I don't think so, given that Zebie is in his third year as a pro and had his minutes drastically reduced last year. curious as to why you think he may be though?

b/c since he's been in the midfield the team had its been second half in two games. then won the game against prfc. Kinda stabilizing the middle of the field is my thought and playing ahead of the argtenine interntatinal slot

Offside debate, missed open net part of wild FC Edmonton win over Puerto Rico

The temperature was ice cold in Edmonton on Saturday night. There were snowflakes in the air. But Puerto Rico coach Adrian Whitbread’s temper was white-hot.

Whitbread wasn’t pleased after his team dropped a 2-1 decision to FC Edmonton,  the Eddies first win of the NASL season.

Whitbread was furious that the Eddies’ opening goal was allowed to stand. In the second half, substitute Ben Fisk stepped in off the left wing, beat Puerto Rico’s Yuma, then slipped a ball into Dustin Corea, who turned and delivered a swerving shot that went into the top corner of the goal.

Match Preview: FC Edmonton begin three-game road trip against Miami FC

"We let ourselves down the previous week against [North Carolina FC], but we really bounced back with a solid performance this past Saturday night," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said. "The win was critical for us, not in terms of pressure from where we were in the league, but just getting a result because we had played well in the previous home game and got nothing out of it. We deserved the three points and got a very positive performance following a defeat, so I’m really pleased with where the group is at heading into this important road trip.

“It’s given everyone a lift. You could see it in training this week and the players are in a better frame of mind.”

Canadian Championship: Battle of the North Qualifying Round Kicks off May 3 in Ottawa

FC Edmonton plays vs Montreal Impact's minor league affiliate in USL the Ottawa Fury FC this Wednesday May 3 in the first leg of the qualifying round of the Canadian Championship :

http://www.fcedmonton.com/news/2017/05/01/canadian-championship-battle-of-the-north-qualifying-round-kicks-off-may-3-in-ottawa

The opening matches of the Battle of the North between Ottawa Fury FC and FC Edmonton will be livestreamed on CanadaSoccerTV (www.youtube.com/c/canadasoccertv/live) starting at 19:15 ET (17:15 MT) 3 May from Ottawa and 21:15 ET (19:15 MT) 10 May from Edmonton.

The two-match qualifying series sets the stage for an epic Battle of the North with the chance of international glory on the line. As the only all-Canada competition that leads to the international stage, including the CONCACAF Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup, not only will the Canadian Championship winner claim club soccer supremacy in Canada, but it will have the chance to carry Canada’s flag in international competition.

“We’re calling this competition The Battle of the North because it really is the pinnacle of Canadian club soccer, and the only competition that gives Canadian professional clubs an opportunity to advance to the international stage,” said Peter Montopoli, General Secretary for Canada Soccer. “Canadian clubs have come close to securing a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup in the past, including the Montreal Impact in 2015, and we are confident we’ll see some world-class soccer in each of these upcoming Canadian Championship matches.”

FC Edmonton play vs Indy Eleven today :

FC Edmonton still in search of their first road win of the season

The Indy Eleven, who lost in the championship final in penalty kicks to the New York Cosmos last year, have tied each of their first five games and are currently sixth in the standings, two points ahead of Edmonton.

Last year, the Indy Eleven defeated FC Edmonton in the NASL semifinal.

“We know Indy very well, we played against them a number of times last season and there wasn’t much between these two teams,” Miller said. “They are very tough to beat at home, but not invincible by any stretch of the imagination. They play a 4-4-2 in a diamond formation and they have arguably two of the best linking center forwards in the league and two big guys in Eamon Zayed and Justin Braun.”

Braun leads the league with three goals, while Zayed has scored one. FC Edmonton are hoping to keep the two off the scoreboard and find goals at the other end to earn their first road win since Aug. 20.

Does it seem weird he saids he flys home as soon as he has any days off ... How much money can he really be making. Does that indicate he doesnt like it in edm? Why not recruit some el salvador national team players here to fced ... probably an upgrade on Di Biase

Both are mediocre players. Eustaquio was a d4 sub in portugal and a sub in ottawa. But Miller has lost it He doesn't know where to play Straith and Ledgerwood, putting him at AM and not giving enough time to good options such as fisk and khattab.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, I think Edmonton may have sold out the game tonight. Attendance was 4096, and according to this Steven Sandor article, that's the sellout number at Clarke Stadium. Gotta give Jay Ball and the front office big time props for the crowds they are drawing this year, especially when last year's attendance was very low at times.

Steven Sandor has confirmed Saturday's game was a sellout. And it sounded like a true sellout, not a paper sellout either.

Finally, Edmonton showed that it can be a soccer city. The moving of the games to Saturday nights has seen attendances rise. A promotion that saw Canadian national-team hero Diana Matheson appear at the game, and giving pregame instruction to dozens upon dozens of girls soccer players, only increased the family-fun, festival atmosphere.

Mother nature finally cooperated. There was no snow. No giant windstorm. No Biblical downpour.

Maybe this Saturday night was the night soccer finally arrived in Edmonton. Maybe tonight will go down as the first building block towards a larger stadium — one which would have the capacity to allow the Eddies to at least break even. And for the 4,096 in attendance, they witnessed the Eddies win for just the second time in eight NASL matches, as they trumped the winless  Indy Eleven by a 2-1 score.

Not even close. Couldn't be more apart in playing style.

I think @yothat was referring to a Canadian coming out of nowhere (so to speak) and picking up serious minutes, not to position or playing style.
