Sounds like Daniel came out unfocussed after the triumphant week, as the rival scored with an own goal that looks really to have been Daniel's fault in the first minutes. Would have to see the backpass to know if it really was though. Seems the tying goal in extra time was not his fault at all though. Live and learn Daniel.

Descriptions of goals from www.paokfc.gr

02' Larisa. Karipidis returned the ball to his goalkeeper but Fernandes did not reacted well and failed to clear the ball, leaving it pass under him and end into the net.

59' PAOK. Konstantinidis was fouled into the area by Vela and the referee whistled for a penalty kick. Salpigidis converted it equalising the game.

79' PAOK. Feutchine struck a foul kick and Maladenis with a difficult header beated Kotsolis and put his team ahead.

92' Larisa. Kiparissis was found alone in the penalty area and his shot ended up on the roof of the net. 2-2.

I saw the highlights of the match, and yes it was Fernandes' fault unfortunately. A high ball deep into PAOK's zone came down towards Karipidis who chested it back towards Fernandes. Fernandes, a few yards above the penalty spot, attempted to clear the ball by kicking it. He completely missed however, and the ball went into the centre of the net. There was nothing wrong with the backpass and there was no pressure from any Larisa forwards.

The stars are aligning in Norway as the "Canadian" teams that needed the wins (Molde, Tromso) got them. Unfortunately so did their main relegation competitors. Hopefully the Scandinavian nightmare of last year will be reversed.

Team Canada 2 (Haugesund) is now tied for first with a +13 lead in goal differential. Haugesund can put the puck in the ocean, and score lots of goals. They picked up a win today, Haugesund 3 - Stord/Moster 0.

Fellow first place team, Viking 2 plays tomorrow.

Haugesund have a tough final schedule, they play the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams in their final games.

Wasn't good enough for our WCQ roster last summer (other than against the grocery clerks from Belize).

Come on, Ed. We all know how much you hate Yallop, but this is completely cynical, even for you.

McKenna (when not injured) has been a Yallop favourite, and has even assumed the captain's armband this year.

Dwayne De Rosario makes his bid for MVP pipping rival Taylor Twellman

Second-half spurt propels Quakes to win

By Baltazar Palencia / MLSnet.com Staff

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- In a matchup of the top two teams in Major League Soccer, the San Jose Earthquakes laid claim to the best in the league after they came away from Gillette Stadium with a 2-0 victory against the New England Revolution on Saturday night.

Brian Ching and Dwayne De Rosario scored second-half goals from the Earthquakes, now five points ahead of the Revolution in the race for the MLS Supporters Shield -- awarded to the team with the best regular-season record -- with two games remaining for each club. The Revolution played a man down for the half-hour after Daniel Hernandez was sent off.

The opening sequences of the match were dominated by the Revolution midfield, but without the power to open the scoring thanks to tough defending by San Jose. The New England trio in the center of the field -- Hernandez, Clint Dempsey and Sharlie Joseph, controlled the early movements with their passing but were unable to unlock the Earthquakes defense.

The first good shot at goal came in the 37th minute when right winger Steve Ralston got down the flank before cutting a pass back to Taylor Twellman. After eluding his marker he laid a pass off to Pat Noonan in the penalty area, but Pat Onstad got down well to make the save on Noonan's shot.

After an opening 45 minutes favored by the home side, the dynamic of the match changed after the halftime break. New England first went close just two minutes after the restart, Noonan finding Twellman at the far post with a cross from the right flank. The leading scorer in MLS hit a powerful shot back across goal that rebounded back off the post.

In the 49th minute, Noonan was taken off in favor of Andy Dorman after the Revolution forward suffered a injury to his left foot without a challenge, and while Dorman missed high shortly after, the tide of the match was turning.

Ian Russell gave way to Kevin Goldthwaite in the 55th minute for the Earthquakes, who brought better movement in the San Jose forward thrust. In the 60th minute, Goldthwaite put in a corner from the right side that Ching rose up to head home past Matt Reis and give the visitors the lead.

A minute later, the situation for the Revolution grew even worse. Hernandez was on the ball in midfield, and as he was challenged by San Jose striker Alejandro Moreno, the New England midfielder connected with an elbow. Referee Ricardo Salazar immediately showed the red card, sending Hernandez off and leaving the Revolution a man down.

The tide of the match turned as San Jose began to have more possession of the ball and began to create more opportunities with their movement down the flanks. The Revolution were called upon to commit more fouls and give the Earthquakes dangerous restart chances.

San Jose doubled their lead in the 80th minute, when De Rosario took the ball in the center of the field and dribbled down the inside-left channel, first leaving Jay Heaps in his wake then skipping past final defender Michael Parkhurst before beating Reis with a low shot inside the near post.

The Revolution had their chances, winning 15 corner kicks on the night and seven in the second half, but couldn't break through and suffered just a second defeat at home on the season.

Stephen Ademolu called the fastest player in Norway.

http://fotball.aftenposten.no/nyhetsarkiv/article.jhtml?articleID=86735

Has run 40m in 4.45 seconds, the fastest time among current players, faster than John Carew when he was in Elitserien... Stephen has earlier played basketball and run track, but focussed on soccer after being called-up to the U-20s?... hasn't been capped with the senior team, but it's a possibility against Luxembourg... TIL is said to have successfully converted Stephen from striker to left wing... He signed with TIL because he wanted to play in Europe.

Who's scores a higher percentage of goals off headers, Kevin McKenna or Rob Friend?

Friend's goals can be seen here:

I don't know the answer to that but I do know the guy who scores almost every time he wears the Leaf. :)

In Italy, Monte Sansovino gets a go ahead goal by Julian Uccello five minutes after his substitution in the 79' minute mark of the second half, came at the 83rd minute to give his team a 2 - 1 lead but shortly there after Sansovino went down to 10 men Sassuolo managed to get the equalizer at the 90'. In extra time Uccello would have been his 2nd goal of the night but the referee apparently called it back for a hand ball on his part there is no question that infact the ref was right on the mark on the call.

He was awarded the man of the match by Datasport.it in the 15 minutes that he played.

The game ended in a draw and Sansovino stays well in the top table in standings in points along with Benevento Cavese and Spal.

Next match in Sansovino on Wednesday in Coppa Italia against Pisa in a home and away the 12th and 19th.

Winner meets Genoa in late Nov.

Note that Gualdo will meet Sansovino in a league match game On Oct 23rd two Canadians Placentino and Uccello against each other. A first maybe in Italy.

Ali Gerba scores the opener as Sundsvall defeats Häcken 3-0, taking their last chance to remain in the swedish premier. They have now 3 points up to Gefle at the play-off position with two matches left of the regular season.

Thanks for the updates.

Can you tell us where we can find a list of the Swedish Premier's leading goal scorers ? How's Gerba doing ?

Can't say I like the kind of goals I see being scored in Norway (lots of kick and run and classic Brit style crosses, little quality midfield play), but Friend is pretty good with the headers. The one vs. Rosenborg a few weeks ago is a beauty.

He also has a few as a classic striker with the right foot. Quite accurate. How would you choose then between him and Occean when they seem quite similar in the same league?

Today in the CCC, Bircham is the captain for QPR as they host Crystal Palace.

1-2 for Palace at the half.

Bircham plays 90, picks up a yellow (and almost a second yellow a minute later) as QPR lose 1-3 to Palace, and QPR drop to 10th in the table.

At the rate Ali is scoring (I see he's just one goal away from being tied for most goals on his team, and presumably the guy he's chasing has been with the team longer) I suspect he'll be in the Swedish (or Norwegian) top flight next season even if Sundsvall goes down.
