Ipswich defender Jason De Vos has hit out at how the Canadians diagnosed his injury, which has proved less serious than first thought.

Canada's medical staff sent him home to England after a scan apparently showed a hairline fracture of his fibula, forcing him out of their World Cup qualifier at home to Guatemala, which Canada lost 2-0.

It seems that Canada were over-cautious, because an MRI scan back at Ipswich showed no sign of the fracture and instead revealed simply severe bruising to both the fibula and tibia.

Certainly De Vos showed no ill effects on Saturday, as he completed the full 90 minutes and skippered Town to a 3-1 home win over Cardiff.

Afterwards, he said: "I'm very annoyed with the medical staff at the hospital in Canada. After the initial X-ray came back clear they said a further scan showed a fracture in the fibula. I specifically asked that they were sure it was not just bruising, but they were adamant.

"I came back and found there is no fracture so I could have played for my country. Instead we lost and that could be a big blow to our chance of qualifying for the World Cup," he added.

De Vos admitted feeling some soreness after Saturday's game, but he has a week to rest, with manager Joe Royle having said he will not be risked against Brentford on Tuesday, in order to have him fit for the Bank Holiday matches against Rotherham and Wolves.

something tells me we haven't heard the end of this one.....

GREAT JOB CSA ....

good idea ot PISS OFF our former captain who lost his armband to a piece of SH!T keeper who can't control the friggin ball or win us a friggin game....deVos is THE key player in our squad.....forget radz, forget brennen...without devos we WILL NOT WIN....would we have given up 4 goals vs germany with JDV in the lineup? without a doubt, NO! wuld we have given up 2 goals vs the twats with jdv in the lineup? NO 1 at the most! Messge to frank and the rest of the CSA: DONT PISS THIS MAN OFF, HE IS THE HEART AND SOUL OF CANADIAN SOCCER. If i got a canadian soccer jersey customized it would be number 5 without a doubt.

Oh, and i'd order a captains armband long with that...

Uh, just how is this the CSA's fault?

It specifically says that the staff at the hospital diagnosed a hairline fracture. Unless the CSA's doctors were employed at that hospital, I fail to see what exactly they did wrong. They sent him to get an X-ray, the doctors at the hospital said there was a fracture, so De Vos sat.

Geez, you guys need to get a friggin grip.

I view this as a positive story. Hard to blame anyone outside the hospital.

The positive aspect is the fire in the belly.

If this fire can be spread around the team there is hope not only for the Honduras match, but to steal a win and a tie on the road, which we have to do to have a chance.

I'm not displeased about this article at all. Quite the contrary. The medical mistake was not a football mistake, not like the myriad problems with the CSA that we have been facing for decades.

I understand that, but who's to say it was the CSA doctor that made the final diagnosis?

I'm no medical expert, but usually x-rays are done by specialists who are trained to look for certain things, whereas the CSA doctor is most likely a general practitoner who will probably take the word of the person(s) doing the x-rays.

If anyone can use this ****ty siituation as a positive motivating force its DeVos. He'll fire the boys up in Edmonton, I have faith.

Imagine for a moment that this was the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Leafs were tied 2-2 in their series with the Flyers, and Mats Sundin is diagnosed with a broken leg and misses the critical game five which the Leafs lose 2-0, and afterwards it's discovered there was no broken leg and Sundin could have played. Can you imagine the furour that would be heard on every media outlet for weeks on end?

In reality, this would NEVER HAPPEN in hockey. If the diagnosis was at all unclear, the Leafs would get a second and a third opinion if needed. Ultimately these sort of things happen to the MNT because the CSA is bush league and allows them to happen. This is a travesty. The buck has to stop with the head honcho, and so I blame Pipe.

I only pray that I live long enough to see the day that Pipe is out on his a$$. Fire the imbecile now.

Yeah, I know Sean, you're right of course. I'm still furious and embarassed by that loss to the greasy Guates, and I need to vent that emotion somewhere. Besides, blaming Pipe for all the bad things in life has almost become second nature.

It rained all through my vacation? That's it, Pipe has GOT TO GO!

At any hospital in the Lower Mainland x-rays and MRIs are interpreted by radiologists who specialize in such things. Any doctor, including general practitioners and those in other specialties, will defer to radiologists with respect to x-rays. The CSA's doctors would not have been making the interpretation in this case.

As much as I'm not a fan of the CSA's current management, I don't think this fiasco can be blamed on them

Thanks.

I think the anti-CSA sentiment has gone a tad extreme on this board. The next thing you know someone will be blaming the CSA for the Enron collapse or the AIDS epidemic in Africa.

Oh please! Kevin Pipe's fingerprints were all over the Enron fiasco.
