I do appreciate the blitzkrieg- offense style of Arsenal. They have the talent, but more importantly the athletes who can run the full 90 to be such an offensive juggernaut. Henry should be the player of the year, with perhaps Ronaldhino as only legitimate competition. If another Real Madrid player wins it, then the competition is a farce.

Though about Arsenal, can't seem to figure out why they become wallflowers when it comes to european competition?

I agree with your comment. It's important to note that although they rely on a central midfielder for a defensive style, they use the entire width of the pitch for attack. They can come at you from all different directions, and at rarely faced angles. They also really utilize the left side of the pitch equally as the center and right.

Henry is Henry. Calm, graceful, powerful, fast, strategic, tricky, what else can you say?

Ronaldinho is also something very special to watch though. He is easily included in the most exciting players to watch. Sometimes you don't notice him and then you can almost see something brilliant start - and carry on. Four embarrassed defensemen and a stunned goalie later....

What a sticky game. Maybe a card or two earlier on and a whole bunch less whistles and warnings. I'm surprised the ref didn't give a few "time-outs" to some over zealous players.

(Good side of me:) Well the streak had to end somewhere, and who better than the formidable talent of ManU. Wonderful game, jolly-ho! Great effort with some wonderful passing, etc...

(Bad side:) What a load of bollocks. The ref was trigger shy yet stifling at the same time. Rooney dove like an Argentinian (no offence, but it happens) Ruud is a idiot whining diving cheater who aims to hurt but get away with it! Ronaldo is a true triple threat - dancing, acting, and singing. He would do great in an off-broadway show! Of all freakin teams to not score a goal against! ManU! They should be called Man-whores instead! Bloody red devils! Bleeding Sods!

Oh well, uh, 49 games unbeaten is great. Still top of the table. Cheers mates.

Listened to the game on Southampton internet radio. Seems your lot needed all kinds of help from the officials to get the business done today and steal a point from saints. Phantom penalty that was thankfully missed, Henry apparently offside on his go ahead goal, and your tieing goal came in the 4th minute of the 2 minutes to be added on (eh, wait a second!). Can hardly wait to see the hi-lites! Maybe the Saints aren't doomed to relegation!

Phanton penalty? Please...and Thierry was onside-Higginbotham made the mistake of sinking deep on the left while the other three defenders tried to move the line up. As for 4th minute of extra time for the goal? Uh...no. And I watched the match, so I can say that with a little more confidence than someone who listened to it on Southampton radio...

you know what, i think if a player is off-side, he's off-side. BUT, as the rule reads now if an attacking player isn't interferring (sp?) then he isn't off-side. WELL, if a defender is not involved in the play then an attacking player should be able to be called in an off-side position!

it's like in the NFL when a player dives and only the ball crosses the line it's a touchdown. but, if a wide receiver catches the ball in the endzone but is flying through the air it is only a touchdown if his feet touch. well, what is the difference between catching it inbounds while in the air and landing out and diving and only getting the ball over the line!?

do you guys see my point? the inconsistencies are completely contradictory!

Ha! You know andy, I've seen you post with your PUP signiture and I've though to myself, "I wonder if I should make some smart alecy remark about how the team you support have been in lower leagues vs Saints for most of the last half century, how Saints smacked you around last year, etc" but since I am a born and bred Canuck I don't have any of the historical anger towards your team. In fact, I've pulled for P*mpey to stay up as it seems to be a great rivalry with Saints.

Although I will admit that Yakubu seems to have a real strikers instinct, you gotta agree with me that he looks "awkward". Looks clumsy, slow, overweight. But there he goes scoring goals.

And Saints aren't going down (although I admit I had real worries at the beginning of the year). Next week we'll take three points from west Brom and we'll be on our way.

Hey! There will be no bantering about Pompey or Saints unless it is somehow either insulting or complimentary to the Gunners! So please add necessary comments before or after (or even in the middle of sentences) to at least make your inferior team ramble relevant to this thread.

Thank you! (I would like to add on of those little happy face people pictures here but I don't know how!)

Yes, yes, youllneverwalkalone, the din of silence is eerie. The flabby form of the Gunners must be worrying, losing to a 'Pool squad minus its top two strikers, though the return of Steveie Gerard certainly helps some.

Yeah, where was the stink when the Gunners drew WBA at Highbury?[:0] I mean this is West Brom, dregs, bottom feeders, basically the chum of the EPL.

Dude, I was in a silent state of anger...not to mention stink. It was a full-fledged funk, even.

Well, this sunday should show the mettle of Wenger's boys. The En-ger-land sub classico, Chelski-Arse at Highbury. (i figure the full-on hate between Man U-Arsenal gives this matchup classico status). I don't think 2-1 will be the final score this time.

Speaking of Wenger, he's looking downright cadaverous these days. Could the idea of playing Cygan in the back four be that harmful to his health? Or is it the realisation that Lehmann is more 'layman' then Superstar?

And since I am rambling on about managers, is Fergie slowly being succumbed by syphillis? Maybe all that thought of horse spunk last year is beginning to erode his brain.

And for those who could quite frankly care less about Arsenal-Chelsea, this weekend has some cool derbies: 'Pool v. Everton and Villa v. Birmingham. I'd like to see the pornographers win one over Villa, mainly because they've had such bad luck this year.

I would love to see the Blues beat Villa (Yecchh, Spit!). My family actually has a Birmingham claim to fame. My Grandad actually accidently burn down a good section of the stands at the Birmingham Stadium during WWII! We all joke about it, but he was actually quite tramatized, and he never really lived it down.

Anyway, I see Arsenal beating Chelski this weekend. Even if they've only beaten a couple of 'B' teams this last week - they're still riding a little momentum. Chelski got beat by the very club they stripped of all its Champions league winning talent and strategy. Does anyone think Mourinho let this one go as a little present to Porto. Chelsea was already qualified weren't they? Did this win not let Porto finish second?

Common. Not a chance! Porto did end up finishing second but only because PSG lost to CSKA>

from the Guardian's Rumour Mill:

Sulky shot-stopper Jens Lehmann has been accused of leaving his Arsenal goalkeeping rival Manuel Almunia feeling isolated after being displaced by the young Spaniard for Arsenal's last three games. "I don't want to speak any more about things. I can't speak and I don't want to speak," said Lehmann, speaking to the Mirror.:D

I'd get rid of him in a second! He's an extremely OK goal keeper. He's good, no arguments about that. But there's more than a few good goalies around. I think Almunia could fill his shoes easily.

Hey Frostman, your wish has come true:D:D Once again the BLUES have defeated the scum!! What a wonderful day[^] Sorensons error of Encklemanian proportions was a joy to behold!

And yes being a BLUE-NOSE I've heard about your Grandad's unique firefighting technique. (That was gasoline in the bucket, not water);)

Nope. Need to get your vision checked. Maybe a draw was the most deserving result as I didn't see either team dominating the match. The first half was entertaining, but the second was rather dull. The image of a sulking/brooding Lehmann was rather funny to watch.

Well, Arse in third, behind a shocking Everton - the very same team Radzinski left because, strangely, 'it was going nowhere'.

Has anyone got the goods on this Mickael Essien from Ghana (plays currently on Lyon)? Looks like the Gunnars now need to reinforce the mid with all the injuries and uncertain contracts. But 16 million pound?! Am I that EPL centric that I don't know about a 16 million pound prospect in Ligue Un? Is 16 mill a standard price these days? I knew who Reyes was (mostly from the emails where he got his onions bitten by his team-mate as part of the goal celebration in Seville)

Anyway, back to the question. Who is Essien?
