Good to see the Fury had  7 subs for todays game, even though it did include the 2 academy lads, Timbo on the bench so maybe he is almost ready to return, Stewart,Mwanga and Eustaquio came on in the 2nd half for Olivera, Williams and Dixon.

final score 1-1 Stewart scoring for the Fury, Att. 6139. Game stopped in the 83rd min for lightning, 35 min delay.  Strange that Peiser has been on the bench the last 2 games and DeBellis has started.

Obasi, Porter, Timbo and Bruna are all back in training according to Dalglish on his AMA. Bruna, Obasi and Porter will still take a little while to regain fitness since they've been out so long, but "most of them" should be on the bench Friday. By process of elimination Haworth, Balchan, Venter, de Guzman and Gyorio will still be out a while longer (as we knew already for the most part). He didn't comment on the timeline for those five players' return.

Other highlights include his comments on recruiting Canadian players, saying that he believes that because of the lack of domestic opportunities the club has a "duty" to give Canadian players a chance if they're good enough. He also praised Julian's role in promoting the club in this regard.

Also, Paul says the club is in talks and are under the understanding that Pablo Dyego will return next season, though he did not specify if it will be permanent move or another loan deal. Apparently Dyego is very interested in returning. The possibility of Bryan Olivera returning is unclear, no talks have occurred yet, and apparently Bryan has a European passport and ambitions to play there but the club would obviously like to have him back if he's interested, according to PD.

Here's the whole thing if anyone missed it:

Fury 2 Edmonton 2  Att. 4,956

Ottawa up 2-0 on goals by Stewart and Tissot, miss a penalkty taken twice, both saved , Ottawa had chances but could'nt get the 3rd and it hurt them, Edmonton got one back before half time and then equalised, and in last minute Alves twice cleared off the line to preserve the tie.

Obasi came on for about 5 mins and Haworth about 12 mins in Fury`s bizare 0-0 draw tonight with Puerto Rico. Peisar the star with 2 or 3 great save including a great save in last minute but he could`nt stop  the free kick which gave Puerto a 1-0 lead but the ref could and did by saying the free kick was indirect and not direct. He gave out a number of yellow cards when players kicked the ball away after a fk was given. Players were falling down all over the field and water was spraying up in a number of places game temp was 94f. It seemed a lot of Fury players were pulling out of tackles or headers and making very poor passes, against a better team they would and should be punished for this.

Edwards has`nt been the same the last few games and was subbed tonight.

  • 2 weeks later...

  • The NASL comprises a collection of 12 independent franchises, while USL has a mix of independents and affiliates of MLS clubs, such as the academy squads of the Vancouver Whitecaps, Montreal Impact and Toronto FC.
  • Postmedia reported three weeks ago that franchise owner Ottawa Sports & Entertainment Group expected to lose as much as $2 million on Fury FC operations this year even though the club ranks fourth in the NASL in attendance with an average of 5,632, a figure published by the website SoccerStadiumDigest.
  • OSEG’s only comment about the situation remains a statement issued after an initial wave of rumours about USL in early September. It offered a commitment that Fury FC would continue operations in 2017, but made no mention at all about which league it would be in.

“Ottawa Fury is an NASL franchise and a league member in good standing,” the Sept. 1 statement said. “Over the last three seasons, Fury has forged strong ties with Ottawa/Gatineau soccer associations and the community at large and those efforts, combined with Fury’s high calibre of play, have established a growing fan base for professional soccer in our region. Our long-term focus is on gaining even greater fan support, this season and in future seasons. …”

So they could go to USL and exit when CPL starts. The problem is, won`t they even have less attendance by playing in USL? Wouldn`t they have to let go of players that earn NASL salaries or will they keep them and thrashed all the other teams?

Sure they would get somewhat less attendance, but I doubt it would be that much difference. About the other players, look at the team last year, most of the players from last serason were sold during the offseason. It could happen again this year. USL would not have trips in Oklahoma or in the West hell even Edmonton. It's probably cheaper to go to Orlando.
