sstackho
In the Korea - USA match, Paraguay scored. I thought the Korea match was up first. Well, Paraguay scoring over Germany isn't great for us, but Group F's scenarios are so farfetched that it should make little difference anyway. But at the moment, it means Germany is out. If current results stand: Group A FT 0 United Arab Emirates 0 Burkina Faso FT 1 Slovakia 0 Panama Group B FT 3 Argentina 1 Mali FT 1 Spain 0 Uzbekistan Group C FT 2 Brazil 3 Australia FT 1 Canada 0 Czech Republic Group D 45' 0 Colombia 0 England 11:30am 0 Egypt EST Fr 0 Japan Group E 45' 0 Saudi Arabia 0 Côte d'Ivoire 11:30am 0 Ireland Republic EST Fr 0 Mexico Group F 11:30am 0 Korea Republic EST Fr 0 United States 45' 0 Germany 1 Paraguay Round of 16 would be: Burkina Faso Canada Korea Republic Spain Côte d'Ivoire/Ireland Republic Egypt Australia Japan Colombia United Arab Emirates Brazil Slovakia Paraguay Ireland Republic/Côte d'Ivoire Argentina United States
sstackho
58th minute, and Paraguay notches a second. Now if they score another, and the US or Korea put three in themselves, we're in! No other goals to report. Still looking OK for Canada.
Guest Dave
80 m looking good bothmatches. I take it that if paraguay doesn't score again we can forget that group, right?
sstackho
Correct. If Paraguay doesn't score, then we will be tied with Germany in points and +/-, but they will have scored one more goal.

sstackho
C'mon results... show FT, please show FT.... Woo-hoo, there's two FTs! Come on, Ivory Coast, still showing 90'.... Great time for the FIFA match page to go down... Woo-hoo! FT! So it comes down to this. Canada needs Mexico to draw or lose to Ireland, OR it needs Egypt to beat Japan. Either result, and we're in. Group F is irrelevant. I recalculated my probabilities. If anyone can find betting lines on these matches, I could update it to realistic probabilities. Group D The probability that Japan loses is 37.5%. Group E The probability that Mexico do not win is 62.5%. Group F The 3rd place team in Group F will finish ahead of Canada. Probability of Canada qualifying The probability that Canada qualifies via Group D results is 37.5%. The probability that Canada qualifies via Group E results is 62.5%. The probability that Canada qualifies via either group's results is 37.5% + 62.5% - 37.5% * 62.5% = 76.6%.

Jarrek
Group D Columbia - England DRAW 0-0 FT Egypt - Japan If Japan lose and England do not win - Canada are in All other scenarios - Canada finishes behind Group D 3rd place finisher Group E Saudi Arabia - Ivory Coast DRAW 0-0 FT Ireland - Mexico If neither Mexico nor Saudi Arabia win - Canada are in All other scenarios - Canada finishes behind Group E 3rd place finisher Looking good for Canada thus far ... Alberto
the only chance for Canada is the japan vs Egypt game Egypt must win Ireland must win or tie Mexico These are the only groups as it stands right now I believe for canada to get in Group f has been decided the winner of the USA and Korea will go thru

Gordon
So we know that the 3rd Place finisher of Group F will be in no matter the outcome of the second game, but we are still in and swinging in the other 2 groups. Can't be complaining - Group F was an out and out longshot at best.
Alberto
Its too bad I had a the press holding for the USA result putting Canada thru with ADU oh well so far Im 2 - 1 in my choices but i know there would be alot of ties still usa will beat korea 3 - 0 and unforuantley the JApan Egypt game will Draw as I mentioned but I think that if anything a result may come favourable for Canada out of the ireland group "I think Ireland will have the upper hand in this one may hold Mexico to a draw 1 - 1 or a 2 - 1 result but still a draw is th most likely to happen and will probalby be the outcome there. MAny ties still to come I hope the mexico is one of them!

I am very surprised of the upset and germany may be going home with te result of this morning if korea wins by only 1 goal and or if usa wins by 2 there are cooked somethng msut of happen in this game I find quite disturbing though oh well I would have prefereed the win by germany this morning to give Canada another chance in anothe rgorup Its left to d and e now
sstackho
The problem with Egypt - Japan is that both teams are through with a draw or a Japan win. Japan are out if they lose, unless they score a boatload of goals in the process. The other match isn't as bad. Both teams qualify if Mexico win, but at least they have to score a goal. Alberto
Unforunatley that is the likey thing to happen, they will all play for a draw don't be surprised if in all the games remaining the will all tie as I mentioned now that germany lost to paraguay but still rooting for ADU to score in the 43rd minute of the 2nd half making it 3 - 0 for the states. The only problem then Germany will be going home I THINK as they lost to korea in ther first match so I think korea will advance. Is this right if they are tied in points and + - is that the first critera or is a flip
sstackho
Tiebreakers within a group are Points, +/-, goals scored and then it looks to head-to-head results. But I don't give a rat's ass about Group F.

Varsity Tyler
An interesting note: we're sitting here cheering for Egyptian or Irish results.
