Wow, that is a shocker!

It is.. but a pleasant one, hopefully he can help toughen up the back line for Fall season, Edmonton must feel it can afford to ship him for future favours, or to clear salary as they finished third one point back of tied leaders Indy Eleven and the Cosmos.

Now if the Fury can find a striker....

No idea what the family issues are, but by the sound of it that's a bit of class from FCE / Tom Fath. Edwards started practically every game and in general played in important role for the club. Them letting him go can't have been easy, especially not to the competition.

Curious about why Ottawa didn't pay a transfer fee to Edmonton. Are they that hurting for cash that they had to low ball Eddie?

It reads to me that Ottawa refused to pay a transfer fee, so Edmonton was forced to release Eddie, just so Ottawa could sign him. Or that they couldn't afford his salary on a loan agreement, so they had to sign him for less.

Perhaps FC Edmonton didn't ask for a transfer fee? Perhaps they did and Ottawa refused? Perhaps there was a transfer fee but it wasn't reported? Perhaps both clubs came to an agreement that put the player first over the clubs and a transfer was never discussed?

We don't know and likely won't. Either way, who cares! Anyone bringing up a transfer fee is detracting from what is a classy move by the Eddies.

Just curious mate. Not taking anything away from what is a tough situation for Eddie, or how great the club was with dealing with it. Just thinking that its rather classless from Ottawa not to "do right" by FCEd here. Even if its just taking a season long loan and covering Eddie's salary.

And yet, that's exactly what you're doing by calling the Fury classless in this situation. Looks bad on Eddies supporters that you're insinuating this when it's supposed to be a good story.

This article from Steven Sandor says there was no transfer fee, it was an agreement between the two clubs:

The Eddies finished the spring season a point out of first place. Miller believes the club can survive the loss of Edward, who was released so he could tend to personal issues in Ottawa. He then signed for the Fury as the club’s came to a gentlemen’s agreement.

...

Officially, the Eddies released Edward and received no compensation from Ottawa. But, Miller was asked if there could be any considerations between the teams in the future.

“That’s a matter between the two clubs,” said Miller.

Fury FC set to kick off fall season

A three-week break between the spring and fall seasons of the North American Soccer League comes to an end with Saturday night’s away match against the New York Cosmos, which means Fury FC has an opportunity to make everyone forget about its struggles in the early portion of the 2016 campaign, to some degree the byproduct of the collective grind of seven matches in 25 days.

It's going to be a long night for the Fury tonight, only 5 subs on the bench, and 4 mins into the game Peisar is sent off for a 2 footed tackle that was not called by the ref but by the linesman this also resulted in a penalty, down 1-0. Chin was subbed for DeBellis and he took the ball out of the back of the goal when Lucky made it 2-0 at HT

Bailey and De Guzman have also been yellow carded.
