spinrack
Some media sources are showing discussion of Brazil squads for two games vs Canada, Oct. 28 & 31. First game in Montreal, second TBD. https://www.cbf.com.br/selecao-brasileira/noticias/selecao-feminina/arthur-elias-anuncia-convocacao-da-selecao-brasileira-feminina https://x.com/karlyboy71/status/1708923025360314508?s=46&t=ZgeDv33MEnpTE7cHHsUoew Edited October 6, 2023 by spinrack Olympique_de_Marseille
JamboAl
@Olympique_de_Marseillesent me a message with the same info. Makes sense to put a game in Montreal if true. Very interested to see where Game 2 is. Olympique_de_Marseille
spinrack
Oct. 28 actually presents a possible conflict for many Canadian soccer fans, as the CPL cup final is scheduled for that weekend. One would expect that a CWNT match on the 28th forces the CPL to give preference for the final to be played on the 29th.

If I understand correctly: - Ottawa cannot host (if they qualify). - York cannot host (if they qualify). So, any CanPL match would be hosted by a city far from Montréal which would impact only a handful of dedicated fans who want to attend both matches. I believe OneSoccer and the CSA will make sure the matches do not overlap. #CanWNT on Saturday afternoon and the CanPL final on Saturday evening. Olympique_de_Marseille
Rumour is that the 2nd match will be played at a smaller venue because this match will be Halloween night! The last 3 #CanWNT home matches at stadiums with a regular capacity under 10 thousand were: - in Etobicoke, vs Italy in June 2006 - in Moncton, vs China in May 2012 - in Langford, vs Nigeria in April 2022 (I am not 100% sure of this, so please correct any mistakes)

Since they last played in Moncton, they've removed the grass and put in turf so I think Halifax is the most likely venue. spinrack
FYI to all, I am the main organizer for Voyageurs activities in Montreal, so can be considered a contact point for supporter activity for this game. I have already put a call out to some of the club supporters groups for help.
Stoppage Time
Won't the choice of Wanderers Ground in Halifax cost the broke CSA much needed money due to its low attendance capacity as opposed to sold out BMO Field for the Jamaica match? Stoppage Time
Is the CMNT program now owed an extra friendly and camp because the women have two upcoming while the men have just one? Isn't that the new arrangement now?

Yes and no. 23 hours ago, Olympique_de_Marseille said: a smaller venue because this match will be Halloween night! If you are going to throw a bone to a smaller stadium once in awhile, a Tuesday Halloween night would be the time to do it. This match would be a tough sell in any venue. red card
Just last month, Derek Martin said in a podcast that Canada Soccer passed on matches at the Wanderers Grounds previously because the off pitch facilities weren't up to the standards expected for national team players. So, I wonder what has changed? A nudge to get stadium funding? Will the players voice disapproval of subpar conditions? Otherwise, this is similar to the decision to play a Celebration Tour match at Starlight.

It’s an unfair comparison. The Jamaica game was a competitive match with an Olympics spot on the line. This game is a friendly, one of two, with another against the same opponent having already been played at a larger venue just three days prior. Califax
Super excited. it would also be a great time to recruit some vees and get a proper Halifax “chapter”
Stoppage Time
Well, some Hallowe'en masked Canadian Players in promotion ads as well as a short fireworks show would be just the things to make this a fun, attractive evening for kids. Stage a contest - "Who is behind the mask?" with the player's number shown on their shorts.

Is that not a primo opponent to create ticket sales?
OhCanadaOhBaby
Any word on what the voyageur allocation of tickets for the Halifax game will look like? Would love to get involved in a 108 style Voyageurs section in Halifax

Colonel Green
I was in the queue for tickets to the Halifax game when it went active at 10 AM. There were hardly any tickets available even at the beginning and they were snapped up in like thirty seconds.
