Well good luck to the promotion hopefuls: Iain Hume at Tranmere and Pesch at Derby and the Ipswich boys (well one boy anyway and one man).

And good luck to Norwich this weekend; if they win at Fulham it would be the survival tale of the year (and maybe give Mr. Brennan a chance for next season in the EPL).

Decent result for De Vos and Ipswich today in the first-leg of their playoff against West Ham, as they came back from being down 2-0 early, to draw 2-2. Jason, of course, played the full 90 minutes.

I wonder who Craig Forrest is cheering for?

Ipswich, no doubt. He spent his better days there and there's 2 Canadians on the team (one playing).

In Italy the final game Julian Uccello scores his 16 goal of the season, in a loss agaisnt the 2nd place team Cossatese 5 - 2. This loss put Savona in a playout competation against Versilia in the coming weeks. The winner will remain in Serie D next year the loser will be relegated.

Here is a picture of his 16th goal celebration and mostlikely his last game with Savona

Bruges win Belgian title

BRUSSELS, May 15 (Reuters) - Club Bruges sealed their 13th Belgian first division title after a 2-2 draw with second-placed Anderlecht on Sunday.

Club Bruges win Belgian title for 13th time

By Darren Ennis

BRUGES, May 15 (Reuters) - Club Bruges claimed their 13th Belgian first division title after grabbing a point in a 2-2 draw at home to nearest challengers Anderlecht on Sunday.

With one game left Bruges are six points clear but it was a rollercoaster afternoon for both sets of supporters as the outgoing champions fought back to level twice.

The point for Anderlecht cemented their Champions League participation next term and a domestic double is now within Bruges' grasp as they look forward to a Belgian Cup final date at the end of May.

Bruges got off to the perfect start with a goal after 90 seconds when a bad defensive header by Vincent Kompany fell at the feet of Bruges striker Nastja Ceh who finished well.

The home side went close to increasing their lead minutes later when top scorer Rune Lange's volley sailed narrowly over the crossbar.

Anderlecht levelled on 36 minutes with a Hannu Tihinen header after Christian Wilhelmsson's shot came back off the bar.

But Bruges were back in control straight after restart through Gert Verheyen and a helping hand from Anderlecht goalkeeper Daniel Zitka.

The visitors came out after the break with a spring in their step and after threatening on a number of occasions, they levelled in the 55th minute through Nenad Jestrovic.

Bruges coach Trond Sollied already has one eye on next season's Champions League, saying: "We have always said that if we are in the Champions League, we are in it to win."

He added: "These players have worked very hard and deserve their chance. I am happy with our squad, but will have money to spend on new players if I so choose."

Anderlecht coach Franky Vercauten said: "I am unhappy with the result, but very happy with the second half performance."

Mons-Bergen and Oostende were both relegated, while the battle for the UEFA Cup spot became a two horse race between Standard Liege and Racing Genk after Racing beat Charleroi 2-0.

Fernando Aguiar came back from injury, scoring in m. 4 on a header to lead Penafiel to a 1-3 away win at Nacional. Penafiel remains solidly mid-table. Next week is the last day of the season in Portugal, with Benfica with the edge to take the league.

Bad news for Aris today! Their game vs. Iraklis was cancelled after fan violence. Iraklis was winning 2-1 when the game was cancelled. There is a good chance that Aris will be docked some points, which would assure their relegation.

Somewhat good news for Fernandes...He played today for PAOK. They lost to Apollon Kalamaria 2-1.

Here are the details:

Salvation for Kalamaria

http://news.ert.gr/en/newsDetails.asp?id=7888

By Dimitris Alexopoulos

Apollon Kalamaria will remain in the A Division and it defeated PAOK 2-1. Even though Apollon was behind in the score early on (6’ Mieciel), it managed to overturn the situation and with two goals by Cleyton in two minutes (68’, 69’) acquired the win. In combination with the final recess of Aris vs. Iraklis, and the expected punishment of the "yellows," Kalamaria will head down to Athens in the final round of the Championships to play against AEK in OAKA Stadium without worrying about the result.

The Great Overturn

PAOK started the game ideally and in the first opportunity scored. It was in the 6’ of the game, when Theodoridis with a nice kick found Mieciel at the back of the defense of the home team and the latter sent the ball in Zafeiropoulos’ nets.

Kalamaria, that wanted the win in order to hope to stay in the A Division, chased a goal and lost two good opportunities in the first half to tie. The first was in the 8’, when Vella Junior was in a good position but did not manage to score, and the second in the 13’ when Cleyton caught a good shot but the ball fell onto the players of PAOK and ended in the arms of Fernandes.

In the second half, Kalamaria transformed and showed its intentions early on, which were to receive the three points of a win.

The home team put the pressure on but the result was two goals and turned the situation against it.

The beginning was made in the 68’ when Cleyton, on his own in PAOK’s goal area, with a close shot scored 1-1. A minute later the same player with a strong shot sent the ball in PAOK’s nets, scoring 2-1 for the home team.

Referee: Dabosis (Pieria)

Kalamaria: Zafeiropoulos, Nikolopoulos, Fitanidis, Papadopoulos, Cleyton, Wellington, Spiropoulos, Iliadis, Petkakis, Haxhi, Vella Junior

PAOK: Fernandes, Koutsopoulos, Egomitis, Karipidis, Udeze, Vaggelis, Theodoridis, Megahead, Fucini, Mieciel, Christodoulopoulos.

The Paok website suggests both Cleiton goals for Appollon were on crosses to the centre where the forward was free to strike. So it does not seem that Dani could be blamed on them. In any case, great news that he is getting playing time in the Greek league.

Malmo beat Kalmar to replace them at the top

STOCKHOLM, May 16 (Reuters) - Champions Malmo knocked Kalmar off the top of the Swedish first division with a 1-0 win on Monday that ended their opponents' unbeaten run this season.

Afonso Alves scored the only goal to put the southern club top with 13 points from six games ahead of Helsingborg, who also have 13, while Kalmar have slipped to third on 11.

Last year's runners-up IFK Gothenburg, who face Danish team FC Copenhagen in the final of the first edition of the Royal League later this month, drew 0-0 at home to Helsingborg.

Gothenburg, Sweden's most successful team in European competition, are languishing seventh in the standings.

From Italy on Sunday:

Rocco Placentino played 76 minutes as Cavese lost 1-0 to Igea Virtus. Rocco was named Cavese's best player by datasport.it. Cavese head into the promotion playoff on May 29/June 5 against Juve Stabia. The winner of this series will play the winner of Giugliano - Gela to fight for a promotion place to Serie C1 (Italy's 3rd tier) on June 12/19. It's not looking good for Cavese, as they have only one tie and 6 losses since week 27.

David Masciantonio played the entire match as Monterotondo ended the season with a 4-2 defeat to Cascina Valdera. Monterotondo finish Serie D Girone E in 7th place and will remain in Serie D next year.

Hume and Tranmere go down 2-0 to Hartlepool. Hume goes 90 and picks up a yellow in the 10th minute. Doesn't look like Tranmere are going anywhere

Tranmere scores goals in the 70th and 87th minutes of the second leg to even-up on aggregate. Headed to extra-time.

Chance for a hero to be born...

1st Tranmere goal was scored on a free kick after Hume was fouled in a dangerous position.

In penalties now -- Iain does his part and scores his penalty for Tranmere.
