Some eligible names that stand out:

Akwasi Agyekum - TRU: Second year midfielder from Calgary. Impressed at the USPORTS finals, winning match MVP in two of three games as TRU earned their first national championship.

Chris Campoli - Ontario Tech: Third year midfielder who was drafted in two previous iterations, but has yet to crack a roster. Campoli won U SPORTS player of the year by leading the OUA in both goals and assists.

Quentin Paumier - Montreal: Third year midfielder from France, who was previously drafted by Edmonton. Added 4 goals and 3 assists in 10 games, on way to a nomination for U SPORTS player of the year.

Gabriel Balbinotti - UQTR: Third year forward made 6 appearances with Forge in 2020. Has consistently been a top scorer at the PLSQ level. This season in U SPORTS, he delivered 13 goals in only 9 appearances in RSEQ. He impressed further at the National Championships, including a match against McMaster where he scored twice and added two assists.

Eric Lajeunesse - UBC: First year defender from Ottawa, took home the national rookie of the year. Formerly part of VWFC academy, led UBC in minutes played (as a freshman). He is a 6'2 left-footed centre back.

Caden Rogozinski - Mount Royal: Second year defender from Calgary, was drafted by Cavalry last year but did not make the final roster. Second straight U SPORTS team of the year honours while leading a team that only let in 7 goals in 14 Canada West matches. Gained valuable experience playing for Electric City in L1O during the summer.

Zakaria Abdi - TMU: Second year forward, has only started 11 total USPORTS games but has put home 12 goals in his career. He averages 1 shot every 8 minutes, and 1 goal every 67 minutes through two seasons. The 6'5 sophomore previously spent six years developing at TFC Academy. Scored 10 goals in 21 L1O matches this year for NT Nitros.

Gardner should just sign as a free agent already 😂

There's quite a few collegiate guys that could probably get looks as a free agent, especially former draft picks. Gardner being one, Daniel Kaiser and the contingent of Michael Henman, Shumbusho, Pianelli, Sow, Olatoye, El Gandour assuming they're graduating.

And the complete list: https://canpl.ca/article/2022-cpl-u-sports-draft-full-prospect-list

At least 10-15 players who have had a "brush" with CPL.   199 declared, a lot to select from.

Previously drafted players who had their rights retained by their clubs are Kareem Sow by Halifax Wanderers FC, Jacob Carlos by Valour FC, Markus Kaiser by Cavalry and Luca Ricci by Pacific FC. As a result, they will not enter this year’s draft.

I know it says 199 players, but there is only actually 198 on the list. No, I didn't count, I copied the list into Excel.

Maybe another De Brienne situation where a team offered a draft-eligible player a full contract to skip the draft?

Which makes perfect sense, this isnt college football on every channel and playing bowl games in front of 70k on new years day.  If a kid can get a full contract with a CPL team, does he really care much about losing his last year or two of Usports eligibility??

Hasn't Chris Campoli been selected before and nothing came of it. From what I read previously final year students are not eligible.  Wouldn't he be better off signing as a free agent unless he is going for a 5th year?

He must be returning to school in 2023 as that is one of the requirements to be eligible for the draft.

I'm pretty sure Campoli is only a third year student, so he is returning to school.

Just saw the Ontario Tech Roster and he has been on the team since 2019....that's four years.

What are the draft rules?

Is he and all 4th year students not considered free agents and ineligible to be in the draft.

There was no season in 2020, so I don't think that counts as a year of eligibility, the 2022 roster shows him as a junior and Canadian Universities allow up to 5 years of eligibility.  So looks like he is good for another year of University soccer.
