Match Thread: July 30, 2022 - Valour v Pacific

Recommended Posts

It's worth mentioning that Ascanio's first yellow (totally legit, of course) came because he reacted badly to being scythed down (not legally) by a Victoria player. I was at the game so I didn't catch the number, but it looked like the same #7 who Ascanio had been destroying the whole first half, who was already on a yellow for a foul on Ascanio (should have been red, studs up over the ball) and had subsequently been warned after another foul. This was a bigger and more obvious miss than the penalty.

Just a scandal of officiating and hopefully Phil dos Santos goes out and earns himself a fine. Any discipline is immaterial, the season is over. Today was Valour's chance to close the gap on the only team with a real chance of dropping out of the top 4.

Defender went into the challenge with no chance of winning the ball, and the trailing leg was clearly caught by the defender. There are several angles that show this, as one of your Pacific FC tweeters mentions.

Even without that decision, though, the referee had a shocker.

I had to laugh at Gazdov after the match, who was giving the thumbs to his namebar on the back of his jersey. After making one save of note all game, and making an absolute gift of the first goal (a ball that nobody being played to play football should cough up.) Good comic timing, that guy.
