jonovision
Marcel de Jong starts (I think for the first time this season), at wingback, in Helmond Sport's 3-0 win over Fortuna Sittard in the Dutch Gouden Gids Divisie (2nd tier).
canadiankick97
He scored the third goal in that game!
jonovision
It seems like de Jong had himself quite the match. He set up the first goal, while the report on the 3rd, which he scored, reads: "Het slotakkoord kwam echter van de beste man aan Helmondse zijde. Marcel de Jong (als linksachter geposteerd) onderschepte een pass van Ronald Dassen, passeerde de ex HS-speler vervolgens, om daarna met een schitterend schot vanaf 25 meter af te ronden (88' ;3-0)." -- The closing goal came from the best man of the Helmond squad. Marcel de Jong, listed as a left back, intercepted a pass from Ronald Dassen, and then passed by the ex-Helmond man, and finished it off with a scintillating shot from 25 meters. youllneverwalkalone
Stalteri, Radzinski, Brennan, Peters, DeVos, Bircham are all in the starting eleven today. Hume and Simpson are on the bench. Serioux is nowhere to be found.
canuck-fan
Hume has come on in the 76th minute of the Leicester v Sheffield Wednesday match. The game is 2-0 to Leicester at the time.
MikeD
In the SPL - Rhian Dodds got a rare start for Kilmarnock because of a last minute injury to Gary Locke and scored in the 8th minute. Killie went on to defeat Dunfermline 3-2. Nice going young Rhian! Richard Hastings was a sub not used in Inverness CT's 2-1 loss to Motherwell. At least he's back from his injury, but he doesn't seem to have regained his place in the starting 11 yet.
Gian-Luca
It would be nice to see Rhian Dodds given a look (actually on the field this time) against Luxembourg. Stalter went 90 as Spurs drew Liverpool 0-0. He looked pretty good once again, though crossing remains the weakest part of his game.
youllneverwalkalone
He did get some praise for his work with Lennon. Looks like Jol has lots of faith in him.
Gian-Luca
Radz helped set up McBride for Fulham's goal in their 1-1 draw against Michael Owen & Newcastle. He had a few chances to score before getting subbed out at minute 70. De Vos & Peters go 90 but Ipswich lose again, this time to division leaders Sheffield United (no sign of Ryan Gyaki yet of course in the first team but the way they are playing it doesn't sound like they need to dip into their reserve pool to grab 20 year olds very much). Brennan plays 90 as Norwich win 2-0 over Plymouth. Millwall remain in last place in the Championship losing 2-1 at home. Simpson came on in the 82nd minute, Serioux not dressed, which seems remarkable given how he played against Spain that Millwall can't use him at all given what a crappy year they are having. jonovision
Michael Klukowski started and played 90 minutes in defence for Club Brugge who were 2-1 winners at home to Sint Truiden.
MikeD
Brennan apparently played this match in midfield for Norwich, which is an interesting development.
MikeD
Also, Marc Bircham played his usual 90 minutes as QPR got a 1-1 away draw with Southampton.
youllneverwalkalone
Begovic didn't make the bench for La Louviere today. Makes me wonder what he's doing there. Playing reserve football in England would be better for him IMO. Or how about starting in League One or Two?
Guest Can. in UK
Radzinski should have scored two today. He had a couple of decent chances (which he created with his pace) but did not put them away.
CanadianSoccerFan
quote:Originally posted by MikeD Brennan apparently played this match in midfield for Norwich, which is an interesting development. Brennan has been playing in the midfield since the Leeds match. I just got back from Norwich recently and I can tell you that Brennan has been playing well. For the Leeds and Stoke matches the Norwich papers rated him 2nd behind Moroccan international Youseff Safri. At the Leeds match he very nearly scored twice. Guest Ed
Clinic by San Jose tonight as they lead the only team they haven't beaten this season Chivas LA 3-0. Pwamme leads the league in assists, now with 12, setting up all 3 goals.
Guest Jeffery S.
Friend played 90 for Molde, who lost to Valeranga 3-1. Grande played 65 and was subbed off with a yellow card, as Viking had a good match and beat Rosenborg 3-2. Fernandes on the bench for Paok, who drew 2-2 vs. a weak Greek league team. I think their regular keeper is not too strong so far and he may get a start soon.

Blue and White Army
Hampton & Richmond Borough 3 Witham Town 0 FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round - Saturday 10th September "A sweet move that had Elliott Godfrey and Boosey linking up was ended with Lawrence Yaku`s delicate flick from close range over the Witham goalkeeper for Hampton`s second goal. Four minutes before half time and the game was virtually over when the third goal went in. It was another header at the far post, Godfrey chipping the ball over from the bye-line, Yaku imperiously nodding the ball in then pausing awhile to milk the applause." "The second half could have produced more goals, Godfrey and Yaku both went close, Boosey fired wide and then Elverson did ever so well in connecting with a dropping ball on the volley, the ball flashing narrowly wide of an upright. The abiding image left of the game was of Godfrey controlling the ball with his head, then surrounded by defenders, heading the ball in the air twice more before laying off a pass to one of his colleagues." Loud Mouth Soup
Give McKenna the hat trick, 4-2 Cottbus. Wow. 3 for Big Kev.
sstackho
Was this Peters first full 90 in a first-team professional match?
Gian-Luca
I think so.
MikeD
In addition to the McKenna hat trick, Tam Nsaliwa started for Saarbrucken against Aachen and was subbed off in 58' with his team down 3-0. Final score 4-0 for Aachen. Saarbrucken are dead last in Bundesliga 2 with an 0 points in 4 matches, 0 goals for and 16 goal against. Ouch. Looks like they're on a trip to relegation-ville unless they turn things around. Daniel Imhoff's Bochum host Hansa Rostock in the Sunday match later today.
