The Beaver
Yes, but the real test for Hart will be in WCQ. We need to compare apples to apples. I want Hart to succeed--hell, I wanted Mitchell to succeed--but friendlies and Gold cup competition is NOT the same as WCQ.
Portuguese Sensation
You're right Beaver - you can't compare BUT given his success in Friendlies and Gold Cup, and add in just how well Canada seems to play under him - he certainly deserves a shot at leading us to the 2014 World Cup. They might not be the same thing, but when did Mitchell have success in friendlies? I remember an awful game against South Africa, how well did Iceland go, what about Estonia? (or was it Latvia?) Dale couldn't beat Costa Rica. Heart has once and I suspect he will again. If you want to compare apples and apples, compare the way the team has played under Heart in friendlies against the way they played under Mitchel in friendlies. Its night and day really. The Ref
Players don't respond to Mitchell. It is a simple as that.
loyola
The irony in all this is that if you look at both games against jamaica (August 20th 2008 and July 3rd 2009) you could argue that the overall team performance was much better in the WCQ game. In the WCQ we played much better defensively, Jamaica never had a real chance and scored on a keeper blunder while offensively we did create a number of good chances with Ricketts coming huge for Jamaica. Last friday we didn't create as much chance and defensively we gave up at least 3 or 4 good chances to Jamaica. Just looking at the post game comments from both games give you an indication of the fans feeling and outside of Onstad mistake it was much more positive last year despite the draw. Lord Bob
You want a statistic? How's this: The last date Canada won its fourth game in a row: May 27, 2000 (Canada 1 - 0 Trinidad and Tobago, friendly at Varsity Stadium, goal by Jeff Clarke).

Clarke header on a Nash cross, wasn't it? Arnold Dwarika pulling the strings for the Trinis? Damn, we've come a long way from a decrepit stadium in downtown TO... though how cool would it have been if the original plan for the National Soccer Stadium at the Varsity site went ahead. Didnt Bruce Kidd put the kibosh to it to get his outdoor track and field site for high school provincials ?

SF
quote:Originally posted by snake the osiek era was not as bad as history tells us it is. I would argue that he was our best manager in memory (Waiters, circa 1986, excepted). Too bad the players hated him, because he was the best tactical manager we ever had and did maximize results given his player pool.
