DJT
quote:Originally posted by Daniel This forum should also be bumped above the TFC/MLS forum, IMO. Agreed. I think it was there originally and got moved (probably accidentally)? Either way, I've moved it up. quote:Originally posted by nazzer http://www.whitecapsfc.com/tickets/season/ This link leads to the Whitecaps webpage. If you look on the left under the 'tickets' there is something called "Canada Cup". I'm not sure but it seems as though they are referring to the tournament that involves Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto. I don't see a link entitled Voyageurs cup on the teams website. So maybe we should call the forum the actually name of the Cup, and that seems to be Canada Cup. As I mentioned before, I think it should be named as I've set it: both "Voyageurs Cup" (because regardless of what the tournament is officially named, we are going to award the Voyageurs Cup to the winner, so regardless of whatever else it is, it is also the Voyageurs Cup) and the official name of the tournament. At this point, the tournament has not been officially (through a press release) named anything and has been referred to only as a "competition [...] to determine Canada’s 2008-09 entry in the new CONCACAF Champions League". piltdownman
Not only is the name "Canada Cup" on the Whitecaps website, but its on the tickets. For me that official enough.

Winnipeg Fury
Considering Vancouver has yet to win the Voyageurs Cup, it's not surprising. Piltdownman, have you contacted the Whitecaps to lobby them ? Every Voyageur that attends matches at Swangard should be calling the club.
Winnipeg Fury
I have just got off the phone with Bob Lenarduzzi, who has assured me the Canada Cup is nothing more than a generic name at this point. The real decision is coming quickly.......
Cashcleaner
^ So we still might have a shot at Voyageurs Cup? Interesting if possible...
redhat
Guys if we the Voyageurs want to be taken seriously, we should press our particular favourite clubs and the CSA to adopt the "Voyageurs Cup" name for this tournament. It is a fans' championship, with the winner as Canada's rep to the CONCACAF Club Championship. It has the same intent as the "Supporters' Shield" in the UK, in my opinion. Rumour right now is that they want a different name, including one that would celebrate a sports writer. Are we going to let them destroy a tradition that Canada's soccer fans - The Voyageurs - have started?

Knowing that would help concentrate our efforts.

Winnipeg Fury
The decision will be made by the three clubs and the CSA. There are a number of options on the table.
Free kick
quote:Originally posted by redhat Rumour right now is that they want a different name, including one that would celebrate a sports writer. That would be slap in the face. With a corporate sponsor you can always say that they went for the $$$ and at least that would be consistent. But by choosing the name of a sportswriter over Voyaguers, then what does that say about what they know about the Voyageurs.
Daniel
I'd put the [Note...] forum description part on a separate line.
Daniel
Maybe bring the "Voyageurs Cup 2008 and Beyond" thread here. Vancouver announcer calls the tourny the Voyageurs Cup during the USL1 Van-MTL game.
tovan
This is hypothetical, but IF TFC rumours are true and Kluivert and Tebily sign then its safe to say goodbye Impact and Whitecaps... I honestly don't think the Whitecaps and Impact can match the quality that TFC would have with those signings: Kluivert, Tebily, Robert, Guevara, Ricketts, etc vs. Nash, Sebrango, etc vs. Braz, Gervais, Leduc, etc They have already improved considerably on paper with the Robert, Guevara, and Ricketts signings so with the addition of these two I think they would be a lock to win the Canada Cup. Anyways, this is all hypothetical and counting on some pretty big IFs.
