  • spinrack changed the title to (Rumoured) CWNT vs Brazil, Oct. 28 & 31

Oct. 28 actually presents a possible conflict for many Canadian soccer fans, as the CPL cup final is scheduled for that weekend.  One would expect that a CWNT match on the 28th forces the CPL to give preference for the final to be played on the 29th.

If I understand correctly:

- Ottawa cannot host (if they qualify).

- York cannot host (if they qualify).

So, any CanPL match would be hosted by a city far from Montréal which would impact only a handful of dedicated fans who want to attend both matches.

I believe OneSoccer and the CSA will make sure the matches do not overlap.

#CanWNT on Saturday afternoon and the CanPL final on Saturday evening.

Rumour is that the 2nd match will be played at a smaller venue because this match will be Halloween night!

The last 3 #CanWNT home matches at stadiums with a regular capacity under 10 thousand were:

- in Etobicoke, vs Italy in June 2006

- in Moncton, vs China in May 2012

- in Langford, vs Nigeria in April 2022

(I am not 100% sure of this, so please correct any mistakes)

Won't the choice of Wanderers Ground in Halifax cost the broke CSA much needed money due to its low attendance capacity as opposed to sold out BMO Field for the Jamaica match?

Yes and no.

If you are going to throw a bone to a smaller stadium once in awhile, a Tuesday Halloween night would be the time to do it.

This match would be a tough sell in any venue.

Just last month, Derek Martin said in a podcast that Canada Soccer passed on matches at the Wanderers Grounds previously because the off pitch facilities weren't up to the standards expected for national team players.

So, I wonder what has changed?

A nudge to get stadium funding? Will the players voice disapproval of subpar conditions?

Otherwise, this is similar to the decision to play a Celebration Tour match at Starlight.

It’s an unfair comparison.  The Jamaica game was a competitive match with an Olympics spot on the line.  This game is a friendly, one of two, with another against the same opponent having already been played at a larger venue just three days prior.

Well, it IS Brazil. Is that not a primo opponent to create ticket sales?

Who will get her first cap first Proulx or Dagenais? 😅
