Ontairo Pdl Cup

Now if Vancouver, Victoria and Abbotsford could organize a Western PDL Cup.....

It would seem to me one of the reasons for this is that Ottawa, Thunder Bay and London and are all in different divisions of the PDL, so if they didn't do this they wouldn't play each other. All three BC teams are in the same division already so whats the incentive?

Also, really stupid question here, buut who is the Toronto team in this?

Great stuff by Ontario PDL teams. Love the idea. This is another step towards a fourth entry to compete for the Voyageurs Cup. Any more information on the competion?

I agree, this actually could and should be the qualifying rounds into the Voyageurs Cup. Winner gets in as the 4th team. US PDL teams can win their Open Cup, why not the Canadian ones?

Chill earn Victoria Cup

The Thunder Bay Chill came into their final game of the Victoria Challenge Cup undefeated, and after 90 minutes of play, that is how they finished.

Beating the Toronto Lynx 2-0, The Chill completed the weekend with the best win-loss record after round robin play, and secured the title of champions of the inaugural Victoria Challenge Cup.

After fighting hard in a come back win against FC London on Saturday, the Chill entered Sunday’s final match with the goal of earning keeper Steven Paterson his first shut out of the season, and they did just that.

An early strike in the 10th minute by Marcos Silva took the pressure off the defence and allowed the Chill to set the tone for the game.

The Chill never let the Toronto Lynx get into the game, and their offensive pressure paid off with a piece of fantastic individual skill by Christian Fernandes, when he took the ball around the Lynx keeper with relative ease and placed it in the back of the net.

The goal in the 70th minute put the Chill up by two, which ensured that the Chill would end the weekend with the tournament’s best record.

Head Coach Tony Colistro said he is proud of the effort his team put forth this weekend and is enjoying the teams’ great start in the preseason.

"It is nice to boast the rights to the top PDL team in Ontario," he said. "But we still have work to do and will look to improve ahead of next weekend’s games."

The Thunder Bay Chill still have two preseason games left against the Son’s of Italy, a club side from Winnipeg.

The games are scheduled for Saturday May 23 at 7:30 p.m, and Sunday May 24 at 1 p.m, both at Chapples Park, Thunder Bay.

The Chill’s reserve squad will also be featured this weekend, hosting the Winnipeg Phoenix on Saturday at 5 p.m., and again on Sunday at 11 a.m. Both games also at Chapples Park.

Congratulations to the Thunder Bay Chill. It would only be appropriate that they won this inaugural tournament. They are the PDL champions and it would have been a little embarassing to have lost. It would appear they are the most prepared for the coming season. It is unfortunate that this tournament could not have been played over the July Canada day holiday, thus allowing all the teams to have played for part of the season and have all their college players available. Hopefully this tournament may spread and The whitecaps and Victoria and Abbotsford of British Columbia may join in and make it a Canadian championship or start up a new tournament to encompass all the Canadian teams,

[Game of soccer runs and hides at mere mention of Toronto and Montreal on the field with PDL teams]

I guess if people in ancient Rome used to go to the arena to see humans decapitated and disemboweled there is a likelihood people would attend games like this, but I like to think we have become more civilized than bloodsport and thrillkill.

Take it you're not a big fan of the early rounds in the FA Cup then?

;)
