Kind of ridiculous when you think about it, the competition that the European teams are faced with and the number of high quality teams that get left at home, while having 3 CONCACAF teams making it, almost seems like a waste of time to even hold a qualifying tournament, with how far ahead Mexico, the US and Canada are, or should I say, how far the other CONCACAF countries are behind.

Maybe CONCACAF could modify its qualification procedure and have 2 teams qualify between Canada, US and Mexico, and 1 team from the Caribian and Central American countries. That would be more fair and better representation.

...and then have the European team kick their butts; then UEFA suggest that FIFA go back to the good old days of having just one representative from our region!! ooh yeah.

2 representatives between Canada, Mexico and the US sounds a little more reasonable. If that extra spot being given to the Caribbean does get kicked around in the beginning in the name of exposure and development in those countries for the women's game and gives those countries a chance..why not? Don't you think it seems a bit ridiculous for the qualifying that the European countries have to go through and Canada, MEX and the US thumping the crap out of minnows like T and T and Nicaragua to punch their ticket to the World Cup? Australia seems to have survived and thrived actually having to battle for a spot in the Asian group and it actually gives a representative from the Oceania region like a New Zealand a chance to develop their game through going to world championship events.

but bad for us who have to watch the painful process, which in the end doesn't develop their game anyway - as evidenced by the Aussies leaving the region.

i don't want to see NZ in all these tourneys - such as last yrs men u20 stinking up the joint.

by the way, video of Canada game from CONCACAF is available at

after watching various parts of both games, it appears the long ball style is gone - they're actually playing like a real football team.

Though passing is still not crisp and finishing has been atrocious. Monica Lam-Fiest looks like she has potential to be on roster on senior team soon or even now. Filigno shows she also ball skills and Kaylyn Kyle also showed she has some moves. All 3 players with skillsets not truly seen on current senior team.

Watched USA v. Cuba the other day... the Cubans have some players on the field who are the equivalent of a rec women's league player. The Americans are pretty complete, and Leroux put in the last half hour against Cuba (and TT... seems they like her pace late when opponents tire). She didn't look stellar, but she didn't look out of place on a strong side. Don't think their keeper has had to make a single save yet. We've put a considerable amount of time and effort into our program and it will be interesting to see how that pays dividends when we play the USA. i.e do we revert to a pretty version of pinball, or do we attempt to play the way we played through the group stage, and if we do, how well does it work.

US 4-0 Costa Rica in the 79th minute. Three subs gone, Leroux still on the bench. USA hasn't scored in 35 minutes.

Pretty amazing CR can hold them to 7 shots and 2 corners from a program operating on a shoestring compared to North American juggernaut $$$ and prep.
