 1st team guys need a run-out due to the world cup break.
BugerKing
Sounding like it will be the TFC academy team playing in the game.

TFC play a game this Saturday and also next Thursday so i wouldn't expect any 1st teamers on the field against Colo-Colo - who will also likely field alot of young players... Razcle
^^ Good call on the lack of 1st teamers. I forgot the season starts back up this Saturday. This should be a good test for the acadamy. Hopefully they rise to the occasion. Tickets are $20 for children and Seniors and $40 for everyone else. That is a little pricey to see the Acadamy team play. Tickets go on sale this Friday http://blogs.canoe.ca/thefull90/general/tfc-academy-to-play-colo-colo/

Colo-colo is an interesting team but far from one of the world's top teams and to pay that much to see them play an academy team is a worse rip off than what they were charging to see Real Madrid practice. In fact, they are not even one of South America's best teams. They have failed to advance out of the 2nd round group stage of the Copa Libertadores the last 3 years. On the other hand, I guess if they are banking on a lot of Chileans in the area wanting to see the team play they might be smart with these ticket prices. If that doesn't happen though and a lot of regular soccer fans take a pass I won't feel sorry for them.
jpg75
Oh ****, i didn't even notice the ticket prices! Dude, that's a pricey propostion to watch the TFC U18's with probably a couple of scrubs against Colo-Colo's B team. Won't even get to see Paredes play since he's at the WC. BTW, one of my former co-workers is a huge Colo-Colo fan. They won the Sudamericana in 2006 with the likes of Alexi Sanchez, Mati Feranadez, Gonzalo Fierro, Arturo Vidal and Humberto Suazo. They've since lost all of those players.
Sam
That's a ridiculous price. You can buy TFC tickets for $25 for games at BMO... featuring the full team in a competitive game
masster
http://blogs.canoe.ca/thefull90/general/tfc-academy-to-play-colo-colo/ What caught my eye about the article is that TFC are doing Edmonton a favour. If the Alberta boys needed help, why didn't they go to the Whitecaps who are a lot closer and have been off for about 10 days?
Lord Bob
The Whitecaps seem to have far more of an aversion to mid-season friendlies than the other three professional clubs.

They pretty much state right out that FC Edmonton has gotten the most interest from people when TFC is discussed. Maybe if TFC owes them one, it'll get them a friendly against the Reds in Edmonton. TheKottonmouthed1555362307
Here's hoping Colo-Colo has some talent TFC can pluck, Preki wants some creativty and goals, Colo-Colo could deliver that for TFC. Colo-Colo if it sends its first team squad, maybe some players can really impress the TFC staff in Waterloo. A few links to some of the players who have some good numbers in South America http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ezequiel_Miralles http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yashir_Pinto http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phillip_Araos http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodrigo_Millar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cristian_Bogado http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esteban_Paredes

jpg75
They actually were Runners Up I'm pretty sure. Wow, you're right! They lost to Pachuca. He told me they had won and i just took his word for it... I wouldn't expect Millar and Paredes to be on the tour, they've been with the NT in South Africa and probably need a break. As for signing some Colo-Colo players, it'd likely have to be on a loan deal. The players you listed would all require transfer fees.
TheKottonmouthed1555362307
Well, I figure bringing in a team like Colo-Colo, seems like a move that would bring players they may be interested in as like others have said they aren't a huge name to draw casual soccer fans, yes it will appeal to the Chileans, but thats about it. I think they must have some sorta of interest in maybe scouting the team. I may be wrong though and its just a friendly that showed up off the radar that they thought could draw some attention. They're just doing FC Edmonton and Mel Kowalchuk a favour. When Edmonton convinced Colo Colo to come up, they had promised them three friendlies. FC Edmonton played them on June 20th losing 4-3. Vitoria of Brazil went down to defeat 2 nil last Saturday. Supposedly a third game with "an Eastern Canada professional team" had fallen through but Edmonton still owed Colo Colo a match. TFC has allowed them to play the Academy. BTW, read this article. I am not feeling good about the future of Edmonton. They seem to be totally unrealistic in terms of their attendance expectations. http://www.edmontonjournal.com/sports/Colo+Colo+dispose+Vitoria/3210556/story.html They got 5.5k at Commonwealth for the Edmonton v Colo Colo match. I consider that decent. The owners was expecting 20k. Lunacy. How deep are the pockets of Tom Faith? Is this the Aviator's all over again? BTW, the Vitoria v Colo Colo match drew less than 1k. FC Edmonton is losing their shirt on this venture. I think I forgot to mention that Colo Colo have been guests of FC Edmonton for two weeks. All costs of this "tour" are being taken care of by FC Edmonton.
TheKottonmouthed1555362307
Oh wow, sucks for FCE for some reason Alberta and soccer don't mix together in my mind. It's Hockey, Football, and Rodeo that can survive in Alberta.

redhat
"Kowaluchuk admits to being disappointed with the turnout at all three games. “It doesn’t shock me but it surprises me. You can pay $25 to see a team of this calibre, one of the best in the world, or you can pay even higher to see a Canadian football game that certainly isn’t the best in the world,” he said." Was he referring to CFL football or Canadian Soccer in general? I think it was the former, but regardless those comments were unfortunate.
ag futbol
It's really sad that someone who is willing to invest money in the game doesn't bother to do his homework as to HOW he should be investing his money. These mistakes are incredibly stupid. The future does not look bright for FCE if they continue to be repeated. $40 to watch an academy team vs. backups? He should count himself lucky anybody showed up.
lazlo_80
It's unfortunate when someone has to take a potshot at the CFL too. Soccer is so often on the other end of these types of pot shots that he should know better.
