Right. For the sake of everyone else, I'm done, and will let the topic return to normal.

/you're beyond weird.

Sorry you have been forced out a discussion....I tend to read these things from the bottom up and have had to read the posts in this discussion several times to find out why people are jumping all over you in this discussion....still can't find it....am I missing something?

The only thing we continually learn is that john tv is out of his mind.

All I am asking for is some support from anyone on this board in reference to the request and suggestion by the Toronto F.C club that we should consider singing or chanting. All i have read sofar is some crap about a typo. No support or even an acknowledgement. I guess i am out of my mind to even suggesting that that is a great idea. Anyone on this board who would like to support our team and respond to their suggestions at all please?

Again and again and again and again all I am asking for is some comments about the request by Tornto Fc in reference to their suggestion to us as supporters initiating this chanting and singigng stuff. I have not read any reply or any comment about that suggestion or request. So Danny baby please be the first after after me to responfd to that request etc from our team.

Now you are making some sense and I even like that answer. I guess we need a MLS team in Montreal asap. In fact I also love that idea, just to hear these guys sing their little hearts out.I know they will be fantastic and probably outdo the Toronto gang. What a great idea.

It is amazing that since I felt obligated to response to the suggestion from the Toronto F.C I am being attacked and I am sure if I would be standing in front of these guys physically attacke by simply asking to support the Toronto FCC in considering doing this chanting or singing bit.Ok here it is anyone wo disagrees with my efforts to support the Toronto F.C will be considered and I guess to put it mildly a traitor of Canadian soccer.

Jesus New York just scored!

To be very honest I never dreamed in my wildest dreams that I ever had to post this most revealing item. Mountains we have to climb over those we or I took for granted.

OK John I'll bite. The Toronto FC email is a very encouraging sign. The communication between the TFC and the supporters clubs and club members has been very friendly and very welcoming. Yes there will be singing and chanting aplenty next year at Toronto FC games, rain or shine. Many many people, including probably most of the people on this mb agree that this is a great idea. Toronto FC has informally indicated an interest in offering the supporters groups an on-site lock-up to keep flags, banners, drums etc. That means they want assist the 'fanatics'.

Toronto is full of fans of European/Latin soccer. They largely don't watch MLS. To turn these soccer fans into Toronto FC fans, one of the important things MLSE must do is to give them an authentic match atmosphere. Everything points to MLSE and MLS having grasped this fact, and the fact that they have to do this right the first time. Therefore do not expect music to be playing during play, or the stadium announcer to say "This corner kick is brought to you by Wendys" before the kick is taken. None of that quaint Americanism will surface here. Do expect plenty of crowd chanting though. Nobody that I know who is planning to attend has any intention of being embarrassed to make noise. Your guess is as good as mine as to how boisterous we'll be. MLSE want us to be the noisiest fans in the league and frankly I'm ectstatic to hear that, since most MLS teams seem not to grasp that their games have dull atmospheres. With a competitive team, a friendly front office that knows what its doing, and a positive match-day experience, I think Toronto FC has a chance to finally establish soccer on firm footing in Southern Ontario.

Thanks Gooner I really started to question the intend of those that I have addressed above. It is indeed mind boggling and for those that believe in the good old fun, these lack of enthousiasm and good old fun recognition made me feel like an outcast big time and that me?I sort of had given up and probably was thinking bringing in my own speakersystem and blare my own songs.

But I am honoured and delighted to have found somone of your stature who realized this is to crazy to be true, so thanks for your well thought through and reasoned response. Hey maybe a Gooner song, not gonner this time. Let us change the spirits that now exist at our pro sports venues and let us really enjoy life to it's fullest. believe me it is amazing fun. Thanks again and buy you a beer next time.

Damn, to think we have missed out on seeing and more importantly hearing this performance by johntv just because Real Gooner has restored his faith in the Toronto soccer fan. Thanks a lot Real Gooner! :(

Ive also received the email from TFC and I really hope that we will not see all the advertising garbage we see in other major sports because its getting overwhelming. What has been most annoying to me over the years is the naming of stadiums/arenas. Its too bad the days of calling major arenas by their real names and not the "Staples Center" or the Mellon Arena is gone. But I do hope also that the prices are as reasonable as they are stating because its horrid when seats at Leafs games are empty because some corporate tard who couldnt give a rats ass about the game doesnt show for his platinum seat. Thats a royal piss off.

I was also fortunate enough to attend a game in August in Stuttgart this year, VFB played Dortmund. It was my first European soccer game and it was nuts. The Supporters Sections were unreal. The Dortmund fans were fairly far away from where I sat in the general seating and the ground felt like it was shaking from the chanting. That was the away team. They made Canadian hockey fans look like the antiques roadshow.

You are next Grumpy!

Am I Grumpy, johntv? I guess Loud Mouth Soup must be Doc since he is apparently the leader of the Voyageurs anti-soccer faction. Who would Happy, Sleepy, Dopey, Bashful and Sneezy be? What is even more interesting is whether you are Snow White or the Wicked Witch. Seriously though John, isn't a grumpy person someone who takes themselves too seriously and can't even appreciate a bit of mild humour aimed in their direction.

It's funny grumpy that when I read that e-mail request I realized that what the suggested and asked us fans to do I also realized that this was some kind of revolutionary statement. I don't think any other major sport would suggest that. The type of sports we are use to simply don't allow to have that fun in the stands. These stoppages and or commercialism won't allow this to happen. A total new environment. So I was extremely happy and pleased to see this development.

I remember when the Toronto Blizzard played their first game at the Exhebition Stadium.

They tried to have cheerleaders and other hoopla during the game. Well Paul Morton the Presisdent of Global realized that this is not Football, basketball or hockey. I remember him running to the sidelines spoke to some people and the game bacame soccer again.

I guess I was tckled pink to see that request and suggestion and delighted to be part of sports history, believe you me. If this thing takes of it will be totally amazing. The Voyageurs can make sports history in Canada big time and i know very well a very powerfull tool to support your team.

I guess i am still to full of enthousiasm and trying to get that little dream come through.

Back to grumpy, hey one of the funniest movies was called Those Grumpy Old Men.

Sorry Alex, neighbour that is,I had to respond to Grumpy first, but I am delighted again to read your response.Yap it is a totally different world. Umpteen years ago I saw Holland play against Hungary.I had my hi fi stereo camera and was sitting among all these orange fans.It was amazing and still is. When I play that tape it is unreal and oh so powerfull.Just walking up to that stadium, all that Orange the singing and real fun, well I was a season ticket holder at the gardens and i never ever saw anything close to that.Yet when he Canadian Hockey team playes in Europe it seeems that we Canadians do know how to let our hair down. It is quite revealing. Weren't it the fans in Moscow that made the difference in Moscow in 1972.

i just hope that this stadium is large enough to keep the prices down and that we will see that family and or supporters thing. As i said there are no supporters groups in all of sports here as we know it in soccer. The Voyageurs sure abd the Red Patch Boys and others are changing the sporting image in Toronto and I hope big time. We need the excitement back in those stands.Capice

Got another email from TFC. These people are dead serious about making this team a HUGE success. Unbelievable. Here is the email in full:

---

Beginning October 26th and every Thursday in November from 8 - 9 PM, head coach Mo Johnston and player Jim Brennan will be hitting up local pubs to get to know our fans. This is your chance to get a photo, talk footie and grab a beer with the boys as they make their way around the city hitting the best soccer watering holes Toronto has to offer.

This week's location: LA CERVEJARIA at 842 College Street (College and Ossignton).

Toronto FC staff will also be on location to answer any questions you may have.

Stay tuned to find out where Mo and Jim will be next week...you never know, they just might show up in YOUR neighbourhood!

Mark your calendar for the next six Thursdays - we hope to see you at one of the events.

A quick reminder that we are close to going on sale to the public, so don't forget to get your family and friends to join the club and get the best seats available! Toronto FC is already 8th out of the 13 teams in the league in season ticket sales...and for a team that has yet to play a game, that shows that soccer is hot in this city. Join the club now!

Toronto FC

It certainly sounds like they are trying their best to market this thing, which is admirable. I only hope they do the same amount of homework on finding the right product on the field, too. How much of this can be done beforehand? They may need to delve into the annals of Toronto sports history to try and identify what Toronto soccer fans might want to see.

Will TO support a team that doesn't win, but nonetheless has the kinds of players that people admire or can relate to?

Is it possible that this team could be winning but still not selling enough tix because of the bland on-field product made up of unknowns?

How important will it be to have diversity in the non-Canadians in the roster, and not only Americans?

Will it help the team to have a couple of the higher profile black Canadians on the roster, or will that not matter at all?
