So, we have:

Canada

Spain

Ireland Republic/Colombia

Australia/United Arab Emirates

Japan

Brazil

United States

Argentina

Livescore lists that Colombia beat Ireland 3-2 in ET, after leading

2-0. As well, Australia is eliminated by the hosts, UAE, 1-0.

So it's: CAN-ESP, COL-UAE, JPN-BRA, and USA-ARG...

Hope Sportsnet will show our game ...

Ireland was behind 2-0 until 83' and 90' strikes put them level. There were only 6 minutes of ET left when Colombia scored. A real shame--one would think that momentum would have been with them going into ET but, you know, the ball is round.

Rooting for the US and Canada now. An all-CONCACAF final--that oughta make for some worried faces around the Darkest Chambers of FIFA...

Weird isn't it? Three from South America (BRA, ARG, COL),

two from CONCACAF (CAN,USA), two from ASIA (UAE, JPN), and

only one from Europe (ESP). You can't really make any conclusions,

but it's just weird that GER, IRE, or even AUS are not going through.

But especially since the teams that traditionally do better on a youth level, such as Brazil, Spain, Argentina, are through and could do damage. And any of those could be considered to be missing more and more important players due to club committments (Diego and Robinho for Brazil, Tevez for Argentina, Fernando Torres, Reyes, and both usual keepers (Valdes and Reina) for Spain).

Actually, since the Argentine-season was essentially over before this tourney began (Boca had the title clinched), Argentina were able to assemble a pretty-strong side (including Fernando Cavenaghi who seems to be dominating more in this competition than he does in the Argentine league - which should tell you something about the oppostion).... That;s why I think Argentina is way out of everyone else's league in this tournament.... hmmm... I just don't think Argentina is missing that many players... except for TEVEZ.

Like I said - its fun to watch, but common!! Is this tourney telling us that Burkina Faso is producing better (or even remotely comparable) young players than England and Czech Republic?
