Vic
Very good ref, and that was also Brazil's problem as kids in Edmonton. CAF teams Ghana 1 - 1 North Korea Ghana 2 - 3 Germany Nigeria 2 - 1 South Korea Nigeria 0 - 1 England (20-2 shots/11-0 corners) Those are pretty remarkable considering you can be guaranteed their budgets are a fraction of the teams they played. Most if not all of those players grew up playing on dirt.

red card
Japan was down to 10 men from the first Paraguay goal onwards (penalty kick awarded) - probably why it took them longer to kill them off. French goalkeeper really made some nice saves against the US. Korea DPR beat Japan twice in Asian qualifying - including 3-0 in the final. So, I'm assuming Japan has really improved since last year. Or as the Korean DPR manager said: "The players are actually not so good but because they have loyalty to Korea in their hearts, they were able to win. Vic
In the Japan's 7-2 win over Paraguay: - Japan got a red card at the 18 minute mark and played with 10 players from then on - over half the starters they used against USA/France sat on the bench, including Iwabuchi, Kira, Inoue, etc - the only starter from their USA and France games who played more than 30 minutes was their captain and goalkeeper - Mana Iwabuchi rested on the bench and never played - Chinatsu Kira rested on the bench and never played - Natsumi Kameoka rested on the bench and never played - Chiaki Shimada rested on the bench and never played - Yuko Takeyama rested on the bench and never played - Akane Saito rested on the bench and never played - Minoti Chiba received a red card in the 18th minute - Kozue Chiba entered the game in the 63rd minute - Yuiko Inoue entered the game in the 73rd minute [edit] redcard looks like we were looking at the same thing at the same time
Vic
Final result: North Korea 4 - 0 Denmark J.Myong Hwa(NKR) 21' J.Myong Hwa(NKR) 73' R.Un Ae(NKR) 86' Kim Un Ju(NKR) 89' *North Korea outshooting Denmark 7-0 through 20 minutes. *Denmark outshooting North Korea 4-0 through the next 40 minutes. *Shots are 13-7 for North Korea. Denmark did not hit the net even once. *Denmark had 55-60% possession all game, only dropping off a bit at the end. Sounds like North Korea came out and got the edge, Denmark came back at them for about 45-50 minutes, and when North Korea scored again it took the heart out of their sails. terpfan68
Interesting semi-finals Two traditional football nations with strong professional teams (Germany and England) One communist country which uses state control of athletes (North Korea) One country with high football participation numbers and a University system for player development (United States) Which player development model could (or should) Canada use?
CoachRich
Two traditional football nations with strong professional teams (Germany and England) - we need to do what these countries do prior to the players entering the Pro's w/ their regional NTC's, NT's starting at U15 & better pathways to the NTC's from the amateur clubs. Foundation & core of development should take place before Pro's, university & NT's
lolita
Bonjour I am very surprise of defeat Japom.

Vic
Like I said earlier in the thread: "One bad day at the office and you're toast. Could be a North Korea - USA final. I just pray the Germans come out asleep against us." I watched the Japan highlights. Reminds me of Michael Essien's comments on Arsenal today: ------------------------- Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has put the boot into Arsenal's title challenge by claiming they are all style and no substance after their win over Manchester United at the weekend. The Gunners have not won a trophy since the FA Cup in 2005 and manager Arsene Wenger had been criticised following some poor results before Saturday's 2-1 win over Sir Alex Ferguson's men. In contrast, Chelsea sit top of the Premier League and have been praised for their fluent style under new boss Luiz Felipe Scolari. Essien told the BBC's Inside Sport programme: "Everybody likes to watch beautiful football, but to play beautiful football without points is... I don't think it's worth it." "Arsenal is one of those teams that just plays beautiful football, but at the end of the day they don't get the points that they want to." The 25-year-old has made only two appearances under Scolari and will not return to action until next year after damaging knee ligaments playing for Ghana in September. And when he does return, he insists helping make Chelsea more attractive to watch will not be a priority. "For me, I don't care," he continued. "To be rough and get three points, or play well and get three points - win ugly or beautifully - I don't care." -------------------------
