Free kick
The midfielder wearing number 6 for Canada whom the players called out "Joey", was one who caught my attention. Looked dangerous all game especially in the first half. Also a very good ball striker. He had 3-4 good scoring chances from outside the box in the first half and even rang one of the cross bar. It didn't take long into the game to reallise that he was the guy that everyone was looking for on the pitch. The goal scorer( number 9) named "Todd" also impressed with good pace. All in all a dominant performance by the Canadians. The scotts seldom ever crossed into canada's territory in the first half. Canada would have probably won this game had they played without a goal keeper. The defenders were very composed all game. Number 3 (Nana-sp), whose parents were sitting two rows behind me, had a good game. Also liked the way the defenders weren't shy to come foward when they had to. Particularly number 2 whom I heard spectators refer to as "Kennedy"
Free kick
Interesting. I just went back to check the thread for the first game and many of the players I mentioned as standouts did not play in the first game. The score of that game was 2-2. Final Score:...........Canada U-17s.................3.................Scotland U-17s............0.............. Attendance was about 575 today with the stands completely full and a spillover crowd watching the game from behind the north end goal and the hill on the east side. Admission was free. The crowd was pro Canadian with once again about half the crowd being younger than the players in this game. Many were here today to hear the draw for the Ontario Cup for whatever age groups they were in. That was taking place starting at 4:00pm in the Soccer Centre building. Any crowd spark for Scottish fans was quickly quieted by their players passing to a Canadian defender who'd break up the play. Canada continued where they left off in their Thursday match by dominating play. They were passing the ball around in the back and 'globetrottering' (basketball term) fancy dribbling and passing into the open where another Canadian would rush in to pick up the ball. Some of us fans were concerned that Canada played with the wind at their backs in the first half and that may have aided their shots but all three goals were scored in the second half. Canada's Joey Melo got in blast after blast during the first half and the shots were close and I hoped another player would have charged in for a possible rebound. The Canadian defense was rock solid especially the heading of Nana Attakora with his knocks of often 15 yard snappers that were over any Scottish player nearby. The defenders weren't afraid to rush upfield knowing there'd be a Canadian drop back to cover his place in the backline. I'd never been to a Canadian national men's team game where they are so much better than their opposition. (Canada's womens teams of different age groups overpower opponents is nothing new). I'm looking forward to any more games in the Toronto area however the whole country deserves to see this team! With only four players listed as coming from provinces west of Ontario, there may be a west coast based team. Rocket Robin robing@eol.ca
NE
Does it mean anything that the Scottish U16 team here is not the same one at http://www.scottishfa.co.uk/scottish_football.cfm?curpageid=382 ???
An Observer
Looks like it was some sort of development team...as I checked the U17s roster as well...and they are all listed at 1988s which means is not even an issue of them not updating the website as they have the correct ages for them. Perhaps an U15 side?
Ivan
Regardless, it sounds like we completely dominated both games in spite of the first result. The second should have been 10-0. Surely, we can be satisfied with a 3-0 win?

analyst
Watched two of our U17s in a game today, Haber's U16 team from Vancouver vs Liam Smiths U16 team from Abbotsford. Haber looked good - but most impressive about him is his size - 6'2" and around 175 pounds. His coach played him at centreback, not his best spot as had some dificulty with long balls from Abbotsdford. Given his offensive skills he has better in midfield, where I have seen him play well before. Liam Smith played right defence for Abbotsford. He was disciplined, and a good athlete, but not special with the ball. The most effective player in the game was Rob Geizen, who played midfield for Vancouver. He scored the first goal, and unleashed several hard low 30 yard shots which the Abbotsford goalie barely stopped. Wonder if Stephen Hart invited Geizen? Ivan
Analyst, when you referenced Haber's U16 team from Vancouver, would that be the Whitecaps U16 team?
analyst
quote:Originally posted by Ivan Analyst, when you referenced Haber's U16 team from Vancouver, would that be the Whitecaps U16 team? Its his youth league winter team called the Vancouver Selects. They just finished winter league and are in the finals of the Provincial U16 cup vs a Surrey United U16 Selects. The winners play in the National Club Championship tournament next fall. The U16 winter league has 16 teams in the Select league , so the calibre of play is poor as there are many poor players. Players like Haber, Smith and Geizen stand out because the calibre of other players is poor. The Whitecaps do not operate youth teams in the winter. They only have a winter academy for kids. They do have U13 to U18 Super Yleague teams in the SuperYleague each summer. Players who don't play for provincial teams in the summer are encouraged to play for the Caps SuperYleague teams. Ivan
Thanks Analyst. So these 3 players you mentioned would not play Super Y either? They would play for a provincial team? Who do the provincial teams play against and do they play a regular schedule? Sorry for the questioning, just interested in how thngs work in BC. They probably won't play SuperY, but sometimes (not often) players chosen for the provincial team turn it down because 1) The Provincial team is more expensive than the Yleague team; or they don't like the Provincial coach; or C)They don't agree with the provincial team program - for example some Provincial teams play in tournaments against teams 2 or 3 years older. Last year, Vukovic didn't play for the provincial team because of the cost. The BC provincial teams don't play in a a league. They play freindlies and they play in tournaments in Washington State, Oregon and California, often against older youth teams. Some years the provincial teams go to Europe for tournaments. footyfanatic01
analyst BC Super Y league team is coming to Calgary next week right? I'll probably watch a couple games a friend of mine plays on the BC team. This year the Calgary Y League teams are a joke...the best players didn't try out, so i think it will be an easy win for the BC'ers.
