My favorite subject is staff traveling with the team. This time to Norway, there is a whooping 14 staff members, I think it is record. Enough for a team plus 3 subs. Why so many? Do we play better with more and more staff? It looks to me more of a free vacation to Norway.

I don't know who the staff are... but... given my brothers experiences with national team (track & field), you can't trust anyone, anywhere, ever.

Are there any friendlies planned in Canada? Seems like so much WNT training happens outside the country. What's up with that? Why aren't there more int'l friendlies on Canadian soil? Ideas. There are only 3 FIFA Match Agents in Canada. NONE of them interested in promoting the womens' game?

The Canada game is a makeup game for Germans who had tickets to the April 22 Germany/Sweden game that was cancelled because of the Icelandic ash. The game is being played at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion

The tickets from the Sweden game are returnable to September 14th for refund or are valid at the gate. There were 16,300 sold for that game, and 12,500 have yet to be returned. Should be a large crowd.

Canada's Fall schedule released, oddly enough on the Washington State Cougars website (via BigSoccer). Sounds like there is a major league disconnect somewhere.

Aug 25 - travel to Italy for a pair of friendlies

Sep 12 - travel to Dresden for the game on the 15th

Sep 16 - travel to Toronto for games against China on the 26th and 30th

Oct 9/13 - pair of friendlies against South Africa

Oct 15 - travel to Cancun for Gold Cup

Oct 27 - Gold Cup begins

Nov 15 - Gold Cup ends

If it is accurate it looks to be 12 straight weeks.

I guess now we wait to hear from Richard Scott.

Cougar Soccer Freshman Added to Canadian National Team

Freshman Gurveen Clair will compete for her native country.

Aug. 18, 2010

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University soccer freshman goalkeeper Gurveen Clair has been named to the Canadian National team.

A native of Surrey, British Columbia, Clair was a member of Team British Columbia which captured a gold medal at the 2009 Canadian Games.

Clair will travel with the Canadian team to Rome, Aug. 25. Canada has tentatively scheduled a pair of friendly matches while in Italy. The team travels to Dresden, Germany, Sept. 12 and will play Germany in an international friendly, Sept. 15.

The next day, Canada returns to Toronto and will play China in two international friendly matches (Sept. 26 and Sept. 30). The Canadians are tentatively scheduled to play South Africa in international friendlies, Oct. 9 and Oct. 13.

Canada travels to Cancun, Mexico, Oct. 15 and will be begin play in the World Cup Qualifiers Gold Cup, Oct. 27. Competition runs through Nov. 15.

Thanks to Vic, I went and found this. I was wondering how much detail was in the story - not much more than Vic's post (although the home friendlies against China sound more firm than against South Africa).

The odd part is the extreme discrepancy in the promotion of the men's games. These women's games are a month away and nada. There is not even an announcement. Perhaps we're back to 1982 and they'll play at a high school with nobody knowing about it.

When the CSA promised two women's home dates this year they did it under the guise of promoting our women to the country. I don't see that happening.

I just received an email from MLSE stating that my ticket stubs for the CMNT game are good for $5 off the CWNT game. Prices are lower for the high end seats for this game, but supporters' sections are the same $25 on ticketbastard.

Wish I could go, but a weeknight for Primary/Junior schoolage kids makes it impossible.
