I can never really tell if Doyle genuinely wants Canada to succeed, or if he's just mocking us / setting us up. Maybe it's a little of both.

Replace "mocking" with "pandering" and I feel the same way.

Even if he is pandering to us though, it's still nice to get the coverage.

Back to 32 teams now: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/may/22/2022-world-cup-in-qatar-to-remain-a-32-team-tourament-fifa-announce-48-teams

It would be great if we could qualify again before we host, decreases the ods. No excuses.

It's pretty funny, no one but FIFA was really interested in a 48 team shared tournament but FIFA persisted and tried to pressure v the Middle East countries to accept it - didn't work so now they have to backtrack.

The best part about it was the arrogance to think that they could work around the diplomatic and logistical issues! Qatar is literally being blockaded by SA, UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait (they are technically neutral, but actually on the side of the blockade). FIFA can just walk in and convince Qatar and Kuwait to co-host LOL. Qatar airways has to fly an extra two hours around the airspace to get home. Not to mention Kuwait is a dry country, with the infrastructure of a developing country. As someone who has lived there, it is also probably the last place anyone would want to vacation in the whole world. Oman was actually feasible as a co-host, as they are actually neutral and have benefited during the blockade by shipping to Qatar and Iran. But again a country with one stadium that could meet the grade, and they are not nearly as oil wealthy like the rest of the region, and could not afford to pour money into it.
