"There was no downside. Our organization, with financial support from the province of British Columbia, and backing from the COC and Sport Canada, offered to host the event with no financial risk whatsoever to the CSA. We as a club decided to offer a lifeline.

"We would backstop the hosting of the Olympic qualifying tournament here. We would run it ourselves. Hopefully it would break even. But we were prepared to cover any and all losses," added Lenarduzzi.

Still surprised, but I get the feeling there's more than meets the eye. If anyone has any good intel on why that was turned down, please let people know.

Yep, it official -

http://www.concacaf.com/view_article.asp?id=4023

14.11.07 - At the conclusion of its Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday, CONCACAF announced that Mexico will host the 2008 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Final Round Qualification which will run from 2-13 April.

The six-team tournament will be held at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario in Chihuahua, Mexico with the top two teams qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

The 2008 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Final Round will include the defending champion, USA along with North Zone representatives Canada and Mexico, recently qualified Central American side Costa Rica, plus two teams from the Caribbean.

The Caribbean qualifiers will be decided from a pair of second round match-ups, as Puerto Rico meets Trinidad & Tobago and Cuba taking on Jamaica with the winners progressing to the CONCACAF Final Round.

Once all the teams are confirmed for the tournament, CONCACAF will stage a draw for the first round groups as well as unveiling the complete schedule of matches.

This the second CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Final Round with the last one held in Costa Rica with the USA and Mexico finishing first and second, respectively, and therefore qualifying to the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Now Pellerud have all it takes to have an excuse after the team is being eliminated by loosing to Mexico in hot conditions and trying to play kick and run....

Then, the players will say it's the CSA's fault for not getting the tournament, Coach Rich will confirm that while no one will held coach Pellerud accountable....

the statements you make have already been made by the team when it was announced by Barrett at the WWC that the CSA had turned the Qualifier down. Kind of easy to point out the obvious when it comes to the CSA.

Btw loyola, I'm confused but what WNT do you support as it doesn't seem like it's the Canadian team.

Criticizing the coach and players making excuses = Not supporting the team in your opinion?

With that kind of childish logic we should always believe what players/staff are telling us (whether it's Charmaine Hooper, Evan Pellerud or Christine Sinclair...). The same could apply to politicians, why ask questions, they are the ones in the "know"?

The only think i'm doing is questionning those excuses by bringing some facts and comparaison between teams that played in that WWC.

How can anyone believe that the CSA giving the responsiblity to run the event to Mr. Kerfoot for a guarantee .. shows any competency in all the staff the CSA has ?

The whole affair only highlights that individual staff are incapale of working in such and organisation, and of course the executive formed by provincial presidents is beyond its depth once again.

Does Kerfoot and Lenarduzzi run the CSA ?

If the CSA wanted someone in Canada to host ..put out a Request for Proposal ...to the provinces or indeed to anyone to say ..hey we could host an Olympic qualification event.. here are our economic criteria.. the rules that Concacaf...has re paying for teams etc...

Can you make us a proposal to run this event ... to make profit or not to do it for the spin off value etc.

Whats needed ..? four stadia three with 1500 seats and one with 10,00O or more ?

When is the event ? oh spring 2008.

Geez let me think Quebec City is celebrating the 400th Anniversary.. and the feds are dropping 400 million..yes million to celebrate it all year.. do they have the stadia ?

Well they have Pep stadium and i think they can fit mmm three other temporary stadia ..on the Plains of Abraham.. a hell of a lot better site for a tournament then the wilds of Surrey.

But hey the provincial presidents .. are choosen to run the association because they have solid experience and knowledge of Canada...
