Robert
The theme of this thread is the clock that's ticking away in regard to a stadium the CSA promised to build in exchange for the right to host the 2007 FIFA WYCs. Some Voyageurs are apparently in denial over the possiblity of this stadium not getting built. Aside from the implications this would have on the 2007 Championship, in what kinda of light would FIFA view Canada as a result of this in the future? Not a very favourable one I'm afraid. Kevan's job is indeed on line over this issue, and I for one will not relent in seeing that this will indeed result in the end of Mr. Pipe's involvement in any CSA capacity if things do fail! Those of you that feel offended by my position, feel free to waste your time, or if your capable listening to the wisdom of Krammerhead's suggestion that would be even better. Robert
September 2nd already, and still no official words from the CSA. Wasn't there an announcement promised towards the end of July? Kevan Pipe must have given up on the idea of having a stadium built in Toronto. How Pipeish! Only 665 days left before the biggest soccer tournament ever to be hosted in Canada is slated to start. That is of course if FIFA lets us keep it.

This actually pleases me....the longer it takes the more likely it is that they will come to their senses and realize that they can produce a +/- 15,000 seat stadium more quickly and efficiently by upgrading Lamport (see my other post). beachesl
Well, since some have been offended, I deleted the gif. I'm sorry , it wasn't my purpose to offend, just to deal with the issue and some of the discussion in a mildly amusing way. I should say that it could in no way be classed as pornographic, and it is debatable whether a featureless artoon character bludeoning himself with a computer is violent. TOareaFan
Thanks for deleting it......I do find the blood splattering to be unnecessarily violent (I think it is a very disturbing trend in modern media that we are hiding otherwise unacceptable images/content behind animation)...as for the poronography....I do not think it is an accident that the person created the image to end up in the shape of the male reporductive organ (and before you say "that is just you" I have now shown it to to 4 other people for their opinion and they reach the same conclusion). May I suggest if a topic does not interest you, or infuriates you, don't enter the discussion. The topic name cleary indicates what this thread is about...entering it and then getting mad about the content seems like a waste of your own time. Johnnie Monster
Great laugh during the Vancouver v. Toronto broadcast on TEAM 1040 AM.... Vancouver's guys interviewed the OSA's technical director at halftime..... To paraphrase: "Any word on where the new stadium is going?" "I really don't know. We haven't heard anything</u>. Nobody knows!" I roll on the floor laughing hysterically when I think back to all those Toronto MLS-boosters insisting that an announcement was "just a few days away!" because the guys on Sportsnet said so. Wasn't that a month and a half ago?

I found the animation to be quite funny, and almost indicative of the frustration we may have seeing countdown posts about nothing. Like as if WYC2007 would be cancelled if not held in TO... But I respect TOarea Fan's opinions and his sensitivities.

No, actually, spend a fair amount of time surfing the net and find it fun and informative. I just prefer it when "stuff" stays in its appropriate place. A chat about a soccer stadium, as I said before, is no place for a blood splattering image of a 'person' decaying into the form of a penis.....cartoon or not. It might be funny/appropriate elsewhere at another time, I just don't think it is here and now.

Thanks for the final comment, I do think, as I said before, if you find posts about the countdown to WCY2007 as it relates to the CSA/Toronto stadium issue to be "frustrating" then you are best off not clicking on the link that will clearly take you to such a discussion. Seems to me that you bring that frustration on yourself when you click on that link.
analyst
Robert, thank you for creating this clock and for keeping it up to date. Despite the CSA's recent silence, after its previous PR fiasco's and all its unfulfilled promises, I'm sure the CSA have been working on the Toronto stadium. Andy Sharpe was hard at work on the Toronto stadium when he was at Swangard Stadium last week to watch the womens game.
Cheeta
I think we can pretty much write off this year as far as any construction goes so that changes a lot of things. The CSA has the whole of the winter to choose a site now. ABSOLUTELY secure their funding because heaven knows, the longer you wait to snatch those moneys from the goverment's hand the more likely it is the conditions and amounts pledged are likely to change. And maybe get somemore bodys involved in the venture and deepen their capitol while reducing future operating costs. Dangerous game though. Tight time frames. What was looking like a sound National Stadium is everyday more turning into something being built a little more on the cheap and quick. But given the burns of Varsity and York, when the CSA knows, they'll know. And besides, the longer this stadium issue dangles the longer MLS Toronto a.k.a. MLSE dangles. One small benefit. redhat
quote:Seems to me that you bring that frustration on yourself when you click on that link. It's only frustrating because Robert keeps bumping the thread up with "no news" comment. Until your post, I've refused/refrained from posting or commenting. It's like you're on a road trip and your yappy kids keep saying "are we there yet? are we there yet?" every 5 kilometres. Frustrating yes. Just ignore it? Verrry hard to do so. "That's it! Funny analogy....if "where is our stadium" is the equivalent of "are we there yet", then going back to Winnipeg (read: Lamport) is what I have been advocating!
