    • Just checked...2017-18, Besiktas won their group and were drawn against Bayern in the R16. Atiba went 90 in the first leg, away loss, 5-nil. He played the last 30 in the home leg, another loss, 1-3. In 2000-01 season Radzinski's Anderlecht won their first stage group, but finished 3rd in their second stage group. There was no R16, as the teams progressing from the second group stage advanced to the QFs.
    • Anderlecht made 2nd group stage (final 16) in 2001. Beşiktaş made round of 16 in 2018.
    • I think Atiba played in the R16 a few years ago with Besiktas. Radzinski went deep with Anderlecht, as well, about 20 years ago. Can't think of any others.
    • Who can stop Bayern now? City?  A Canadian winning the Champions League would be amazing! Before Phonzie, who would have come the closest? We've had a few Canadians (CMNT players) play in the group stages; any in the knockout rounds or round of 16?
    • If CPL isn't earning a spot in the final, can you not say the same thing about the MLS sides? What's to say that the 2 best teams in Canada aren't both in CPL? Maybe the second place team in the PEI tourney should complain that the MLS finalist didn't really earn that spot by beating them.  The point is that no knockout tournament can guarantee the 2 best teams in the final. If you want that, you have to play a full round robin, home-and-away fixture and call it a league.
    • One thing we'll see (once again) will be another big personnel turnover once this season is over, whenever and however that happens.  Montero, Reyna (both gone on free transfers), Adnan (sold for bigger coin), Milinkovic (loan not renewed), Khmiri (?).  The biggest move might end up being the coach as Schuster decides to go with his own choice and not stay with the one he inherited.
    • Thanks! I had read that but I was hoping there were some other details. We know so little about his plans.    As an aside, being a supporter of Vancouver Island, I’m finding all this talk of ‘the island’ in reference to P.E.I. confusing
    • I don't think the coaching staff really knew what they were getting with him.  He started off as an attacking midfielder with the other two mids in support, but then he was shifted to a much deeper role in midfield and in one game last year was even tried as an inverted winger on the left of the three man attack.  His final match with the club featured him as a second striker.  Sure, there are times that you have to move guys into different spots out of necessity but you certainly felt that the MDS was feeling that he wasn't getting enough out of his DP, hence the bouncing around.  I concur with others that his midfield supporting cast from last season didn't do him any favours.  It's disappointing that the In-Beom-Owusu-Bikel midfield never got a chance to play together.
    • I’m genuinely curious how many TFC academy players have left the club, and afterwards proven that they deserved more minutes with TFC. I can’t think of enough examples to start questioning the clubs philosophy, but I really don’t follow them that closely
    • Yes.  But I mean, they don't have to beat an MLS team to get there.  There's not even the possibility of them having to face an MLS team to get there.  The CPL was just awarded a spot in the final.  Hence, the spot is not earned by the CPL.
