They have until the day before to register for the draft. Viens might get interest from Europe, but I tink that she'll wait to see what's the best option for her before commiting to the NWSL draft.

I know that Bianca St. Georges got drafted by the Chicago Red Stars last year, but I don't see her on the First or Reserve rosters on their website.  Has she been dropped by the team, or is there somewhere else draft picks can end up for development?

...and the other 5 Canadians on the list don't get drafted.

 

Can Viens get allocated? I'm not sure of the rules; she hasn't gotten 3 or more caps in the last 24 months.

She couldn't get allocated that way, but CSA could potentially sign her as an NWSL allocated player which would allow her to make potentially more.

Wow!  Zerboni is dropped from the list and traded to Sky Blue.  I guess it's old news, but I hadn't heard of it.

I finally figured out I could watch the games on Twitch (I mistakenly thought I would have to get a paid subscription).  The league is looking a lot younger nowadays.  I guess a lot of the big name players have opted out or left for greener pastures.  Anyway, Houston is looking pretty good, with their four Canadians on the roster.  I didn't see Allysha Chapman on the roster for last night's game, so I hope whatever is keeping her out isn't too serious.  Go Dash!

Not a Canadian but OL Reign player sounding off on wages. She was rookie of the year and made NWSL best second starting 11 in 2019.

Though, she should be blaming NWSL rather than NBA. She was first NAIA college player to sign with NWSL, so maybe she initially signed for less than 40k.

Paul Riley became the third male NWSL coach fired for misconduct since August. 

Riley, who coached the Courage to two consecutive NWSL titles, coerced a player into having sex with him; forced two players to kiss and then sent them unsolicited sexual pictures; and yelled at and belittled players.

Players came forward twice, at least. In 2015, a player reported the inappropriate behaviour to her team, the Portland Thorns. Earlier this year, an email chain made public by Alex Morgan on Thursday made clear, she made the same complaint direct to the NWSL leadership. The league, so conscious of its own fragility chose to sweep all of it under the carpet rather than look after its players’ well-being.

I guess the positive is that if 3 have been fired in the last month or 2, that probably indicates a recent change in attitude towards this kind of garbage from the league and their teams. Hopefully there aren't any other bad apples still involved in the league yet to be fired.

Matches cancelled for this weekend. Lots of heads will need to roll including the commissioner and management personnel from at least 3-4 clubs.

Could lead to the death knell of NWSL in its current form.

Yep - should definitely cool down the push to create Canadian clubs for NWSL. Time to focus on a Canadian solution for the women's game.

Nothing from Canada Soccer yet even though they pay players to play in NWSL and considered a quasi-cofounder & backer of the league. And of course, Dr Nick has been overly vocal in wanting a NWSL team in Canada.

Why is women sports news usually lifestyle? Interviews with players are usually can they twerk, their family, team social dynamics, how they feel, etc. They're almost never about the game and if they are it's usually trite observations you could get from the scoresheet. Photos of male athletes are action shots, of women they are usually portraits or non-competition images. Anything to do with sexual politics or behaviour is a total media feeding frenzy.

Can you imagine if the NWSL got this kind of coverage about the actual game?

US Soccer is ending paying salaries of NWSL US national team players. NWSL will be paying the players directly. Apparently, the Thorns had already done this 1 year ago. 

The NWSL max salary is 52.5k while the U.S. federation players made either roughly 93k or 99k. For an NWSL team to retain a players’ rights, they must make a qualifying offer of at least 60.5K.

US Soccer also had a cap of 3-4 players that could play outside of the NWSL. Now, any player is free to go play abroad without jeopardizing their U.S. national team pay. This also means NWSL finally joins the transfer fee world of football.

Will the CSA also stop paying allocated NWSL players?

Not all that surprising given their acrimonious relationship and the PAs lawyers should have told them all to expect it long ago when they went down this road.

On the last tweet - Sam Kerr is probably the only player to potentially cap 500 depending on the terms, Hegerberg and Harder are less. Saying top women's teams in Europe pay their stars (plural!) that much or more is out to lunch. The great thing about the internet is you don't have to do any fact checking.
