Pool for 2014

Everybody can start fresh in my books. After that qualifying campaign, no one can say they deserve a spot on our national team.

First player in my 2014 pool:

Ethan Gage (Whitecaps via Cochrane AB).

Hard to argue with that one. He will be 21/22 at the start of the WCQ rounds and he is already very good. Watching Puerto Rico play against him was interesting. They came close to taking the ball away from him several times but each time he kept a cool head and got the ball away to one of his teammates.

i think , that most players should remain in the squad

nsaliwa should be resolved, imhoff is important and de rosario and hirshfeld as well

i would call stamatopulos as a back up, and i would try kuklowski as a cb,

Klukowski is a very good left back. He provides good crosses and options moving forward- why waste this by moving him to a centre back.

Manager with Previous History of Qualifying for the World Cup</u>

I hope there are lots of great youngsters out there who I haven't yet heard of but who will emerge to blow my mind.

Those in limbo (due to age):

Kevin McKenna - Pace will be a telling factor. Great leader though.

As for those on their way out:

Paul Stalteri - Diesel, you have been the engine of our team for many a game. I thank you for all your service for Canada, you are a class act and I wish you all the success with your club career. I hope you rediscover first team football if that is what you desire.

Dwayne DeRosario - You have been a treat to watch ever since the Lynx. I appreciate all your efforts to steer this ship in the right direction, and I hope we get Mitchell out of the way and have a chance to give you a proper goodbye. You deserve it.

Tomasz Radzinksi - Thank you for everything, best of luck with the new family. All the rough times in the past have been forgotten, thank you for chosing Canada, you have been a great ambassador for our game. Champions League leading scorer, not many can say that.

Richard Hastings - You have been a great character in the team, and nobody can question your commitment. Thanks for the great memories of the 2000 Gold Cup.

Adrian Serioux - You have been outstanding this cycle. Your determination and work ethic is admirable. Thanks for the service.

Daniel Imhof - Too bad we couldn't bring you into effect this cycle. You are still representing Canadian soccer at a high level, thanks for everything.

Pat Onstand - Despite the criticism, your service has been admirable. Thanks for 20 years of loyal service.

This started as a reply and grew to 1200 words, so, if you're interested:

A better gauge of whether a player should be called based on age is forecasting for 2012 instead of 2014. No use looking towards 2014 when we may not even advance past the SF round in the fall of 2012, right?
