DJT
Originally posted on the other forum by Ed - Feb 28, 2004, 11:49 AM</u> Comfortable 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund by Werder Bremen keeps them in front of Bayern Munich (also won today) in the title race. Paul Stalteri played 90 minutes at Weser Stadium as his side scored two goals in the 2nd half for the home victory. In the Regional League South yesterday, Victor Oppong was subbed out in the 71st minute as 1.FC Saarbruecken came back in the last minute to tie Bayern Munich Amateurs 1-1 in Saarbruecken. They drop back to 3rd in the table, but took a valuable point off the league leaders from Munich. In the Junioren Bundesliga South Southwest division, Dylan Hughes started as a striker as 1.FC Kaiserslautern beat 1.FC Saarbruecken 2-0. Hughes was ejected for a 2nd yellow midway through the 2nd half. Jeremy Shepherd and Hertha Berlin go tomorrow.

Guest Jeffery S.
Tam Nsaliwa came on m. 67 for Regensberg for a striker as they held on to their early goal and beat Unterhaching 1-0 in 2nd Bundesliga. The rival played the late 2nd half with 10. Is that his first playing time back from injury? Imhof is likely playing for St. Gallen, drawing Grasshopper 1-1 away at the half in Swiss action. To add to postponed game, Ante Jazic's Rapid Vienna had their match called off yesterday vs. Karnten for weather. Speaking of which, right now, at half past five in the afternoon in Barcelona, it is snowing, Espanyol-Valencia in the Olympic Stadium is being played under the snow and the lines are getting hard to see. They have a problem with playing with an orange ball as Valencia's away kit is that pumpkin colour, so they stick with white. A big chunk of Spain is under snow this weekend in fact. Guest Jeffery S.
Julian de Guzman has started for Hannover at home vs. Hertha in Bundesliga action. canadiankick97
The game finishes 3-1 in favour of Hertha Belin. It looks like Julian De Guzman went the distance as usual.
Guest Jeffery S.
Fernando Aguiar has started for Benfica alongside Petit in the midfield in a home match vs. Moreirense. Benfica has Nuno Gomes back from injury and thus is opting for a more defensive midfield since the attack is more sure.
WildboutCdnScr
quote:Originally posted by Jeffrey S. Dwayne de Rosario played the first hour for the Quakes as they came back with a man down to beat Norway top flight Staebak 2-1 in La Manga Cup, held in Spain. Onstad did not play, 2nd keeper Conway got 90 m. The team is into the semi final of the tournament, to be held on Tuesday. Olivier Occean scored the 2nd goal for Metrostars over Norway's Bodo/Glimt in a 3-1 win. This comment on Olivier by a Norway fan is on the MLS team's board at BigSoccer: "According to the article i read, Glimt had particular trouble with quick striker Oliver Ocean...guess he had a good game then...". Very good news for the kid. They are likely to be the best 2nd place team and draw Dynamo Kiev in the semis. The following is a report on the MLS league site. It appears Double-O had quite a game, effectively creating the first goal and scoring the second, as well as providing a tap-in for the third. Like was said earlier, good way to make an impression. Nice, real Nice! http://www.mlsnet.com/content/04/met0228lamanga.html
Cheeta
quote:Originally posted by hamiltonfan Tomasz Radzinski was subed on and in the 78 min scored the game winner for Everton, the final score was 2-0 Was just thinking ol' Toffee is on range to still net a dozen for Everton this year. Not bad, eh? I mean with all things considered. Rooney's maturing, the **** season Everton has had up until the last month or so, etc. Go to see Everton climbing up a little on the table. Think they've got Portsmouth at Goodison next week so that's good news although Portsmouth seems to have gotten their act a bit together as well of late. DJT
Canadians in Italy February 26/27 (this may belong in last week's thread, but fits well here in any case) Friendly: Teramo (Rocco Placentino) 3-2 FK Jurmala (Latvia) - Placentino played 90 minutes and scored a goal. He greatly impressed everyone, prompting fans and media to call for more playing time for him. There is a break in Serie C1 this week, so with no league match Teramo took the opportunity to play the Latvian second-division champions FK Jurmala, who I guess are on some type of pre-season tour. February 29 Serie D: Isola Liri (David Masciantonio) 1-3 Val di Sangro - Masciantonio did not dress. (My guess is that it was not for tactical reasons.) Promozione Puglia (7th tier): Lucera (Franco Lalli) 2-3 Bisceglie - I don't know if Lalli played (all I know is that he definitely didn't score). I'll update this post if I find anything else. Bisceglie are the top team in the group, now 18 points ahead of third-place Lucera.
Guest Jeffery S.
quote:Originally posted by canadiankick97 Aguiar scores for Benfica (woooooh!!!!) in a 1-1 draw. From a game report (AP), mentioning also the team's 100th anniversary celebrations: More than 32,000 fans at the new Luz stadium celebrated a deserved goal in the 56th minute when midfielder Fernando Aguiar headed in from an Armando Petit free kick. Moreirense, however, ruined the celebrations when Brazilian substitute Demetrios Montanini headed home with three minutes remaining but he was then sent off two minutes later because of a second bookable offence. Benfica desperately pressed for the winning goal in injury time with substitute midfielder Zlatko Zahovic hitting the bar. Benfica, who have won 30 league titles, marked their centennial birthday on Saturday with a weekend of festivities.
shaku_bert
a bury fan site gave dunfield a very high rating for the game last weekend. http://bury.rivals.net/default.asp?sid=923&p=2&stid=8339956 Not to disparage Bury or their fans, but it would appear that the club are going nowhere fast. I wonder if Terry will develop enough to move to a better team.
Thuram05
I just got some news on Olivier Occean in Spain at the tournament with the Metrostars. Apparently he scored 2 goals in a 3-2 win against Dynamo Kiev. That's good news for the recruit.
An Observer
With Occean seemingly scoring goals and setting up tap ins, you have to start asking why he was not selected for the U-23s in Mexico especially when Hume wasn't getting the call.

Well, actually a few of us were asking that question some time ago, prior to the final round of Olympic qualification. If he sticks with the Metrostars (and the way he is potting them in thus far, there's every reason to believe he will) I would expect that Yallop (not exactly the biggest disbeliever of the MLS around) will give him a look. This could end up being another Daniel Imhof situation (ie. not used by Twamly for the U23's, but used soon after by the senior team).
Jarrek
Well, slotting one by Dynamo Kyiv is quite an achievement. I must say it was a near 1st team for Dynamo, the same one that beat Arsenal 2-1.
SABuffalo786
Good weekend for your boys. Man, Radzinski just keeps plugging away. WCQ group 2 is going to be very interesting. OO could be a great sub for the Metrosexuals. I don't see him starting with Mike Magee, and then the likely signing of a past his prime English star(shudder). domdick
Best performance in a while from Bircham, he went off the boil in January and the early part of Febuary, but seems to be coming back to his best, which is important coming down the stretch.
