Proflle articles say her mother passed away when she was 7 and her father died in 2017. She passed on NWSL draft to train to become a fire fighter as that was the decision made with her father.

A really unique path.

There are more articles about her and her time as a firefighter elsewhere on the web too. (Angel City's website, the SF Chronicle)

Mayra Ramírez wasn't released by Chelsea. Though, Lawrence & Buchanan for Canada and Fishel for USA are going.

Colombia not being part of Concacaf may have given Chelsea the loophole to keep her.

Shame that the four CONMEBOL Nations don't get the same treatment.

It is asinine that they have a major tournament at a critical moment in everyone's season--except the players in US clubs. It also happens to be the NWSL pre-season, a bad time to do it.

It's the $$$ factor. It's the cheapest time for CONCACAF to do it.

The original plan was summer 2024 but Copa America in the USA shelved their original plan.

Reminder for those who may have forgotten (like me), our first group game is against the winner of Guatemala vs El Salvador, which will be played tomorrow/tonight (Feb 17) at 10pm eastern, 7pm local/pacific.

Just checked and all 3 play in games will be on One Soccer today

Thanks. I believe 12 of Guyana's 23-women squad are Canadian, so more than half the team! 😁 🍁

I will have to cheer for them by default I guess!

----

Plenty of Canadians in Haiti's squad as well.

The coach tried to call Lourdjina Etienne (awarded Best Player of the U17 tournament that just took place) but she was unable to travel due to visa issues.

In the 1st half of El Salvador vs Guatemala:

El Salvador have been dominant [even before the Guatemala red card (you can't punch a player in the back!)].

Two goals by Brenda Cerén who looks a class above any other player on that pitch.

El Salvador are slowly improving their player pool and have just recruited a quality USA-dual in Samantha Fisher who plays with Chicago in the NWSL.

Fisher also hit the post in that first half and has combined well. She is another player that has brought this El Salvador team to another level.

Respect to their coach Eric Acuña (and his mega-beard). This El Salvador team looks well coached and very cohesive. Lots of very quick incisive accurate passing. Fun game to watch so far.

In the 2nd half Guatemala finally settled into the game but it was too late as they were already down a player. Guatemala's Ana Lucía Martínez got to show her quality by hitting the crossbar twice; the second time it bounced in for a goal.

El Salvador were still strong in transition. Brenda Cerén took two penalties. The first one was the goal that gave her the hatrick for the night, the 2nd she kicked into the sky.

The #CanWNT should easily deal with El Salvador's defence but 🇸🇻 have enough quality that they could keep the match interesting and cause problems for Paraguay and/or Costa Rica.

El Salvador looked the best of the 6 play-in teams. At times, their attacking pace & quickness was above some tier 1 countries.

Unfortunate Guatemala didn't advance as they looked like a top 3 team. Though, they were a bit disappointing after Mont Vic said to watch out for them on Footy Prime. It seemed like they didn't scout El Salvador or got their tactics wrong in the first half.

And contrary to the view cited by some that women's football is better than men because there is no diving & other shenanigans, it was good to see the dark arts on display from both El Salvador and Guatemala.

Unfortunate to see Haiti out since they were missing a number of their top players due to the match being outside of the FIFA window and player injuries.

With Aramco now a Concacaf sponsor, I would expect the Saudis in both women & men's Gold Cup.

Davidson says Reid's mother was born in Ottawa and grew up in Deep River, Ont., and Toronto before moving to the United States while in high school.

Reid officially got her citizenship paperwork last week.

She believes Canada got to hear about her from several sources, including both her agent and University of Virginia coach Steve Swanson, a former U.S. assistant coach.
