That is a stadium Spain has played friendlies at, for some reason they are using it for women's matches.

The stadium itself is a model for a small venue with curved corners, it is a direct copy of Barça's former 2nd stadium, the Mini Estadi, which was torn down last year.

A bit far for me to go for a match, that's about a 7-hour drive.

I'm a little sad that we are playing Brazil again instead of Poland or Russia. Both of those teams seem to have decided to travel to southern Spain for matches during this window.

I personally would have loved for the girls to play Poland, Russia, France or even Germany in a friendly.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thunderstorm came in and I lost power and internet, so missed a lot of this match.

More questions than answers from what I saw.

Priestman said she expected to name her 18 player roster for the OG within 10 days of the conclusion of this camp, so I guess we will know by June 24th or 25th at the absolute latest who is going to Tokyo.

Given the strength and depth of the goalkeepers and backline, the rest of the starting 11 selected by Priestman tends to be too defensive, slow and limited in their scope. So, it's basically up to the fullbacks and wingers to create chances.

The fullbacks are largely a complete package but our wingers still need to round out their game. Unlike the men, there is no world class winger. In the middle only Quinn progressively advances the ball. Fleming is far short of being the women's version of Eustaquio.

So, other than when playing top 4 teams, there is no reason to play some combo of Scott, Schmidt, Fleming & Sinclair. Lawrence, Grosso & Viens need to be given more time in the middle with Quinn.

Not likely to be included in the 18, but adding St. Georges would allow even more flex to play Lawrence in the middle. But the reality is that cupboard appears bare beyond the backline. The 12 year olds who were inspired by Sinclair in 2012 and should be in the pipeline are nowhere to be found so far.
