ironcub14
Some recaps from the AMAZING 4-0 win over Carolina: MD 3 vs Carolina - Gorrick; Maykon, Trafford, Beckie, Fresenga; Ubiparipovic, Ryan ©, Donatelli; Oliver, Haworth, Davies - Subs - Soria, Jarun, Dantas My initial quick thoughts: The return of Ubiparipovic allowed the team back to its favoured 4-3-3 and allowed Oliver to return to his favoured LW position. Add an inspired Phil Davies at RW and the great interchange passing and hard work from all 11 Fury players on the pitch and we ended up with the greatest day in our very young OFFC history. MM2
I am impressed with the media coverage, 3 pages today on the Fury in the Sun and very positive on level of play and the future of the team. Also Team 1200 on air personalities frequently mention the team and talk about going to the games.
Keegan
Does anyone know how much Minatel is making? Seems like a player a lot of MLS clubs wouldn't mind having.
ironcub14
Does anyone know how much Minatel is making? Seems like a player a lot of MLS clubs wouldn't mind having. I'm new to NASL salaries, but I heard most players are making a range of $25K to $75K. For sure, I'm sure MLS clubs are always looking at NASL players and vice versa. You know what though, I thought Ubiparipovic was the real star of the show Saturday, rather than Oliver. Oliver had 2 headed goals and an own goal from Carolina that was attributed to him (and a great cross and assist to Davies). But it was Ubiparipovic that really kept the ball, kept it moving, made the whole team shine and allow everybody else to get into dangerous positions and do what they're supposed to do. Trillium
So Wednesday and the Voyageurs Cup game.... With Ubiparipovic, I think the Fury win 2 to 1 over the Eddies, even if they release the Rally Rabbit, Miller will be on thin ice as a coach if he agian just plays "Highland League Style" and fails to win. The Eddies have gone down in terms of technical quality with his coaching, from what dutch crew had developed as a base. It might be a long time for Edmonton to delvelop strong technical leadership, Ottawa seems to have the jump on the Eddies with the clubs history and ownership background. The big question becomes can a owner with no soccer background put together a winning club ?
shamrock
I dunno maybe Ottawa are the slight favorites as they only need to score and draw. But at home and with the Fury still missing a lot of quality, I think FC Edmonton will come on top. I mean if they couldn't create much in Ottawa, how come they will in Edmonton? For the tournament itself it would be best if Ottawa advances, because a match between Montreal and Ottawa will probably make more headlines. Especially with Dos Santos' history and some of the players.

For the lack of creativity in the 1st leg, we are attributing all that to the absence of Ubiparipovic at the moment!

Fussball_eh
Actually, Ottawa was missing two key midfielders in their lineups last Wednesday. Ubiparovic (or however u spell him) will likely be back, as he played on Saturday and he will be crucial. I am not sure if Nicki Patterson is fit yet, but likely he is not. Ottawa is coming off a 4:0 win and Edmonton have yet to win a game, so somehwat subjectively I think that they will win .

ironcub14
My wording was a bit bad in my last post. I was trying to say that, for the lack of creativity in the 1st leg vs Edmonton, many of us have now decided that the lack of Ubiparipovic was the reason for the lack of creativity in the 1st leg. But as fussball points out, Paterson has been missing since Ft. Lauderdale as well and his active play has been missed as well. We were discussing though that Donatelli has grown in stature throughout the last few weeks and provided a signiciant amount of creativity vs Carolina as well! Trillium
From the view of the CSA, you have to expect any smart marketing guru at the CSA would prefer a home and home second round in the Voyageurs Cup between Montreal Impact and Ottawa Fury.... The stadia at Carleton could probably get five thousand in at a pinch if they sit on the East side Berm, it could climb higher, depending on what the securtiy folks would allow. A location for the visiting UM02 might be difficult to decide, do you let them have 1000 tickets and how do you seperate them in the stadium ? I actually would put them in the middle of the west stands up high under the media boxes... leave the BTB and Fury SG's in the extreme North West Corner, and have standing room at both ends of field on the East side Berm. I hope the CSA Match agent is planning for it, in advance to co-ordinate the security and flow plan for the fans. You have to bring the UM02 in as a group and escourt them appropriately and provide good quality security. There will be challenges for the CSA who will be responsible for the game. Should the Eddies win and play Montreal, its not nearly the hit the game could have in terms of spectacle. With Montreal out of hockey playoffs.. the Impact have the city to themselves for a few weeks to build up the following. Good times...
