Atiba Hutchinson played the second half of a 1-0 friendly victory for PSV at 1. Bundesliga side Nurnberg.

saksson, Maza, Vukovic (46, Marcelo), Toivonen (78, Pieters), Lens (64, Amrabat), Koevermans (64, Berg), Wuytens (85, Labyad), Bouma (78, Nijland), Dzsudzsák (85, Ojo), Manolev en Bakkal (46, Hutchinson).

To me, that looks as close to a first-choice lineup as you'll see in a friendly, so don't be surprised to see Atiba coming off the bench to start the season.

Adam Straith was a 64th minute substitute for Energie Cottbus in a 1-0 loss to Regionalliga side Preussen Munster.

Do our German observers expect Straith to get as many minutes as last year, or was that mostly the result of injuries?

Straith got his chance when a player was injured for Cottbus. However, that player was one of their better midfielders who they moved to right back. Once Straith showed he could do the job, they moved the other guy back to mid so his time was earned on merit not injuries. However, he has a bit more competition this year at defence. Cottbus' captain and starting CB was the only starting defender to leave this year.

They signed a promising CB from Borussia Dortmund's 3rd division reserve team, a Japanese left back from Maritimo in Portugal and a German right back from FC Midtjylland.

^ Was Borgault playing for Munster?

Don't know. I got my info from the Cottbus site which only listed lineups for their team. Munster's site doesn't have anything posted yet.

Actually the lineups listed were the starting lineups so Bourgault started. They only thing they didn't list were the Munster substitutions so it is not clear whether he played 90 minutes or not.

The most interesting news is that JLL played the second half and kept a clean sheet as the Munster goal was scored in the 1st half before either he or Straith were on the pitch.

Friendlies:

-Jackson played well (started and then subbed outmin 63) in a 2-1 friendly victory for Norwich over Newcastle:

"Norwich boss Paul Lambert has made seven signings to prepare his side for life back in the Championship and fielded the six fit ones yesterday. The most impressive of them was Simeon Jackson, brought in from Gillingham where he scored 18 goals last season. Expect him to add to his growing reputation this term."

-Haber started and played the first half of a 1-0 WBA preseason victory over Bristol Rovers

-Edgar played the second half (subbed for Alexander) as his Burnley beat a Singapore Selection 1-0

-Klukowski started and played 65 as his Brugges beat Valenciennes 1-0

-No Haidar as his replacement Butelle played and let in two as Nimes lost their preseason friendly with Toulouse, by the score of 2-1.

Junior Hoilett starts and plays 90 minutes in midfield (4-1-4-1) for Blackburn Rovers who take on Rangers in Australia. 2-1 result for Rangers.

35 MINS: Diouf with a cross from the left, Hoilett looks for it at the back post and goes to ground, the referee waves play on.

51 MINS: Ball up to Roberts, he lays it off to Junior Hoillet who shoots goalwards but McGregor gets down to his right to save.

64 MINS: Now Rovers have a penalty as Junior Hoilett is brought down in the area. Boughera tripping the Rovers man.

Hate to say it but Lars Hirschfeld was at fault for the Aalesund last minute goal. He came for a cross and although he was jumping to meet the ball against AaFK's big man Tor Hogne Aarøy, he failed to collect and Alex Mathiesen scored from the scramble. Valerenga could have had it won way before that.

Barça's first friendly of the pre-season is vs. Lars' Valerenga by the way, in just a few days, on Thursday at 7 PM local time. Barcelona flies in and out the same day.

Will be interesting to see if Lars plays and how well, with Barcelona still without the core from the WC, which they will pick up in part before the Asian tour just after. Will be a lot of Barça 2nd team players, though they promoted to 2nd division this year and are v. strong. Still, a good test as this Barça will be the weakest you'll see all year.

Gavin Mcallum started and played 66 minutes for Lincoln City in a home friendly against a Celtic XI. 4-1 Celtic final.

'..The Imps' first attack of note came in the seventh minute with Gavin McCallum playing in Albert Jarrett who fizzed a low effort a foot wide

..the Imps restarted proceedings and were quickly on the attack with McCallum squaring for O'Keefe who saw his goalbound drive superbly tipped'

Valerenga lost 2-4 with Lars playing 90. Barcelona started with four first team players, added two more second half, plus new signing Adriano. The rest are from the B team now in Spanish 2nd division.

Acc to the FCB report the none of the goals were Lars' fault, the first a combo and shot, the second a wicked long blast from Maxwell, the third from a defensive error from the locals, and the final a Keita header.

I was in the air during the game, now in lovely Vancouver.
