We can't commit an A squad to this because we may need to play qualifiers for the W Gold Cup.

The #CanWNT have never made any comments about this ( aka "hoopla") as far as I know. They understand the situation.

I have only seen internet posters (and some media) complain about this situation.

I think it's because they had no case to make once the broader facts are known.

The OP didn't make a stink about Basketball Canada pulling out of the 5x5 tournaments. Only the Women's 3x3 team will compete and could likely be a developmental squad (much as is being done for Rugby 7s.

Outside of those sports and Softball, the team sports Canada is involved in serve as Olympic qualifiers.
