Serbia and Croatia renew thier CSL rivarly

The quality of last night’s soccer was decent, though it was hard to judge because of the poor state of the playing field and lack of proper lighting.

At arrival to the stadium I was amazed to see the number of security personnel, alot most I have ever seen at footballmatch in Canada. Signs were posted at the entance "NO FIREWORKS, FLARES OR ALCOHOL ARE PREMITTED IN THE STADIUM" Each fan was then check buy security upon entry.

Inside again, like the first two matches, the stands were lop-side., I estimate the attendance to be near 2200. The White Eagles supporters were out in huge numbers maybe 1700, while Toronto Croatia supporters I would say 500 max.

The game was entertaining from the outset, both teams made the best of the poor field. The majority of the chances were for SWE, even hitting a cross-bar on one occasion. Toronto Croatia did muster a chance or two but were denied by Serbian Goaltender. Dragan Radovic opened the scoring at 55 minutes. Then minutes after coming into the game Gabriel Pop, the CSL leading scoring, added two, one in the 80th, and one in the 85th minutes to secure at comfortable 3-0 win.

Of note, two players, Robert Fran of Toronto Croatia and Milan Janosevic of Serbian White Eagles were both ejected in the first half for violent behaviour.

Now as for the stands for the most part normal, the fans were loud on both sides of the pitch. A lot of signing, chanting the normal stuff. But shortly after the first White Eagles goal things began to change. Toronto Croatia Supporters unveiled a flag of Ante Pavelic, who was the leader and founding member of the Croatian national socialist/fascist Ustase movement in the 1930s and later the leader of the Independent State of Croatia, a puppet state of Nazi Germany during WWII. As the leader of the Ustase he directly ordered, organized and conducted a campaign of terror against Serbs, Jews, Gypsies, and communist Croats. The extent of this campaign reached the proportions of genocide. Pavelic's Ustase regime was the most murderous Nazi client state in the entirety of occupied Europe. Croatian supporters stood with the one hand raised in the air, eerily resembling the "Hail Hitler Salute", chanting profanities about Serbs. The Serbs countered with a "Fasicist, Fascist" chant. Next the Croatian Supporters began lighting flares, fireworks etc. The question I have at this point was did security even check the Toronto Croatia supporters or was that only something that the White Eagles fans had to go through?

Immediately after SWE’s third goal the majority of the Toronto Croatia fans started to exit the stadium. A small crowd of their fans began throwing flares onto the field, into the Serbian supporter’s stands. They made there way right underneath the White Eagles supports in the parking lot. A group of about 10-20 Croatian urged the Serbs fans to join them in the parking lot. A large number of the more mature Serbian White Eagles supporters pleaded "leave them, they lost, don’t bother”. But this all change when a Serbian Girl was confronted by Croatian fans in the parking lot. A huge number of Serbian White Eagles fans exited and rush the parking lot, but many were detained in the building as security lock the exit doors.(good move by the stadium officials, police etc.) Overall a very entertaining game with some unfortunately endings, ultimately the Serbian White Eagles will now finish on top of the league with a 16-1-4 record.

At the game yesterday, i do have to say the crowd was pretty fun. But the game itself was absolutly terrible. The field was wet and carpet so no one could play the ball threw. Also everyone was soo slow minded and really the game was a waste of time.

Now with the crazyness, I came in threw the croatian side and i was patted down completly... i even think i got a happy ending. So im not sure how they got the flares in but they did a good job of sneekin them in.

With the Ante banner they put out, they group of like 15 of them seemed proud that they had it out, while all the old men around us were shakin there head in disgust. They were also doing the nazi salute which was really really out of control.

The one question i have for you balkan, is that i looked over to the other side and i thought i saw the same thing. I could totally be wrong, but just owuld like clarification. But to be honest the atmosphere durring the game was incredible.

Not just the serb ultras, but the whole serb side was on fire when they scored the goal. It was pretty impressive, the black mark for the game was the fighting at the end where I had counted 15-20 cop cars, and over 30 police officers and the k9 unit.

Mr Kaplan is going to get **** on for this one, FORSURE

Your right the "Ultra Serbs" were doing a similar salute, but in rapid motion, but the key is what they are saying as they do it... They are calling Ante, Nazis, Ustase etc. socialists and fascists.

Dear oh dear, Mr. Kaplan will no doubt try and play this one down too. Appalling behaviour but utterly predictable, I have been protesting this international division thing of the CSL since its inception. Bad, bad idea. This is not the world cup, it is a petty little domestic, regional league - don't confuse the two.

Where were you when you saw the girl was hit? I was in the parking lot and no one hit the girl.

Regardless, whoever was there they witnessed the happenings! The small group of Croatian's that were responsible for throwing the flares into the Serbian section, and on the field, and ultimately causing the dilema in the parking lot got what they deserved. For all parties involved, luckily some people got locked in the stadium. Beacuse it would have got extremely out of hand. I am trying to get my hands on some video showing the parking lot. The problem is it was taped on a digital camera and it is from the stands. Haven't seen it yet, but as soon as I recive it I will post it if it's worth posting!

Please post it-so we can all laugh at the joke this division seems to be becoming.

It is very sad... I mean the atmosphere was great at this game. The feeling you get when a team scores and the crowd goes crazy is unbeatable. There was no need for the small group of Croatian fans to do what they did, and for that I hope that F***ER got beat down.

Balkanboy, there you go wishing yet more violence. This whole ethnic thing is completely wrong for a domestic Canadian league that promotes itself as professional and that charges for tickets. You can get just as big a thrill from a team scoring in a non-ethnic league if it is the SOCCER that you care about, not your ethnicity.

Any man who hits a women deserves to rot in hell! And I believe your wrong, it has to do with your surroundings. I mean CSL games have 12 fans, do you see 6 of those fans signing and chanting and going crazy when a goal is scored? Any why not?

The CSL created this ethnic division not because it thought it was good for soccer, it was done to increase gate revenues because people like you are easier to rile up over ethnic issues than assimilated Canadians are. Don't fool yourself.

I was in the parking lot and no one hit the girl. What your friend says that he was there and they hit the girl is totally false. And there were no flares being throw in the stands. There was one flare thrown and it was thrown just over the fence no where near the stands.

I don't know if a girl was hit by anyone, but I can confirm that the (one) flare was not thrown into the Serbian stand, but rather onto the field.

On the other hand, some TC jackass fan did shoot roman candles from the parking lot into the Serbian stand.

Either way, I wasn't too impressed with the behaviour of both sets of fans (in the beginning the atmosphere was great, it inevitably turned into a politically-charged pissing match).

Nor was I impressed with the soccer. The field at Lamport should either be replaced or condemned. There is no way a soccer game should be played on 20 year old AstroTurf with NFL (not CFL) lines and patches of concrete scattered about. Regardless, the players themselves were not skillfull enough to compensate for the poor playing conditions, and the game was a real hackfest (leading to a couple of ejections, and a couple that should have been ejections).

I went to this match with some U-Sector guys as a curious observer, to see what all the hype was about. Coming up to the stadium I must say I was impressed by the noise such a small group could make, but watching this match confirmed that the CSL is nothing more than an elite men's amateur league in playing level.

I'd gladly watch the Lynx play over even the so-called 'marquee' matchup between SWE and TC.

Thank God for Toronto FC next year.
