    3 Points For a Win-Fire vs Impact

    Kevin Laramee

Every Friday, I will give my keys to victory for the Montreal Impact, in 3 points!

    No Piatti, No Party?

The Montreal Impact will be without the service of their star Designated Player Nacho Piatti on Saturday versus Chicago. Ignacio could be out several weeks due to a groin injury. Can the Impact create quality goal scoring chances without the Argentinian in the lineup? Can the Impact capitalize on their looks on goal with a depleted lineup? If so, Montreal could come out of Toyota Park with a favorable result. In this case, I would consider a draw on the road a favorable result. If not, a tough afternoon at the office it will be.

    Shoot to Score

The Impact are 17th in MLS for shot attempts. The ratio of attempts vs on target is respectable (26/10). To compensate for the clinical finishing skills of Piatti during his absence, the Impact needs to put the odds in their favor literally and raise the amount of shot attempts, hopefully on target. It will not be easy and with the injury to Patrice Bernier, the service coming from the midfield could struggle, but raising the amount of shot attempts could raise the probability of goal scored.

    Forget Bastian, Cover Dax!

It will be a big day for the Fire, to say the least. Bastian could play, but will doubtfully start. Dax and Juninho are the two key Fire players you need to cover at all times. The revamped midfield for Chicago has already paid dividends this year and with all the new eyes on their product on Saturday, they will want to put on a show! If Montreal can stifle the Combustible Duo like they successfully stifled David Villa two weeks ago, Montreal could pull off the result on the road for a second straight game.

    • I understand, my post was a continuation of a conversation had in the Mexico game thread, hence why certain posters were tagged.
    • Gosh the US have the easiest path to the finals. Even if they win the whole thing with a Mexico B team, they'll  be branded "#2 in CONCACAF" 🙄
    • I agree. This is not a question that should be asked.
    • It wasn't "tactics to lose". There is a difference between picking a starting 11 that doesn't give your team the best chance to win a game and actually wanting to lose a game. If Herdman could have picked the result, he still would have picked a win. However, sometimes to give your team the best chance to win a championship, you have to do something that doesn't give your team the best chance to win a particular game. If you play your best 11 every game, regardless of the circumstances, you just might be tanking your chances in the long run. Just like you don't run a marathon at a sprint pace.
    • When the autumn season starts, knowing what the weather's like in Victoria, will tickets under the gap in the roof be discounted?  As a fan  of quirky little football grounds, I like it in a way.   With grass and a grandstand on the 4th side at some point, this will be by far the best soccer stadium north of Mexico, despite the giant purple wall.
    • I bet Canada when it was 34:1
    • Why is this even a question? I didn't hear people say that when Arfield played Scotland.
    • Huh? YOU are the one who said you have mental health issues! See above. "I have a history of two sentences with you, from which [you've determined] I have mental health issues." I figured your reference to passive aggressive disorder was pretty apparent. ergo: "And btw I said I've replied to you with two sentences from which you've said I have mental health issues." You started off with two quite offensive sentences and in spite of banging on about respect you seem to be continuing that theme. Sentence number two is quite offensive?: "The women's boards have always been a strong alternative community of people respecting each other and there's never been a need to ignore anyone. Hopefully that doesn't change." So far as the number of posts I have made on this thread, I'm inclined to take your comment about mental health issues a little more seriously knowing that you went to the trouble to generate that number.  Again, mental health attacks are pretty low. Here's another number - 40. The number of people posting in this thread, of which one person has contributed over a quarter of the  comments to. Honestly, I have respected and appreciated your contributions to this forum in the past and that is the only reason I am now showing restraint in my replies to your ongoing nonsensical and disingenuous (see above) jibes in my direction. I have no idea why you are doing it but now would be a good time to stop. Ah yes, the innocent victim card again. When there is a pattern perhaps there is more to things.
    • If anything, David and ZGB would try extra hard I would think. But as others have said, I am completely certain this is not an issue whatsoever. Gotta say though @CanadaFan123, that's some top quality Voyageurs skepticism there! You are truly a Vee now my friend!
    • This assumes we can just decide to beat Mexico. It's entirely possible that if we went all out against Mexico we might have still lost. It seems unlikely that we wouldn't have beaten Cuba, but you never know, if we were too gassed from the first 2 games.
