In the English Championship today: Bristol City is hosting Burnley and Edgar takes a spot on the bench for the visitors, Peters is on the bench for Ipswich who host S****horpe, Hull trail Norwich 1-0 at home, Jackson on the bench for Norwich and Preston lead Coventry 1-0 on a Hume goal in the 24th minute! Three Canadians all on the bench for their teams and unlikely to get into the match have all been called for Belarus! One Canadian starts and actually scores for his side yet he's left out! Something a little strange here!

Hirschfeld starting for Valerenga Oslo at Viking in the season opener (I think) in Norway. 1-0 for Valerenga at the half.

90 minutes and a clean sheet for Lars as Valerenga win 2-0.

Yes, it is the first week of football in the Tippeligaen. A couple of good saves from Lars and a very good 2-0 win away for Enga in Stavanger.

Greg Sutton starting for New York (beat Coundoul out of camp for the GK spot) vs. Seattle 0-0 at the half with a nice stop off Fredy Montero. Where does this put Sutton on the depth chart? 3rd I'd say and probably deserving of a Gold Cup call if he keeps it up.

Pozniak was missing from Haugesund's season opening 2-0 loss away to Tromso. He was serving the first of a three match suspension for his red card in last season's finale.

Pacheco started and played 85 min of Santa Clara's scoreless draw at home to Varzim. With the point, SC are in a four-way tie for sixth place.

Kennedy Owosu-Ansah is apparently still trialing for AC Oulu, as he started in a 5-1 friendly win vs TP-47 on Saturday.

Frank Jonke's club AC Oulu didn't get a license to play in the Veikkausliiga. However, they managed to secure a spot in the first division, the Ykkönen. In other words, Frank will either continue his career at AC Oulu or move elsewhere.

Bummer. It sounds like the town and the supporters really did all they could do to save it. Can you shed any light on KOA and the whole gambling affair? We are just getting bits and pieces, mostly poorly translated I suspect.

Yes, there's been lots of talk about the gambling affair, which actually doesn't concern more than one team (RoPS in the Veikkausliiga) and a former player of AC Oulu, who's now representing HJK Helsinki.

A Singaporean "business man" had approached Zambian players of RoPS and Zambian Dominic Yobe of AC Oulu. Apparently, these players have accepted his offers of somewhat large sums to interfere with match results of their respective teams. According to a Zambian source, Yobe had accepted an offer of 30 000 €, but it's still unclear in what way they have sabotaged the play.

RoPS have a history of many African players in their squad, and they also run some sort of a soccer academy in Zambia. In other words, this is a pretty big blow for them. They're also a team that have previously been the subject of similar affairs, and have also fired a number of players because of it.

The African players of RoPS (obviously only the suspects, but there's four of them) and one Georgian player remain arrested. Dominic Yobe has been released today, but it's still unclear whether he'll continue his career at HJK or not. He's currently not allowed to train with the Finnish champions due to internal club policy.

Cheers for this - this is really fascinating for me. Any explanation of Kennedy Owosu-Ansah's situation? - it sounds like he had strange couple of weeks himself. Glad that he wasn't implicated.

No problem!

I'm not very familiar with Kennedy, but AC Oulu wrote on their website that he was tripped in the penalty box after a strong run against TP-47, which resulted in a penalty for his club. I think he might be eligible to play for Oulu in their 5th round Finnish Cup match when they meet Soccer Club Riverball on March 27.

Concerning Jonke, I wouldn't be too surprised to see him join IFK Mariehamn in the Premier Division, since they're looking for a striker as one of their key players got injured. He'd also have two Canadian countrymen and American Josh Wicks over there, so I think he'd fit perfectly. You'd think he's got a clause in his contract that allows him to move now that AC Oulu isn't in the top flight.
