DeRo played 90 and scored the winner in San Jose's 3-2 win over KC yesterday. Onstad was in goal for the win. No sign of Brillant for the Revs. MLSnet lists him as out with a sprained ankle.

Ummm, if you'll allow, in USL Division 1 play, Justin Thompson played 90 in both games as VB Mariners split a weekend series with Richmond.

Occean misses a golden opportunity, comes back with the assist on the first goal and picks up a yellow in a 2-1 win over Bodö/Glimt in Norway.

Occean did not score last sunday. He had one wonderfull assist and hit the post once, so he was close. He did play a good game and is now rated as the best forward in the norwegian league.

Both Stamatopoulos' Boden and Ademolu's Trelleborg had goalless draws in swedish Superettan action today. Good for keeper Kenny, bad for striker Stephen. Hughes still on the injury list with Öster (a team that actually both scored and won today).

Guest Jeffery S.

Daniel Fernandes started and played 90 for Paok in Greek top flight, as they drew Ionikos away 1-1. The goal was on a erred back pass from a defender that the opposing striker picked up and got by Daniel with. The team is 5th in the league still. I think this is his first Greek league start.

Who will Yallop dream up now as our goalkeeping future? Any more A-Leaguers for the taking?

Hampton & Richmond Borough 0-3 Billericay

Elliott Godfrey played the entire match for HRBFC, and had a shot blocked. This was only the second home loss of the season for Hampton, who require only a single point to guarantee a place in the Ryman Premier League play-offs.

Bashley 0 Banstead Athletic 1

Mika Dronyk came into the match for the Bash in the 61st, and hit the crossbar with a shot at goal. Match report: http://www.geocities.com/bash_net/bashvsbanstead2005.htm

Excellent news Jeffrey. Bodes well for the future (not necessarily the immediate future).

According to ERT, Fernandes was the M.O.M.

All Even in Neapoli

23 Apr 2005 19:18:00

By Stathis Petropoulos

Ionikos has taken a step closer to salvation, since in the match that signalled the beginning of the 27th round in the Greek football championship, it tied against PAOK in Neapoli with a score of 1-1. Although the visitors led in the score, they slowed down after that, and as a result Ionikos was able to impose its pace and chase the draw. This did not come about easily, especially due to Fernades, but it is the end result that counts. PAOK’s goalkeeper was the man of the match, and not just for his great saves, but also because he was replacing the main goalkeeper, Tochouroglou. Even though the team’s coach picked a relatively easy match to give him the chance to practice, the Portuguese goalkeeper rose to the challenge.

Great Start

PAOK’s goal came early on in the 7’ and mainly due to Ionikos’ lukewarm defence. Beqaz saved Foucini’s free kick, but as the ball bounced back, Salpingidis jumped in and scored the goal. Ionikos’ first opportunity to tie the score came in the 11’, but Issa’s free kick was cleared away by Fernandes, who did the same in the 25’, following a long kick by Makor. PAOK tried to up its performance, but kept being hampered by Ionikos’ defence. So, basically, only a few opportunities to score came up.

Target Achieved

Nothing really changed in the second half, apart from a couple of substitutions. Zivkovic replaced tired-looking Makor and Giasemakis substituted Megahead, who was injured. Actually, his injury looked quite serious, especially following his concussion in the match against Olympiacos. However, the home team’s efforts bore fruit in the 69’. Zisopoulos made a tragic error, so Gutman saw his chance and ran for the nets, passing Fernandes and scoring a goal.

Referee: Styliaras

Yellow Cards: Lettieri (4th card), Coimbra, Vaghelis (4th card)

IONIKOS (Vangelis Vlachos): Beqaz, Ofridopoulos, Vourexakis, Issa, Makor (57’ Zivkovic), Lettieri, Tsimblidis (6’ Roka), Coimbra, Gutman (76’ Natsouras), Gavrilopoulos, Ucar.

PAOK (Nikos Karageorgiou): Fernandes, Karypidis, Megahead (63’ Giasemakis), Koutsopoulos, Theodoridis, Zisopoulos (75’ Vaghelis), Andralas, Foucini (80’ Zavantias), Egomitis, Salpingidis, Mieciel.

Was that shot at Yallop really necessary?

Right now, Canada's GK situation is the worst its been in 15 years, but that has little to do with Yallop. Greg Sutton seems to be our best bet at GK at the moment, and yes, he plays in USL div. 1, but she's still the best we currently have. How many other USL keepers has Yallop called in?

That said, the kid Fernandes deserves a shot as much as anybody, and Yallop would be a fool not to call him into at least a camp within the next 12 months.

Jeffrey,, not sure if that would be considered a shot at Sutton as well which he certainly doesn't deserve as he's played great for us in the few games he's started, better then Lars or Onstad.. And as far as I remember he's the only A-league goalie that's played with us in a while...

Jeffrey, you cannot criticise the all-time greatest Cdn manager or any active player on this site. It's evidently turned into a GoBigRed cheerleading site (German ex-coaches and Cdnborn Englismen excepted of course).

Ed: I don't understand how someone can take a shot at Sutton, he has done nothing wrong with us and hasn't played enough that we can criticise him. Oh, and a lot of players have been criticized a lot on this board, a few names: Onstad, Lars, Jazic, Radz, DeRo, Watson, DeGuzman, Peeters, Simpson, and so on......

I also don't understand why Fernandes should have been called up with the men's national team since 1 yr ago he wasn't good enough for the U-20. Now it seems very positive that he has got a start in the Greek D1 and Yallop must stay aware of how he's doing over there. If we have a camp in Europe or some friendly games, I think Yallop should invite him to see what he can do but I don't feel like Yallop has to invite him either.

I guess it is all in perspective. Sutton has been praised for ONE decent performance against a team that couldn't score in a whorehouse. Sutton may well be our answer in the net. I don't know. But I think the door is still open.

I think though that Jeffrey's A-League comments were targetting 'the Mister' as the ever eloquent Alberto calls him. You know, the guy who called up Carlo F*ing Corazzin for our last gasp at qualifying.
