Are you talking about this: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-02-01/fifa-blocks-20-million-in-payments-to-scandal-ridden-groups

<quote>FIFA has blocked $20 million in funding to the organizations that oversee soccer in the Americas, dealing yet another blow to the confederations at the center of a sprawling U.S. corruption case.

"In light of current proceedings involving individuals related to Conmebol and Concacaf, FIFA has put contributions towards these two confederations on hold until further notice," the global soccer regulator said in an e-mailed statement to Bloomberg News. "We are currently assessing further steps to be taken to increase the level of assurance which may again enable FIFA to release such funds in the future."</quote>

What is ironic about this is that there is probably exponentially degrees more corruption in the Asian and African confedreations, but they did not use US banks to launder the money discovered by the US Justice department. Nor is the corruption from the Euro confederation and member associations yet uncovered. However, there is no defence that "we were caught, but the others are not".

And to have FIFA wagging their finger at some of their confederates must leave a bitter taste in many mouths.

It appears to me that only the US seemed to have the willpower to go after this. Other countries and federations have done little to nothing.

So, if you are corrupt and didn't do any transactions through the US banking system, you are probably safe for a while.

The real outcome here is a bunch of corrupt officials are going to be replaced with other corrupt officials; and the new FIFA president can rely on Asia and Africa to stay onto power just like Sepp did.
